I have a sort-of dilemma. I know the answer, I just have to get over my pettiness lol. It involves the ILs and I had typed it all out, but there are so many little context things it got too long. I'll just get over myself.
We got a quote for windows on our first floor. 35K LOLOLOLOLOLOL
OMG
Anyways we are getting a 2nd quote from a less fancy place. I don't need bougie windows. Our current windows are original to the house and 100 years old. So anything is going to be an upgrade.
Ugh we need new windows too and I am dreading the cost. We had to put a new roof on last year and the cost is bananas. I don't mind the cost of home renovations if it really improves the space. But roofs, windows, siding are the least sexy and most expensive home improvements. Oh and also upgrading septic which we also had to do recently. Not glamorous.

eddy I nearly fell over when we got a quote for all of our windows. Like that could just be large down payment on another house with all new windows lol. We ended up just doing the sliders and I do have to admit that they're a big improvement both in appearance and keeping cold out/heat in.
I started randomly watching The Snow Girl on Netflix last night and I'm obsessed.
I'm working until noon then I'm officially on PTO until after Presidents Day! FINALLY! I have a mani/pedi this afternoon, then we're staying downtown tonight because we have an early flight tomorrow. My H surprised me with tickets to "Come From Away" in Philly tonight. Tomorrow, we fly to LA and spend Wed/Thurs there, then we're taking a cruise down to Mexico and back. Can't freakin' wait!
Oh! And we have reservations at SUR (dinner) and Tom-Tom (drinks) Thursday night (those that are VPR fans will know what these places are).
I'm getting targeted ads all over the place for self-cleaning, automated, smart litter boxes. They all look SO COOL! I don't know if they're cool enough to merit their price tag, but I definitely added one to my mental "come into some fun money via lottery, etc" list. Also, we have one cat, but currently have two litter boxes (I think I heard that was the rule? Number of cats + 1 for boxes?), so having to have two makes the cost extra steep.
We are debating going solar, but we don't really want to put them on our existing roof, we want to add a roof to make our (existing) patio covered. Do we start with the solar company, get the measurements and then build the structure with a contractor?
It feels overwhelming but our electric bill is crazy and only going up.
I've had a very minor bunion for years that's become achy recently. I started wearing a brace to correct it while I WFH. The brace actually feels good. The problem is I have wide feet already and the brace adds just enough bulk to my foot that I can't put my slipper on over it. I have one pair of socks big enough to get over it, but even that's a challenge. Do socks that zip or velcro up exist? I did a quick search and only found ones that zipped up the calf, which isn't my issue. Maybe I just need to buy the biggest socks I can find...
Had a rough start to the day by yelling at my kids while trying to get ready for school. DD2 is *so* slow in the morning and always makes us late. I had to drop both kids off since H was in a meeting and I lost it. I feel terrible.
H has been working like crazy lately. He has all these early meetings, is in meetings all day, and now has to start doing site visits in the evenings. He wakes me up when he gets out of bed, so I'm tired since it is impacting my sleep too. I know it sucks being as busy as he is and it is going to be like this for the foreseeable future. But I'm terrible and I don't have a lot of sympathy because it means I'm picking up all the slack with the kids and around the house. And often when he tries to help he just yells at the kids and makes things worse. I'm frustrated and exhausted and he said it won't let up until Sept which fucking sucks. I'm hoping he's exaggerating, it can't possibly last that long...
eddy that does seem crazy high. We replaced 6 windows and a sliding glass door in 2021 for about 6k total. We did get a quote for double that from a fancy place. I assume you have more windows than us, but ours worked out to about $750 per window and 2k for the slider. I know prices have gone up since then, but unless you live in a glass house I can't imagine they have gone up THAT much.
noodleoo my DS tells me every day to stop using my 'mean voice' (my impatient voice) in the time I'm trying to get him out the door & in the car for school. Kid, get the eff in the car! School starts whether you arrive on time or not!
On the topic of window replacements...we are replacing 8 windows. The windows were delivered on Friday and they were leaned against the garage door. We are also renovating a bathroom at the same time. We're keeping our original toilet, so that is being stored in the garage. The windows were delivered in the morning and by afternoon I had forgotten about them. I decided I was going to take the recycling out to the garage. Our garage is not accessible from the house so I pressed the garage door opener that we keep inside before going outside. I heard a thud but didn't think much of it...until I remembered the windows leaning against the garage door. Yep, the largest, most expensive window, smashed on the toilet in the garage.
The windows on our first floor were new when we bought the house. The windows in our two front (upstairs) bedrooms were replaced to match the downstairs windows after we had a fire, so insurance paid for them. We still have a bathroom window, the back bedroom, and I think the window in the stairs that are original. Anyway, if you have a fire, homeowner's insurance will pay for them, but I do not recommend that.

idk how handy you guys are but we replaced our downstairs windows ourself (windows were also original double hung, 80ish yo) and it was actually super easy. We did it over the summer (this was probably 25 years ago. Maybe more bc I’m pretty sure we did it before we got married. Anyway we did one window each weekend. The difference it made the following winter was astounding. If you have a quote from a contractor, you have accurate measurements and that’s the most important part!

I nearly made my coworker cry and I don’t have one ounce of care. When you get called out for being mean you deserve it. She yelled at another coworker in a degrading tone about something. It was inappropriate and in front of the entire office. I told her she needs to stop calling people out and take them to an office. I also said she needs to put a policy in place to stop confusion. I don’t have time for mean people
I'm having a cardiac ablation today so I am not working. I'm lounging around wishing I could have some coffee. Of course I started spotting/bleeding today which will make things awkward considering they do the ablation through a groin incision. I am having a uterine ablation in a few weeks and am looking forward to my body getting back to "normal."
Do people in your area say I appreciate you instead of thank you? I've started noticing it a lot more and am curious where it started. Hearing it gives me warm, fuzzy feelings and I think it is because thank you seems rote.
We and my SIL/BIL have a lot of overlapping friends from college who live in our area, and they recently moved much closer so they visit pretty frequently. DH is OOT so I was mentally bracing myself to host them, their three kids (all under 5), and their new dog on my own while they're in town this weekend. SIL proposed just coming to our house for Sat afternoon and dinner, and then staying with the friends hosting the Superbowl party they're in town for.
I'm so relieved, I'd make it work because I really do like spending time with them, but I was definitely feeling a little overwhelmed by visitors on top of my own kids and dog after a busy week at work. And I feel like it's a better to be able to introduce the dogs and have a good amount of time to let them get acquainted, but not jump straight to three days together.

My BIL has huge feet size 15 EEEE. I found this brand and they work well for him. They might work for you?
I am ushering Les Miserables tonight! It's one of the best music shows (IMO) and I haven't seen it live in over 20 years, so I am looking forward to it. It's a long show though so I probably won't get home until around 11:30 - so late for a Tuesday night!
Someone posted two puppies they are fostering on Nextdoor today and I am so tempted. They are 20 weeks old so not tiny babies, but apparently are friendly with cats? I still waffle about getting a dog constantly but I would really love to have one... I will have to talk to my H and see if he would be agreeable. We aren't going out of town for the next 3.5 months so it would actually not be a bad time to get one.

UGH. We replaced ours about 10 years ago, and we had a seven-year, interest-free loan through some kind of energy efficiency program. Might be worth investigating!

Definitely get other quotes. We just had 2 windows in H's office/spare bedroom, 1 window in DS room and 3 in our mudroom replaced. I forget the cost, but we got 3 quotes and one was 3x's what we ended up paying.

Now thinking about how much of a house fire we would need in order to get new windows...
That's how much I don't want to pay for new windows.

We have a basement project that is now over a year old that is still not finished. Because we could "just finish it up" from where the professionals left off.
So yeah, I will absolutely be paying someone to do this. :-) We are terrible at weekend projects.
