No; I see no need for them. Maybe if it was more than just me?
Even when it’s just me I like them bc my stuff stays organized & I’m not shifting thrum my pants stack to get to my undies.
it’s not like life changing but I like the organization & less embarrassing TSA inspections bc clothes are contained & my bras arent gonna be rummaged thru.
Depends on the trip. I first bought them when I was going abroad for two weeks and brought a ton of stuff. I watched videos on how to roll clothes in different ways and maximize the cubes.
A weekend away? I may put my underwear and socks in one so they don’t roll around in my weekender bag. A longer family vacation? I’m all for it!
I don't really understand them. I mean you are putting the same stuff into the suitcase, right? A suitcase is not that big can't imagine not being able to find something or know what belongs to me or someone else I'm with.
Now the only thing that would change my mind is if I could fit more stuff in the case. Does that happen when using them?
I was excited to get them, but used them maybe twice before giving up. We always unpack into drawers/closets when we go places so we can stick the suitcases in the closet and out of the way. I just find it much easier to spend 10 minutes putting everything in a drawer when we get to our destination. Maybe if we went to a hotel without some sort of dresser, but I haven’t come across that yet.
When it was just my husband and I we just dug through our suitcases for an entire vacation, so cubes probably would have helped then. Once our first kid was born I started unpacking some of the time. Now that we have 3 kids, I just want all the suitcases unpacked and put away even if it’s just for a couple nights. We then use a suitcase as a hamper.
We also prefer to travel with one carry on per person rather than 1 or 2 large, heavy suitcases since our kids can mostly drag their own bags now. Packing cubes might be more useful if I combined everyone into one bag.
Yes. I packed with them today. We are taking 5 days away and I used one rolling suitcase for myself. I used one small cube for my bathing suit, flip flops, and cover up; another small for my socks, bras, and tanks; one for odds and ends like power cords; and two mediums for my regular clothes which didn’t require cubes, but squished nicely into the 1/2 side of the case without a zip cover/protection. Somehow, packing seems easier when I figure out my cube groups. And I heartily agree that tossing the cubes into draws at my destination is super easy - or even just unzipping/zipping them if I’m dressing out of my case.
I like them so much that I bought a set for my sister. She travels and stresses about packing. As far as I can tell, she has never used them or used them and didn’t like them. That doesn’t bother me but if she doesn’t use them, I really wish she would give them to me!

Many packing cubes have a little bit of compression, so you actually fit more in them than just loose in the suitcase.

Yes. I can fit more for sure.
When I travel just for me, I also like them. I keep undies/socks in one, shirts in another. Pants in a third. It just makes life easier for me.
I always use packing cubes when we travel as a family. It helps us stay more organized. When we went on our cruise, I just pulled the cubes out and put them on shelves. I labeled everything with masking tape, so we knew exactly what was where. Depending on the length of the trip, I'll pack things by type (shirts in one, pants in another, etc.), or, especially for the kids, I pack by outfit. I've found it's much easier to just grab a cube than rifle around in a suitcase, which ALWAYS resulted in nicely folded clothes getting messed up.

I can fit a lot more with packing cubes since they compress the clothes a bit and they don’t explode out when the suitcase is opened.

I love mine, and my H likes mine too! We use them every time we travel. I guess I'm not very efficient at packing, because I could never find anything. With the cubes, I put underwear in one, tops in another, pants and shorts in another, bathing suits in another, dress clothes in another. This way, I can just pull out what I want, instead of emptying my suitcase to find one thing. Highly recommend. I got mine on Amazon.

I've used them for many years. For anything from a few days to a few weeks. They're most beneficial to me on longer trips when my back turns into a disaster zone after a couple days. I'm naturally messy and lazy, and this combats that.
I sometimes label the bags and organize depending on length of trip. So I might have separate bags for socks and undies on longer trips but combine for shorter.
Tj maxx often has sets pretty cheap. I even have small mesh bags now for toiletries, meds, various electronics.
Recently, in the last couple years, I've started out with an empty large cubes where I transfer dirty clothes. If it's a long enough trip to do laundry it's super easy to grab that cube and drop it or find a laundromat.
I have a mix of amazon basics, ebags and some other brands... they are all similar
I like to transfer dirty clothes into one and keep things separate for the way back
We each have a color. Depending on the trip sometimes I sort by type of item, sometimes by day so I might pack the whole family's Friday outfit in one cube or sometimes it might be all bathing suits and all my underwear and socks in one cube. I also have S, M, L cubes so I can pack and keep things flat. Sometimes I shove a lot in and use for compression (socks, pjs, bathing suits, etc)
We travel a lot and dont usually unpack wherever we go either- we keep everything packed. My husband loses everything if he puts it in drawers
I love mine. Cube for workout gear, cube for pjs/relaxing clothes, cube for undies/bras/socks, cube for shirts, cube for pants. It also fits better in my carry on with my shoes (and no dirt from shoes gets on clothes), as I have big feet.
I also keep a cube in my gymbag of a change of clothes, if I shower at the gym.
When I pack for a trip I'll put some things in there to keep them contained-undies, socks, bathing suits, sleepwear. I keep most "day" clothes in the suitcase without the cubes.
These are the ones we’ve used for our family of 4 for 2 trips to Europe and countless domestic trips. We got the multi colored ones so everyone has a color. They are more floppy than structured, but that works well for packing around shoes, tucking into a shape that is a bit narrower than the cube. They fit a lot.

Ok I’m buying some thanks to this thread. I assume I want compression packing cubes?? We are planning a 2 week Europe trip and would like to try to just use carryons.
I was thinking of buying these. Cipway Compression Packing Cubes Set, Ultralight Expandable Travel Packing Organizers for Carry on Luggage (Green 3pcs) a.co/d/8Qzb6sO

This is such an interesting discussion! :-)
I do like my packing cubes, for similar reasons as the others - i can separate out undies and bras from shirts/pants/dresses, etc. I do think I can fit a lot more in a suitcase, and it makes it easier if I need to open it for any reason at the airport/layovers etc. (And if it's gets searched by TSA, it will ideally be slightly easier).
I also leave things in packing cubes at the hotel and put them in the drawers - I feel like that helps to sort and organize. For dirty clothes, I actually flip those inside out and then put them in a packing cube. For me, I like the organization - I get that it might not be for everyone!
I also find that it's helpful to put breakable items amongst the clothes in the cubes to help keep them safe - in case you're traveling with anything like that.
I use them for most of the reasons suggested already. I typically use one for underwear/swimwear if needed, one for workout clothes, and one for other stuff. I just like that it keeps everything separated. I get so annoyed digging in a suitcase.
I also use them for other things like keeping a change of clothes in a backpack or pool bag.
I don't use them. I think they take up valuable space in an already limited space situation like if you're trying not to check luggage. I'm a big fan of ziplock bags to keep things separated when necessary. I usually keep a stash of ziplock bags of all sizes when traveling. They make a 2.5 gallon one that is large enough to separate adult clothing if using it for that.
Bonus is that the ziplock bags are clear. I need to see what's inside a bag to quickly move it along.
I like them to mix and match clothes in suitcases, but keep things separate. This way if one suitcase is lost or delayed, we’ve got some coverage. Also, if we unpack, I just lift and place the cube into a drawer or cabinet.
Yes we *gasp* check bags.
I have the amazon brand ones in various sizes.
We’ve also used them on road trips to keep stuff organized.
I really love using one to pack things I only *might* need on a trip - it’s so nice to have those items out of the way and yet easy to find if I need them.
I consider myself to be a really good packer, we pretty much only ever use carry ons. We went to London and Greece in October (so different weather) for 2 weeks and just used a carry on and personal item.
I’m in the “I don’t get it” camp. I even got a second set thinking they’d work better. I’ve watched videos … I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I feel like separating socks and underwear and such makes them take up MORE space. I always unpack when I arrive so I don’t get the organization aspect. 🤷🏻♀️
I’d like to get on board since there’s so much love lol.
