I wasn't sure how to word this. A few times per year, I look at the cheap jewelry I own and I think - I should really have a few nice pieces of jewelry that I can grab and use for a variety of occasions. I'm probably thinking primarily about necklaces, but am open to suggestions.
What pieces do you go to for work events? Date night? As a wedding guest?
DH gave these to me a couple of years ago and I pretty much wear them every day and for most occasions (my grandmother's name was Rosemary so they have special significance):
I have a pearl necklace that I love, a pair of saphire studs, and an opal pendant necklace. This is my "nice" stuff.
I like colorful, dangly necklaces/earrings that I tend to go for more often than the nicer stuff. Stuff from 10,000 Villages and random fair trade shops near me--slightly unique stuff that has a bit more character than everyday diamond studs.
My clothes are boring/plain-ish, so I'm drawn to more interesting accessories.
My jewelry in rotation: Diamond studs, diamond tennis bracelet Small gold hoops Chunky gold link necklace Chunky gold and platinum link bracelets Gold bangles Cocktail rings - all sorts high end, vintage, costume
Edit: I love the Tiffany twist knot earrings for an everyday
My nicer stuff - diamond stud earrings, nice gold hoop earrings, a Pearl necklace, a nice pendant necklace (the one I wear mostly is diamond and blue lapis - random! - but it’s all about what you like). That’s pretty much what I wear daily or to formal events. When I go out, like with friends or to more informal weddings etc, is where I feel I wear more “fun” but less expensive stuff - statement necklaces or big cocktail rings etc. I get costume jewelry for that because I don’t want to spend a lot on things I rarely wear.
This is the necklace I wear everyday and I absolutely love it. It's simple yet sparkly, so I always feel just a little dressed up everyday. Plus it's affordable.
Necklace w/ a small moonstone pendant in YG bezel with small YG hamsa Moonstone YG bezel stud earrings Engagement ring and wedding band Apple watch w/ tortoise shell link band
This is really not capsule at all, but this is what I tend to wear:
Every day: Small diamond band in index finger. I bought it just for me for no real reason.
Going out: - I have a gold charm bracelet I've been collecting to over the years - Platinum necklace with diamond pendant - I have some Alexander McQueen costume jewelry that makes me feel fancy so I wear that from time to time (bracelet and necklace with pendant) - This gigantic gold skull ring with butterflies wrapping around the head. It's tacky AF but fabulous
That's about it. Earrings generally make my ears itch - even if it's solid gold. So I tend not to wear them. I have a ton of costume jewelry sitting around that I never wear.

I’m turning 40 in 2 weeks and my DH bought me diamond studs. He gave them to me early because my sister was getting married late last year and he thought I might want them for the wedding. I wear them for all formal occasions, dinners, etc. now. But I’ve always wanted studs and knew I would wear them a lot.
For necklace, along the same lines, when DH’s grandmother passed, his parents had several of her diamond rings made into necklaces for MIL, my SILs, and myself. Such a kind gesture and I wear that a lot.
I have a David Yurman bracelet that was a gift for my 30th. I wear that a decent amount.
Prior to having diamonds, I wore a lot of costume jewelry. Olive and Piper has some really cute stuff for a decent price. I also had the Tiffany ball earrings and bracelet that DH gave me a million years ago but they seem to have gone missing.
Julie Vos if you like gold - they have great statement and stud earrings, bracelets, daintier necklaces
Lagos - I wear a pretty big stack of bracelets every day but even one looks really nice. They also make Apple Watch bands - I’ve got one that makes me feel dressier.
Kendra Scott is fun and they have really pretty spring things out
My daily is usually either small Diamond hoops or fun studs (I’m wearing Julie Vos hearts today and I always get compliments). A few Lagos bracelets and I wear one of two smaller necklaces.
I’ve always been an accessory person though - if I forget earrings I always feel off. I sleep and shower in my daily necklace, just easier.

Earrings: I wear diamond studs every day, work, going out, whatever. I have upgraded a few times over the years so they are now probably 1ct each, but totally worth it for the amount I wear them. Otherwise, a few years ago my mom gifted me family earrings that are clusters of pearls and diamonds. I wore them on my wedding day and then recently to my dads funeral. Special occasion only.
Rings: I had a custom eternity band of diamonds and emeralds made for my 40th. I wear that for every day on my ring finger (admittedly my e ring and band don’t always fit). DH had an amethyst cocktail ring made years ago that I love for right hand if I’m going out.

my daily jewelry are studs (choice of diamond, pearl, crystal, birthstone) and my watch either stainless steel Fossil or my tortoiseshell Coach. I might wear a necklace (my ruby/diamond, the zodiac ones for R or myself, my initials necklace JTRL (mix n match) or ring (i have 2 of my mom's birthstone rings (sapphire), my XOXO ring, or either of my basket weave rings (one is mixed metals and the other is rosegold/cz)).

I’ve been eyeing Julie Vos! Is the quality good? The prices seemed really good so I was being a bit cautious…

I think so! I have earrings, a staple necklace and rings and they’ve held up well. The gold color is really pretty, not brassy but a warm gold.
Earrings: My diamond studs never come out. (Ok, they come out to get cleaned.)
-On the rare occasion I wear other earrings I have tiny huggie diamond earrings, KY Blue sapphire earrings, and sterling silver hoops
Bracelets: I don't own any fine jewelry here other than an pearl bracelet that doesn't get worn often. My daily bracelets are stretchy bracelets with real stones in various colors and some other costume bracelets.
Rings: Depends on the day. I have a few I rotate through.
Necklace: None on a daily basis. The "nicest" one I have is a 1ct moissanite on a fine/dainty 14K white gold chain. The others are costume jewelry. Since it's back in style I wear the sterling silver herringbone necklace I bought in HIGH SCHOOL (Ya'll, I'm not 29 or even 29 again.). I think I have one other sterling necklace.

I’ve worn the same jewelry almost everyday for 17 years.
Diamond studs, and this necklace, robertocoin.com/en-us/product/circle-pendant-with-diamonds/ The circle is maybe the size of a dime. And my engagement/ wedding ring which is just a round solitaire in a very thin diamond band/ thin diamond band
I wear the same things every day. I have so many items i never wear anymore, or only break out for special occasions. My daily things are:
Fake diamond studs that my mom got me from QVC years ago from their diamonique line. I get so many compliments on them. I absolutely love them and would never be able to afford real diamond studs in this size, so I just wear these.
Engagement ring
A stack of 3 rings on my right middle finger: Bottom one is the Cartier love band in rose gold Middle one is a thin rope band in yellow gold from Blue Nile Top one is a chain link diamond band in white gold from Blue Nile
Necklace is a thin 16” rose gold chain with a diamond star pendant from Blue Nile (I love that site in case you couldn’t tell!)
On my wrist is my Apple Watch with a band from Lagos, and then a stack of 4 bracelets from Lagos.
I have what I would consider 2 capsules with a few piece that overlap. I don't own much in the way of costume jewelry; just a few vintage pieces that were from my aunt who liked sparkly things and had yearly formal occasions through her DH's navy career.
Most of my stuff that's work or casual appropriate; I have some classic pieces in yellow gold and some in silver that get worn pretty much daily but not all at once.
I have 3 chains in yellow gold (15", 18" and 22") that go with a pave diamond heart, a south sea pearl, a gold heart, a locket or can be worn alone or in combination. My engagement ring is set in gold and I have a narrow band I wear with it or a wider band to wear alone. Have a couple gold link bracelets, CZ studs in gold, gold croissant hoops, larger good hoops, aquamarine and diamond studs.
In silver, I have a couple of necklaces (one Lagos and one Yurman) that can be worn alone or together and several bracelets. I have a Yurman ring, a bunch of Pandora stacking rings and a white gold right-hand diamond my parents gave me. I have a gold vermeil and silver link necklace, a platinum diamond band and dainty diamond cluster studs in platinum.
The only pieces I tend to save for "dress up" are my pearls, a mobe pendant I sometimes wear with them and one of my 2 vintage watches. One white gold with a few small diamonds and the other a MCM gold bracelet.
I have a pair of white gold hoops that I wear in my first hole and diamond studs in my second. I wear them pretty much every day along with my silver chain necklace with a cross.
I also own my grandmothers pearl necklace and pearl studs.
I’m looking to add some gold items but haven’t done so yet.
And I also purchased a Black Onyx ring that I wear on my right hand which I purchased as a gift to myself to celebrate my divorce.
Hot tip: diamond studs are frequently available from vintage jewelry stores at good prices. Nice not to be participating in the current diamond trade too. Mine are circa 1990s (lol).
Alternative idea - I've been a subscriber to RocksBox for years and years. It's such a great way to mix in new jewelry without actually buying new pieces. I always do end up buying a few of the pieces over the course of each year because I fall in love with them, but otherwise I've stopped buying random jewelry altogether.
This is the necklace I wear everyday and I absolutely love it. It's simple yet sparkly, so I always feel just a little dressed up everyday. Plus it's affordable.
