Hey, I swear I’m a semi functioning adult and can make most… ok some decisions rationally. When I can’t, I come here. I mentioned in an earlier post DS had a college visit with the coach of the school he’d really like to attend and swim for. Some mentioned he should send a thank you note. A couple of questions….
1. he spent 2 full days with the team, one night in the dorms, another at the off campus house, so should the thank you be addressed to the coach or to the team and coach or two separate thank your (that seems weird)
2. It should be an actual thank you card and not an email, right?
3. What should it say? DS would very much like to be on this team and he’s being considered but is not a shoe in ….
Thank you for any help. My mom was my go to etiquette lady, without her I’m sometimes lost.

I don't think there's anything wrong with sending just one thank you note, addressed to the coach and the team.
If you can figure out how to mail a card to the swimming coach, I think that's a nice touch. If you can't, though (it might be tough to find the mailing address/office info), then an email is totally fine. I admit that I am old-fashioned, though, so an email really is probably fine.
General outline for it: - Thank you so much for hosting me this past weekend. - It was great to learn more about your team. - Something in particular he really likes about them specifically - naming anybody who went out of their way to be kind to him - closing with that he'd love the opportunity to join the team - thanking them again
I would email the student hosts and send a hard copy to the coach (though truly, an email is also ok here).
He can keep it short and sweet. Thank you so much for your hospitality, I really enjoyed X and I'm looking forward to Y. To coach, please keep posted on next steps, I'm very excited to be considered for a roster spot.
I think one is fine and would do an email to make sure it is delivered promptly. I feel like mail at my office sometimes sits forever in people’s boxes and they don’t pick it up regularly because it’s mostly junk.
