Have we discussed this? I can’t find it anywhere. My son is on 20mg and no one has it. We’ve been piecing together 10mg capsules for a few months and now no one has those either. I was able to find some of the brand name yesterday but then found out our insurance doesn’t cover the brand name so it was going to be $300 for the month’s worth. I’m not sure what we’re going to do!
I have been hoarding meds for years so we're ok piecing together for a couple months, though much of DS's "supply" is expired. Our doctor was able to find his rx at the clinic pharmacy and it was covered by insurance, which bought us another month.
It really sucks and I don't get the sense that there is an end in sight.
DS and I are both on Adderall XR, and so far it hasn't been too bad. We have had to go to other local pharmacies maybe 3 times in the past year but it was filled on time. We are on lower doses (10 and 15) of the generic so maybe that's why we haven't encountered too much of an issue.
Yeah we’ve had issues with concerta for my daughter. I had to call around to a bunch of pharmacies. Luckily I can get a 90 day supply so I don’t have to deal with it for another few months. But I’ll be stressing out again then too.
For the brand name cost - did you check the company website? A lot of pharmaceutical companies having savings cards. I thought I might have to get brand name since I was able to find a pharmacy with some of that in stock and concerta had savings card. It still was more expensive than the generic but less than it would have been otherwise.
I’m continuously frustrated that this isn’t making bigger headlines and there’s no end in sight. And it’s ridiculous what hoops we have to jump through. In this day and age I should not have to call around to a bunch of pharmacies to find out stock. There should be an easy electronic way to find this out.
I take 15mg XR and have not had any issues yet. I wonder if it’s due to my dosage? My doctor mentioned that 15mg isn’t a standard dose…people usually do 10 or 20. I also take the generic version. I have noticed that I seem to have a different generic each month, there’s no consistency in the manufacturer, but knock on wood…no issues yet.

My psych just switched me to Vyvanse because of the shortage. I'm only a few days in, but so far so good. I think it can be $$$ because there is no generic, but it is still reasonable on my insurance thank god.
My son is on Focalin and we had to wait two weeks but it eventually came back into stock last month. We just need to make it to the end of the school year.
Yes, it completely stresses me out! Both DS and DH take Adderall. Someone is always about to run out. We get an RX filled and it feels like only days before the hunt starts again. We were going out of town over Feb vacation and even had CVS check stock in the cities we were driving through. By some miracle, another pharmacy in a nearby hospital happened to have it.
Even once we find it in stock - the rush to send a request through the portal, hoping someone sees it quickly & gets over to the pharmacy... just hoping another RX doesn't come in to use the stock first.
We're 'lucky' in that DS takes a full 10mg tablet in the morning and a half 10mg tablet in the afternoon. On non-school days, we don't bother with the afternoon dose (in the hopes to get more calories in him). So each weekend we gain a pill from skipping two afternoon doses. School vacation week will give us a little more wiggle room this month. Last month we were down to the last pill and had to make decisions about which day was more important to be able to focus and deciding which day DS would need to wing it.
It's tough because DS has always struggled with behavior in school and this is the first year we haven't had any negative feedback from his teacher! I'm so thrilled that he's having a more successful year, but I worry about not finding his meds. He had one day without meds at school (DH and I normally remind DS to take his meds, but we all failed that morning) and it did not go smoothly. The teacher did reach out that day. I worry if we can't fill his RX it might set back his progress & he doesn't need any more hits to his self esteem.

Can you use Express Scripts? I definitely had issues getting Adderall filled at local pharmacies but Express Scripts was always able to fill it no problem.

Ds and I are on it —-or should I say were on it. We can’t refill with any regularity and for some reason my pharmacist at walgreens is a complete ahole and says that bc my doctor is based outside of my county they won’t refill mine.
Life has been verrrrry difficult around here lately. My therapist is trying to help me find a doctor locally but few take my insurance and those that do aren’t accepting new patients.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

DS is on Vyvanse and no issues. Also it is 350$ a month so.....
For us it doesn't matter what the cost is because we always have beginning of year high bills until we hit our deductible. So whether the high bill is Vyvanse or whatever other medical expense is immaterial.
I read that there should be some easing in by mid-April.
The whole thing is one messy debacle & I believe there’s a bill in the House to hopefully improve supply issues of controlled substances like Adderall.
I totally cried when I got in my car after finally have a filled prescription in my hands for my son.

DH takes this too - there is a random small pharmacy near us that has it cheaper than anywhere else. Its still $30 something a month but worth the drive for the savings.
I take a high dose of Ritalin and this last refill took a while for the pharmacy to have enough in stock. I'm nervous it's going to be even harder on the next refill.

I asked my neurologist today to prescribe me Adderall. They told me about the national shortages, and I had no idea. I’m so sorry to everyone that is having trouble filling their medication. It should never be like this!
Strangely we have not had any issues. I take it and so does my son. Our local Walgreens has it every month the day they send it over. I’m not going to patronize Walgreens any longer though, so need to find a new pharmacy.

Express Scripts can be hit or miss.
I have steered clear of the Adderall discussions on this board because I'm an outpatient psychiatric nurse and am now spending hours of my day dealing with it at work. It is a nightmare.
The only good thing is that I have some knowledge of what pharmacies have Adderall in stock so I have been able to get it for my kid.

I had no issues with getting mine filled with express scripts until this month. They canceled my order and said they have no idea when it'll be back in stock 🤯
For those on Vyvanse, the manufacturer offers a coupon/savings card that reduces the cost significantly. It’s not covered by our insurance and I was only paying like $30-50/month with the coupon.

We do use Express Scripts. Our insurance covers generic but no brand name which pisses me off to no end. I have been able to find brand name pills but no generic. Why should I have to pay $300 just because there are no generics available for me to pay $30 for??? I have been on the phone 4 times with Express Scripts in the last 2 days. There’s a possibility they *might* be able to fill his script so I messaged his pedi this evening and we’ll see what happens.
Not Adderall related, but doesn't anyone know if you can use the Concerta savings card if you have insurance but insurance won't cover it? My insurance just stopped covering this for my son, and it works so well for him. Cash price is over $400/month with no insurance though and that's not sustainable.
Dealing with shortages and insurance for meds is just so frustrating.

If you go to Concerta’s website they have specific info on the savings card. I was looking into it before and you can use with insurance. It takes off a certain amount for your out of pocket costs. So how much you pay, depends on what your out of pocket cost would be. I have a high deductible HSA plan and haven’t met deductible yet so my out of pocket is high and while the savings card would help, the meds would still end up being pretty pricey for me.

see lucybrown's post
I did see her post, but Concerta is made by a different manufacturer (I think?) so I wasn't sure. Their website isn't super clear, just says you need insurance. I'm just going to have the pharmacy run it and see.
