I'm only 1 episode (of 3) in and I really want to hear what others have to say about it. It would be easily bingeable in one sitting so I hope somebody does that to kick off the conversation.
I feel like we will be no closer to any truth at the end of this thing, and there's already been one clear crackpot given a platform thus far. I suspect there will be more to come.
i will definitely watch. If anyone is interested there is a good documentary about the sinking of the Estonia, a fairy boat that sank in the Baltic.
Ohh, where is this?! Netflix?
I only heard about this disaster in the past few years and am so, so horrified by it for a variety of reasons (the top one being I take ferries like this).

I have such a fear of RORO ferries after reading about the Estonia. Link to the documentary?
Well that was a fun Wednesday night binge (well, I’m 20 mins from done). This was not what I was expecting I guess. I was wanting/hoping for an actual documentary that maybe answered some questions. While I followed this a lot while it was happening (didn’t we all), I thought it was solved. I had no idea all these theories are still out there.
Are the algorithms going to start showing me Q stuff now? 😬😬

I need to think... I think it is on Prime. It is really crazy the amount of coverup, and I do think there was a cover up, which is so fucking stupid because learning what went wrong is how you avoid a repeat disaster.

I think the disaster was entirely due to crew mismanagement in the weather conditions. I do think they tried to cover up the contents of the ship's cargo after the fact though... Covering the wreck with gravel and the treaty that was signed regarding not disturbing the wreck was very weird.

I'll definitely be checking out the documentary.
That was incredibly strange. And they tried to say that the salvage crew would have been upset to bring bodies up, but in fact, they said that it was more upsetting NOT being allowed to bring them up. The entire situation is so fucked up.

I fly Malaysian air and take roro ferries frequently. I'm not a nervous traveler generally, but this isn't going to terrify me, is it? I need that ferry!

I would say no. I don’t recall anyone putting anything on Malaysian air, other than general not providing enough information.
Heavy on the Russia theory. And something about military exercises in the area and I think the implication was that someone shot it down and the Americans helped cover it up. And one guy found most of the debris, and he has russia ties. But also, they ignored all the evidence that it exploded over the spot it dropped from radar. Whew, it was a lot.

lol. Like I said I'm not nervous. I cannot even tell you how many taxis don't even have seatbelts and drive like they're escaping a warzone.
If some sort of exercise takes me out randomly, well, it's been nice knowing you all.

I hadn't heard of or at least didn't remember this disaster, so it took me a while to realize "fairy" was a typo, and I couldn't figure out how there could be documentary about a magic boat 😂
(please take this as intended, sharing my silly thought, and not as picking on you)
FYI, for people looking for the Estonia Ferry thing, it’s discovery+. Which you can get through prime, but on a free trial then pay when you forget to cancel.

My Discovery+ only has season 2 of the documentary. Maybe it's because I'm in Canada. ☹️
I’m finishing off episode 2. It’s pretty easy binge. But I must say, I definitely don’t but this hijacking theory. Why would they (Russians) be able to do this sophisticated hijacking. And then 4 months later just shoot a plane down (the conspiracy is Russia was involved bc of the other MH plane that was shot down a few months later.)

I feel like the aviation journalist who's featured so prominently has a trust fund and he wanted to feel important so here we are with this show.
One more episode to go and I'm expecting it to be even more unhinged and centered on the "adventurer" featured at the very end of ep 2!

I am watching this right now. The aviation journalist is annoying me with his ridiculous conspiracies and the guy that randomly asked someone ‘where should I look for debris’ is also annoying me.
ETA: what was the point if this doc? So people can get their 15 more minutes and spew their conspiracies? Those poor families.

OMG, I just caught that. lol Yes, it was a Tinkerbell docu style movie, it is fabulous. LOL
In terms of the point, I think it could be that the families do not want this to be forgotten, for their loved ones to be forgotten.
Usually when there is a hijacking, someone, some group, claims responsibility otherwise what is the fucking point?? The whole thing is really crazy and my heart breaks for the people on the plane and their families who have no closure.
And, a side rant, the press being in the faces of those family members while they leave the hotel is shameful and disgusting. Not to mention that some of the press were able to get the flight manifest well before all the families had been notified. just horrific.

When Jeff Wise first wrote his piece years ago (before debris was found), I admit it sounded plausible. But more plausible than it does now, 9 years later with debris found in that period. Now, it’s not plausible at all to me. Neither is the intercept theory from the French reporter and Florida lady. It was a weird series, honestly.
In the end, I still think Occam’s razor applies - it was a murder-suicide by the captain.
The part that still confounds me is why more debris hasn’t shown up. The first pieces showed up within a couple of years but then nothing since. And I had forgotten Blaine was responsible for finding most of the debris so far.
Resurfacing this - I am not a conspiracy theorist at all, ever, but I think it is plausible that the US may have shot it down (possibly unintentionally unintentionally) or been involved at some level. They said they were doing heavy exercises in the area. If so, could have ships picked up most of the debris? I think it’s far fetched that the Indiana Jones guy found so much so quickly and that none of it had serial numbers. Why would the pilot prolong the suicide instead of just crashing? And why would he turn the Inotron tracker back on after turning it off? I know this is probably crazy.

This I understand. They could have done a whole doc about the shit the Malaysia government put them through. The two journalist is what annoyed me with their conspiracies. Like someone said above the simplest explanation is probably what happened.
I don’t believe the US or any country government would shoot down a passenger plane, unintentionally or not. Naive, perhaps. 🤷🏻♀️

I watched over the weekend and have been struggling to put my thoughts into writing. The bolded are two of the biggest things that don't add up to me.
Other thoughts in no particular order...
Every person who ever flies commercial should be angry that it's been NINE YEARS and we don't have a definitive explanation for what happened to MH370
The series focused on conspiracy theories because after nine years that's really all we have. All of the theories presented have some degree of plausibility. Like Velar Fricative said, the hijacking theory was fascinating, but it's lost plausibility over time. If someone stole the plane and landed it in central Asia, they would have claimed credit or done something using the plane by now.
It angers me that the pilot has been villainized for this. I admit it's the most likely of the available theories, but that doesn't make it the true. Suicide is usually carried out in a manner that ensures a quick death. Flying for six hours into the middle of nowhere just doesn't add up.
I thought I remembered a theory that the pilot flew to a remote area, parachuted out of the plane to meet a boat and run away to start a new life with a lover. I was waiting for that one to get some screen time.

I do not remember this theory at all from the time. I’m not sure if that’s why it struck me during this series. But, I guess it did make some sense. And given everything, I think it actually makes slightly more sense that the others, which have large logic gaps. I guess they all do (like, I actually would want to think that we would admit a huge fucking oops here, not cover up, but I’m an idealistic government person).
