My son was angling for a sick day from school today. He didn't get it. When I picked him up from school yesterday he wasn't coughing but said his throat hurt from so much coughing! And his stomach might be starting to feel sick. Did he want to skip his roller skating lesson last night? No, he did not. Did he eat a hot dog and fries there? Yes he did. This morning he was awake for a while before I went to tell him to get up, but didn't cough until I went in his room. I ignored it. After breakfast he said " should I get dressed?" LOL Yes you're going to school. Various classmates have been coming in late and leaving early. He wants in on that and he knew I was off today. Nice try but you're fine and I need a day of peace.
Left the dog out of the crate and have been out longer than usual and I see on the camera that he's just sleeping...in his crate!
My kid is "auditioning" for the school talent show today. I don't think they actually cut anyone, but this required a last minute song purchase and learning how to edit the song down to under 2 minutes.
My DD was asked to play on her school's softball team, despite never playing before. She, of course, is flattered and wants to play.
Practices are 2x/week, and one of those days conflicts with another weekly activity that she does.
Oh and also she brought home information last night from a friend about re-starting horseback riding lessons.
I want her to be able to try new things, but this is all too much. She was mad when I balked at the idea of adding softball though. We only have until tomorrow to decide, so I guess we'll be having a family meeting tonight.
I am so peopled out right now. Last weekend was interaction-heavy, work has been more of the same this week (OMG so.many.people in the office all of a sudden!), and here I sit in a conference room with ten other people all day. I thought I had a no-meetings WFH day tomorrow, but I just got an invite for a Teams meeting, lol sob. Suuuper looking forward to hunkering down at home this weekend while the weather is crappy. I'm going to make soup, bake bread, and let the kids spend as much time on screens as they want.
DD is in the Drama Crew for her MS musical. They perform tonight. Originally, when she joined, they were scheduled for a single showing at 7:30, with a cast and crew call time of 6pm. Cool.
In the last month, they added a 5:30 show, so now the call time is 4:30.
She gets off the bus from school at about 3:45. We'll need to leave the house at 4:15 to get her back to the high school, where she'll be until at least 8:30-9.
That's a long day! I'll grab her some food on the way, and will send a snack with her, but I wish I'd had the forethought to connect with the drama teacher and/or other parents to organize a collection for pizza money so they could eat between shows.
I am stuck in this project from hell for work. We are the middle men between our client and a govt agency. Govt agency is requesting information, they are emailing daily, calling daily. The client needs to give us that information. We've had SO MANY MEETINGS in the last 2 weeks, they will not/cannot provide us this information.
So my boss and I are getting yelled at from the client who wants to know why it's not moving forward and getting yelled at by the government for not having the information. I'm SO TIRED of this client, my God.
I was just on a meeting where regional cultural differences were very apparent. My team is working on an implementation with a vendor, and our new implementation person is very folksy and chatty - I was not surprised when she said she was born and raised in Iowa. Every time she says something that is very midwestern, my two east coast coworkers are basically stone faced and then I have to jump in and respond so it's not awkward. It was making me laugh.
Today is a super busy day for me. I don't have any meetings again until 2 but then I'm basically on Zoom almost straight until 8pm (I am attending a class tonight). Not my favorite kind of day, even though it will go very quickly I am sure.
TBH, "doggo" should not be a word. It's awkward to say. Doesn't matter if the audience is human or otherwise.
I’m totally over thinking this, but I guess I tend to think of doggo as a nickname for your dog. But, in the context of the SM post, it was being used as an adjective to modify friend, which is weird.
Clearly I have used doggo. When talking to the dog or within her earshot. As “the doggo”. But we also use “the Zoe” and “the Sandy,” so it feels like a nickname.
But hubby gives me icky feelings. So I’m somewhat hypocritical 😂
jinkies, with my son either there are no activities or they are all happening at once. He tried out for his middle school play (it will be his first time!). They rehears once or twice a week for a couple of months, which surprised me. he does a short marathon thing at school that's twice a week and he'll miss one day because of the play rehearsal. The chess club is starting back up but it's also on the same day as play rehearsal so he can't do it. There are 4 other days in the week besides Monday but everything is on that day!

I've always interpreted "doggo" as a variation of "doggie". The difference to me is that doggie isn't awkward to say. It rolls off the tongue and feels affectionate.
I have all sorts of crazy nicknames for my dogs. But they are never "doggo(s)".

What do you want to bet this is #regional having to do with accents and vowels. 😂 doggy/doggo are about the same to me. Doggo being the more modern diminutive. Does ML have a professional linguist available to join this discussion.
My local paper is not great but I digitally subscribe so I can get, you know, local news.
Why do they send me sports announcements multiple times a day in the “breaking news” newsletter. Nothing else in the newsletter just that some man is doing something sports related. It’s not even news like we are going to the playoffs, it’s headlines like “The Stadium Authority will soon build a $70 million Hagerstown ballpark. First, it must buy a car wash.”. Why isn’t that in some separate sports newsletter?
Meanwhile, they had a whole neighborhood blocked off out in the county because some armed man was on the lam (apparently shooting at the police, which you’d think they care about) and the “breaking news” email didn’t go out until hours after after they lost him and he escaped into some other part of the county. An active manhunt would have been actually helpful, timely information to have! At the very least it would have really explained why that area looked like a ghost town when I drove through it on my way to the store.

Doggy is fine. Walkies and doggo are in the same class as pandy for pandemic. Stop it.

I am also annoyed at our middle school musical. When dd tried out, we were told rehearsals would be Tues. and Thurs. after school until 4:30, which worked for our schedule. But after she got a role that is not really a lead but also not just in the chorus, we found out that since the musical teacher is seriously pregnant, someone else was taking over for her, and her schedule doesn't allow for after school rehearsals, so they are now going to be BEFORE school, and they are mostly Tues. and Thurs., but also sometimes Wed. and Fri. depending on the character, and sometimes dd's character needs to be there Tues, Wed., Thurs, and Fri. Oh, and the time she has to be there is 7:30 AM, which happens to be the SAME TIME ds has to be at school on Tues., Thurs, and Fri, at his school on the other side of town for band. So that's fun. It's not like they knew the musical teacher was pregnant for the last 8 months or anything (not knocking her for being pregnant or for them for finding a replacement for her, just wish we had gotten the schedule you know, more than a week before it changed). Oh, and I got a neighbor to take ds to band this week, and was all set to take him next week too, but then the days dd needed to be at rehearsal already changed and I feel bad already being a pain changing the dates on the neighbor!
My other random is that I'm annoyed that some places having changed their covid 'call from the parking lot to check in' protocols even though they don't have any other covid precautions in place anymore. I had to take my dog to the vet for vaccines today. Their call from the parking lot to check in has never worked well because they only have 1 phone line, it's always busy when you try to call, so you wait in your car for a long time to even tell them you are there, then they send someone out to take your info, then you wait again till a room is available, then you bring your dog in, but it's not like anyone is wearing masks anymore in their office, then they send you back to your car and send someone out to take your payment (like, why can't I just pay while I'm inside?). I get that maybe having a bunch of animals together in one waiting room isn't ideal so staying in your car until the room is ready makes some sort of sense, but they need a better system after 3 years.

We work with an organization that is notorious for waiting until a client is sitting in their office to request documents from us. Mind you, those clients set up appointments with plenty of advance notice to obtain said documents.
It's infuriating because the people at the org get pissy when we can't get the info over right away.

Same. I went into the office yesterday and it is usually pretty dead. They scheduled a big meeting and had free food, so *everyone* came in. It was awful! I didn't realize how much I've gotten used to working in quiet at home. So many people talking, stopping by to say hi, my cube neighbor took a Teams meeting on speakerphone (WFT!?!) and then she had people talking to her all day. I couldn't focus and I was completely exhausted and drained by the time I got home. I'm definitely more productive WFH (even subtracting the time I spend on here LOL).
Saying things like "walkies with my best doggo friend" is not how a grown woman should talk, I'm sorry.
. Tangentially related, there is a restaurant here that advertises “sammies of the week”. I refuse to eat there until they start using the word sandwiches.

DS1 uses this weird fake baby talk sometimes (he's 9 so far too old for it) and I refuse to answer him until he speaks properly. IE: calling the computer the "pewter"
Funny, all the other diminutives mentioned (pandy, sammie, hubby, etc) but the shit out of me. But I don’t bay an eye at doggo. 🤷♀️
When I go get a pedicure, my H refers to my pedi and it’s like nails on a chalkboard. And my MiL refused to use my name, only the ie nickname. Also nails. I’m guessing it’s the ie/y thing that is my problem with them.

I think have been cut off by a friend that I've had for 20 years with no explanation. I'm sad. She unfriended me on FB and isn't replying to any of my attempts to contact her. We had some turbulent times about 2 years ago, but since then things seemed to be really good. Our last real communication was late December. I texted her last month to say hi and that it had been too long since we talked and asked her how she was and some other specific questions. She just replied with "All is well here." I have tried to reach out since and nothing.
Ordered class ring and graduation announcements for my tiny baby boy this week. Not cool.

Last night we had DD's parent/teacher meetings with first her regular teacher and then the special ed teacher who has been working with her 5 days a week since her reading disability was diagnosed. Even though her IEP has only been in place for a few weeks, we were so encouraged by the reports we got from both teachers. Her regular teacher reports that she's not shutting down and looking sad when she isn't sure how to work through an assignment anymore and instead is using tools she has to work through it or asks for help. The sped teacher is SO nice and told us how enthusiastic DD has been in their sessions. Her graphs showed an uptick in her reading fluency which was exciting. She's still well below grade level but we left there feeling so encouraged.
