I believe the hotel I stayed in the last time I was in NYC closed so I'm back to having NO idea where to stay. We'll be there for the KISS show at MSG in December
You have many, many options within walking distance of MSG. Pre-pandemic, my H booked the Holiday Inn Express on W 36th street. I was a little surprised that he booked a HI but it was great - recently bought/upgraded and checked all the boxes for a one-night stay to see a concert.
But seriously, you can easily walk to a bunch of hotels near MSG.
Agree with others that you will have no trouble finding a convenient hotel. But FWIW, my husband is at MSG for work all the time and his go-to choice is the Renaissance right next to it. I've stayed there once or twice too. It's nice and the convenience cannot be beat.

The Renaissance Midtown is my favorite hotel in NY too for work trips.
(Side note, it’s not “right” next to it — which is a good thing. The block it’s on is pretty quiet, but it’s very close.)
The Eventi mentioned above is also a favorite of my coworkers though I haven’t personally stayed there either.

It isn’t right next door, but within walking distance about 15 min and I love the Bryant Park Hotel. Plus i think the area around Bryant Park is better than Madison Square.

Pretty sure that’s where I stayed last time I went to MSG. And I love Renaissances. The one at Time Square is one of my favorite hotels, and started my Renaissance love (the conference was at the Marquis, but I couldn’t get in there).
