The Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale is on and tomorrow they're featuring the Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer and Stay-in-Place Foundations.
I am in need of some foundation and have points to blow. Are either or both of these worth trying? Or do you have some other suggestion? Thanks in advance.
I have pretty decent skin for my age but do have a little wrinkling and some reddishness on either side of my nose. I'm not overly dry or oily but my skin does tend to be a little sensitive given the retinol and glycolic acid routine I use. I am pale to fair with a neutral skintone. In most lines I am the second lightest color. I prefer a medium or buildable coverage. Lately I've been using Urban Decay Moisture Maniac which is a good winter option, but it can slide off in the heat.
I haven’t tried either of those but I love makeup and have tried a lot of foundations. HG is Armani luminous silk for years now. But I’m always trying new foundations. Nars - all of them are always favorites for me. My current favorite and one of the best I’ve ever tried is Haus (lady Gaga’s makeup line). My mom who is also a skincare/makeup fanatic and has no issue telling me exactly how she sees things about my skin has complemented my foundation multiple times recently and always on those days it’s Haus.

EL double wear is full coverage and very mattifying. I used to wear it as a teen/young adult and liked it because I was very oily. It’s too heavy and mattifying for me at this point.
I used to wear EL double wear light and loved it. But they reformulated it and then discontinued it for the sheer. I looked into reviews and they weren’t great. So I haven’t tried it out.
Can you try some samples first?
I am currently using Dior backstage but I’m not sure ulta Carries it. I find it to be light yet good coverage, Matte but not overly so. My only complaint is that it turns a little too yellow/orangey on me and isn’t a perfect color match. But it’s close enough.
I have literally tried tons and tons of foundation samples over the last several years. I used to wear Revlon colorstay and like I said EL double wear light but both were reformulated and then the one discontinued. So I went to Sephora and department stores and got lots and lots of samples. I haven’t found anything that gives me good coverage without being cakey and doesn’t just slide off during the day.
I love, love, love the IT Cosmestics CC Cream (esp the illuminating version).
I love the formula, but it pulls way too yellow on my skin which is a bummer. Estee Lauder Futurist is a similar formula with a much better color match for me.

I wouldn’t bother with EL. Way more exciting products and formulas.
My favorites are Armani and Charlotte Tilbury (I think it’s light wonder?). I was also surprised how much I liked Lancôme Idole Teint. Lancôme person was in Ulta a few years ago and put it on me. I would have bought it on the spot if I hadn’t had a full Armani.

Sonia Valencia (over 40 makeup artist/reviewer) just did an IG post on the EL foundation and she haaaates it. I prefer tinted moisturizer to foundation, I like Bobbie Brown and Laura Mercier.

I’ve been using NARS Light Reflecting and Armani Luminous Silk for the last year. They are very similar and are a medium coverage, but can be built up. I’m really liking both of them.
I use the Merit Beauty Complexion Stick on days where I don’t want a full face of foundation. It’s nice to cover dark spots and redness and doesn’t dry out on my skin.
I use the EL Double Wear foundation and am 50 years old with dry skin. Things I love about it - it has a beautiful finish and it DOES NOT BUDGE. I wore it for 12 hours at a conference with a mask on the entire time and there was very little transfer to my mask. Things I don't love about it - it is a bit too matte for me and seems to show my skin texture around my mouth. For daily use I use a tinted moisturizer, but I love to wear this foundation when I really need to look polished and need my makeup to last. I heavily hydrate before applying it and use a cream blush and bronzer to keep my skin looking less dry.
