One single asshole, Tuberville, is holding up promotions (this is unheard of) b/c the military policy post roe falling was to clarify that women seeking reprodtive care out of state would get excused medical leave. They still do not provide or fund abortions in most cases.

“Almost 1 in 5 of our troops are women, and they don’t get a chance to choose where they're stationed, so almost 80,000 of our women are stationed in places where they don’t have access to non-covered reproductive health care,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said at a Senate hearing Tuesday.

When we were first stationed in Japan, the first thing I looked up was their laws on abortion. I found it was decriminalized and made plans should I have had the need to go elsewhere. This was awhile ago, so it was before women on web pills by mail. I still look it up whenever I move.

I was very open of my views, so if anyone would have had a need, they would have known to come to me. We regularly had "coming out" dinners where people would confess they were :gasp: feminists, pro choice, not religious, etc. I have driven more than a few to appointments of the details they chose not to share.

It should not have to be that way.

Yep, the military (or at least the Army) is having some serious recruiting and retention issues, and I have to imagine this plays a role.

My H is in recruiting right now. It’s….not bc we are woke GOP.

Low unemployment, lack of eligible people to serve, spouse underemployment and unemployment, lack of choice in where to live if you have family members who are LGBTQ, etc etc.

The Army also loses recruits to other services bc of dumb policies and just taking longer to process people.

Add that to no one talking about service at a National level, and that Americans are generally disconnected from people who serve. People aren’t interested and can find other jobs.
