Tangent: I was checking out someone on FB who has everyone public, and there were things that made it clear he leaned MAGA-lite. And then, a comment about us truly living in a banana republic. This is that head exploding logic. Because we have a state governor saying he will refused to extradite, which is… umm…. Fuck.

I thought about this too but they can slap him with resisting arrest? He’s a big baby and is afraid of all of this despite what he says on truth.

So, what's to stop him from getting on his jet and flying to a country without extradition to the U.S.? I mean, I know that wouldn't be legal, but it's not like we'd actually force the jet to stop. And presumably he will fly to NY on Tuesday so we wouldn't actually know until the jet took a turn in a different direction after takeoff.

I guess this applies to anyone with a private jet, really.

I’ve actually been wondering if the secret service could/would step in then. I know they usually aren’t allowed to interfere with the actions of their protectee in that manner, but would they be able to in that scenario? Are there laws about removing secret service from the country without prior approval, etc?

Honestly? If he wants to fly to some other country and try to live out his days there, I'm ok with that. Keeps him out of here and he can't run for president from Russia.

I don't think he will. He'll see that as being something a "loser" would do. He's gotten out of every bit of legal trouble he's ever had pretty lightly AND being indicted and "fighting the Ds who are going after him corruptly" gives him another chance to raise money/fleece his supporters even more. Until/unless he is actually convicted, he gets way more out of staying than leaving.

Doesn't he have a lot of supporters in the Secret Service? (Like, to the point that Biden and Harris were concerned about it, IIRC?) I can't see them forcibly bringing him in.

That brings me to a question though: to what degree is his Secret Service detail required to stick by him if he did, for example, flee the country? If he went to Moscow (I don't think he will, but hypothetically) would they be required to follow him there?

Doesn't the government still have his passports from the top secret document raid on MAL? While technically he could try fleeing somewhere with no intention to return, if they would accept him, I doubt everyone else on the plane (pilots, security detail) would also be down with that.

Can anyone answer me on the Stormy Daniel payment? I thought the issue with it and why it's the centerpiece of all the NYS charges, is that it was made with campaign money. Is that not the case? I don't see anyone on any of the news outlets referring to it.

No, he paid for it with his own money. But he lied on business records about the payments, which is a crime.

This A.P. News article explains it pretty well: 

Cohen paid porn actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 through a shell company Cohen set up. He was then reimbursed by Trump, whose company logged the reimbursements as legal expenses.

Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, “grossed up” Cohen’s reimbursement for the Daniels payment for “tax purposes,” according to federal prosecutors who filed criminal charges against the lawyer in connection with the payments in 2018.

It becomes a felony if Trump falsified the business records to conceal a crime. 

Legal experts say a case could be made that Trump falsified business records by logging Cohen’s reimbursement for the Daniels payment as legal fees. But that’s only a misdemeanor under New York law — unless prosecutors could prove he falsified records to conceal another crime.

We'll know a lot more when the indictment is unsealed.

I thought the campaign related thing was that it could be considered an illegal donation to the campaign because even though it wasn't for campaign expenses, it benefitted the campaign by keeping her quiet.

This is where I am.  While I would get great joy out of seeing him in an orange jump suit in jail, I'm also ok with him just disappearing so we can move forward to a life without Trump.

I don’t think they’ll be much protesting going on but the nypd should close off blocks and blocks like they do for New Year’s Eve so they can’t even see him. This is what will piss him off the most. Don’t make it a rally at the court house.

While a part of me thinks he should be treated like any other person, there’s a part of me that hopes there’s no perp walk, handcuffs, public mug shot, etc. He will use all of those to further his story of being the martyr/victim. Giving him zero public attention will be more punishment for him than the arrest. No doubt he’s not at all concerned about the arraignment because I think he *truly* believes that he has done nothing wrong and they’re all out to get him. Or if he thinks he might have done something “a little not right”, he will get away with it…just like everything else in his life.

The coverage today on tv has been absolute insanity. CNN has been covering his limo to the plane. They are broadcasting outside trump tower like they’re at the mtv awards.

I'm glad they are doing it, but I also hate all the attention Trump is getting. He's goign to use this to propel his campaign forward.

Maggie haberman did say that he & his team were pretty shook and slightly shocked it actually happened....he's terrified of going to jail, but will play up everything for the cameras and theatrics.

I'm ready for more incitements to drop- I think the pre-POTUS/hush $/campaign finance is the least significant thing he will be charged with over the next few years.
