David Pecker, National Enquirer and Karen Mcdougal?
Ahh, this particular sub-plot was erased from my brain sometime in the last 5 years.
I completely understand. It’s best to let as much of this sleeze fade away, as possible. I hate that we will be soaked in his cesspool for all the months ahead of us. Bleh.
Reporter: "What are you going to do now?" Lawyer ( not Takapena, the other guy): "I'm going to go home and have some food. .....oh, you mean about the case"
Reporter: "Why did he post a picture with a baseball bat?" Takapena: "That's not a threat- he just wants to show off his well made bat."
They think he can't get a fair trial in Manhattan and it should be moved to Staten Island. Coincidentally the one borough where he has supports. Total coincidence though.

Theater of the absurd, but real life.
He wants a favorable trial, not a fair trial, hence this request.
But I promise all of that in the very unlikely event this happens, I will do everything humanly possible to get myself on that jury.
Apparently Secret Service is/was being interviewed re: Mar-a-Lago documents. Within the same commentary, they're saying Trump isn't a flight risk because of his Secret Service detail. So they'll let him do one crime and not another?
I don't trust his secret service detail as far as I can throw them.
How are you all feeling about the content and strength of the indictment? I've been glued to CNN, and the talking heads and guests seem pretty disappointed. They expected more. Can anyone here inject more hope into the situation? Anyone have a different read on it?
If they indicted him with a big nothing burger, it could be worse than if they hadn't charged him at all. I really want to believe Alvin Bragg thought this through better than this seems on the surface.
Eh, they seem to have a very solid foundation for charging him. Or are we (general) willing to not go after Presidents that commit crimes? 34 felony counts is not insubstantial.

From what I’ve followed on this in the last few hours, there is “disappointment,” but it almost seems a factor to me of the constant news cycle and looking for fresh content in a “new episode” of sorts - Trump himself helped conditioned us to seek that out. The underlying charges aren’t based on “new” unknown information, but that doesn’t make them any less valid. I liked the DA’s comments that these are crimes of fraud in New York state, which is the financial capital of the *world*, and that basically, accountability here, especially, should mean something. Those comments seemed to respond to the concerns that DOJ didn’t go after Trump for federal crimes, and Bragg also said they had more evidence than his predecessor did. It sounds like Georgia may have more of a heavy hit coming down the pike but I wouldn’t call today’s charges nothing.

I think he will be convicted and as I’ve said before, this is just the first one. There will be other, more serious charges coming.
BUT, I’m alarmed by the fact that he can still run and apparently be elected as President. This blows my mind. How will Republicans even frame this when they’ve done everything they can to prevent felons from voting in certain states and yet one of their candidates could be one himself soon?

This has always been the most technically minor of the crimes he's likely committed. But if you consider the impacts (altering the presidential election outcome) the consequences of his actions are hard to underestimate. I think that's why it goes from small business/document crimes to a felony. I'm pretty sure it's exactly what most people were predicting.

agree. CNN is definitely disappointed because it wasn't anymore than they've been speculating about. So well ok he has 34 charges but there wasn't anything new we didn't know so what's the big deal? And they are complaining that the charges weren't detailed so again a nothing burger. All of this helps him it's so frustrating.
Most of the people I’ve been following on this haven’t been super energized by this all along. They’ve been saying it’ll be a tough case to really prove because i think they have to prove intent. In theory, the DA *should* be really confident in this…but sometimes people do dumb things. A swing and a miss would be really bad here.
They feel VERY differently about the other cases that are ongoing. Those seem to be a lot more likely to result in some actual accountability.
So, I’m not hanging my hopes on this having major results. He should absolutely be held accountable, but if he gets away with this one, I’m pretty confident the others will stick.
As an example of they’ll twist ANYTHING to make him the victim…
I just read someone arguing that it is “election interference” to not take a mugshot. The thought being that they didn’t take the mugshot because they thought/knew he’d use it for campaign purposes. So by not taking the picture, they’re interfering with his campaign/the election.
The mental gymnastics are really quite phenomenal.
