TEA has made moves to put Austin ISD under conservatorship which is a major first step to take over Austin ISD just like Houston ISD which will oust the school board. It is not lost on me that they are targeting liberal cities and more liberal leaning districts and school boards.
I think it's such bullshit that ONE SINGLE SCHOOL in one of the biggest districts in the state (HISD) was behind (but improving) and the state just came in and removed all the locally elected board members.... Party of small government and local control - my ass.
The conservatorship is specifically to address concerns re: serving students receiving special education services. As a parent of children who receive SpEd services, we definitely have problems in actually having those services provided.

I’m not in your place so I will not speak for you. I believe that Austin ISD and probably many many more districts around the state have severe deficits in addressing Special Education. I just do not trust TEA and do not believe they will fix issues that they are definitely tied to creating. I think TEA actively works against schools with regarding unfunded mandates, STAAR, etc in addition to the defunding and public education.
My kids also receive Special Ed services in AISD. Yes, there are issues within the district, particularly with schools that aren't on the west side. I can't imagine that a TEA conservatorship is the answer.
HISD was actually on the right track and performed better than a lot of other districts in the state. But yeah they vote blue so let’s make a big stink. A takeover is for sure coming for AISD next. It’s scary and very easy to see the end game.
Special education services in the entire state needs a huge overhaul. That requires more funding though.
