I actually love this. Someone who has a vested interest in trying to support the lie, but doesn't, adds some credibility to the claims that nothing was proven.

I once went to an HR conference and met the HR manager of his company, we chatted for awhile. Her remarks on him, to a stranger, was that he was much more of an ideas guy than an actual business man or leader. And they put up with a lot of his whims, which makes for a chaotic company. She was not happy.
