They pulled out of Canada and today is the last day for the stores to be open. They didn’t put much on sale at all. I figured they were shipping the unsold stock to the US.
oh man, I liked being able to actually touch things before I bought them because i'm picky about how my kitchen tools feel. Like, little stuff like veggie peelers.

womp womp.
Same.
I ordered some spoons for cooking online and when they came they were so small and I was like "WTF?" I ended up at BB&B and liked that I could see and feel things.
Well, if HD and Lowe’s starts stocking their stores full of useless shit, maybe.
In the Midwest call that store Menards.
I miss Menards! Until I moved away I had no idea it was only a midwestern thing. They were always my first choice of the three stores to go to.
I don't see home improvement stores going anywhere. I honestly don't shop a lot in person these days, but those stores are both semi regular visits for me. There are always a ton of people there too.
I've been to Bed Bath and Beyond twice since we moved here 5 years ago - once to use a giftcard and once because Home Goods didn't have many towels and I really needed to get some that evening before guests were coming, so I went to the BB&B nearby. The towels were not the quality I remember being there in the past, but at least they were cheaper price-wise than I recalled? I probably won't miss them when they are gone - I primarily go to HomeGoods or Target for home stuff these days.
I too was registered at BB&B for my first wedding in 2009.
I used this opportunity to clean out my gift card box (which had less in it than I expected and none to BBB). I might order myself something fun from Bloomies and grab lunch at TJ's all for free! I do have a few bones left at Macy's so someone page me when that one decides to finally quit.
+ Mills Fleet Farm for random stuff everywhere. Livestock medication? Check. Wrangler and Carhartt clothes? Check. Bulk sized bags of candy and nuts? Check.
I wasn't a huge fan of BBB. I found it to be overpriced and they never seemed to have what I was looking for. I guess I've always bought that kind of stuff at Target.
I do think it sucks. But I also think BBB had led to its demise in a lot of ways. They didn’t evolve well.
They cheapened the products offered. And the store was cluttered and junky (at least ours was).
It was so many k cups and soda stream accessories, and then the whole front half was as seen on tv products. Another whole corner was candles.
There was very little of what I needed or wanted.
YES
The last time I went into ours, it seemed like it was full of random novelty trinkets, and had a really weird vibe.
After we got married and bought a house, we didn't have a real reason to keep on going back there. However, for a long time, I would go there for the holidays and pick up some nice things for my family members who love cooking. Last time we went it was so bizarre to see the nice brands replaced with utter garbage.

I’m not at all surprised. I think they really shot themselves in the foot with their couponing strategy. They trained their customers not to shop without a 20% off coupon and I just never understood how they could maintain operating with that kind of reduction in margin. Apparently they couldn’t.

+ Groceries!
My Menards has this secret corner in the back with a fully stocked grocery store for pantry items. AND I think the entire line of Watkins extracts and soaps. It's wild, the opposite of random useless shit, and I love it.
It doesn’t seem like that many years ago that DD re-did her room and updated it with all BB&B stuff. It was August and they had everything you needed to outfit a dorm room. The stuff isn’t great but was trendy and on-point for a teenager. Our stores have been closed for a few years, too.
I got a gift card to BBB from my MIL for my birthday 6+ months ago and hadn’t used it. I panic-bought some Fiestaware after I saw the announcement yesterday, afraid they’ll quit honoring gift cards.

I loved that store (and also worked there for a little while). Wandering kitchen tools and bathroom accessories is my happy place. Ours is still open, but yes, definitely went way downhill. They bought the Wamsutta brand and then got rid of it for their awful house brand.
Home improvement stores really thrive on the contractor trade, too, so as long as building is moving right along, they'll be fine.
The last time I went to BB&B was probably 2 years ago to do one of those Happy Returns. I noticed last year that they aren't doing them anymore - probably not getting enough of those people in the door who then shopped/bought things while they were there. I know I didn't.
With the demise of Babies 'R Us, I know a lot of people moved to use Buy Buy Baby, which seems likely to go under unless it can be spun off to another retailer. It WAS nice being able to see things like car seats in person, even though I've always hated the name.
I'm pretty sure that when we moved, I cashed in a ton of credit card points for BBB gift cards and never spent them since getting to our BBB is not worth the parking lot fight. Now I need to spend them...
In other news, maybe my tongue will stop saying we need to stop at Bed Bath and Body Works for candles when I go to the mall?
I took DD to buy a bath mat recently and was shocked at the inventory. It's all just inexpensive basics now plus the beauty section of Walgreens. The bath rug she picked out for $18 is pretty nice but nothing we couldn't buy at Target.

Just saw they are going to stop accepting gift cards on May 8.

Sure, but the free Fleet Farm t-shirts at the county fair are the best thing ever!
for real. The Last few times I needed something a quick price comparison with other stores showed that what I was shopping for was cheaper elsewhere -- even with the coupons. So I haven't actually bought anything from BB&B in years, but I still have drawers stuffed full of coupons.

They seemed to have a pretty big section full of Halloween tchotchkes the last time that I entered a BB&W. That's about all that I remember from my last visit.
Edit: This was about two or three years ago. I was just surprised because I thought that the place was supposed to be full of nice-quality bedding and towels, and the part of the store that I walked through was just coffee cups and Halloween knick-knacks.

womp womp.
I found my newest cutting board at Wegmans recently. There’s still Williams Sonoma. For now.
