I'm really hoping some incredibly embarrassing back story comes out explaining why this happened. there will never be enough public embarassment that will satisfy me for this asshole. I can't wait to watch Rachel Maddow tonight.

I'm worried. He was still at the top of the deplorable Fox News game so I don't think he's leaving out of embarrassment. He'll probably be a campaign advisor for 2024 or some shit. So, still powerful in some way.

The fact that Fox isn't even giving him a farewell show or anything (his last show was 4/21) is certainly an indication that this wasn't something he chose. And just a week after the Dominion settlement. Good riddance

In some ways I think him decoupling from Fox will make him more dangerous. Name recognition but without any of the brand restraint (to the extent that exists) or advertiser panic. So… yup.
Maybe he felt the genetic pull of the frozen food industry and he left to design more Hungry Man dinners. Returning to his roots. I'd be good with that.
Or, this might be fun.... maybe when Fox was doing another pointless investigation into Hunter Biden, more salacious details emerged about Tucker and wife asking Hunter for help with getting their kid into Georgetown. Hoisted on his own petard (or whatever that phrase is).
Here's my theory: What if Tucker Carlson is leaving to run for the GOP nomination?
DeSantis has been imploding and Tucker has always had political ambitions. Maybe he sees an opening but needs to leave Fox first. That's why Trump left the Apprentice, after all.

The way the press release was worded certainly gave this impression too — that he was forced out rather than resigned by choice to pursue another opportunity.
I’m sure he’ll fail upwards though because this is the country we live in.

I would worry about that...except I don't think he'd take on Trump. They'd be fighting for the same 30-40% of primary voters, the other 60ish% are open to a Trump alternative but they want someone "less controversial."
Also Trump didn't leave the Apprentice, NBC canceled the show.

Plus he is reportedly worth over 400 million, he's not hurting unfortunately.

Tucker seems delusional enough to take on Trump, but the sudden firing without a last show does make it seem like it wasn't Tucker's choice to leave.
The last couple of years have stolen my optimism that bad people will experience consequences, so of course my mind is spinning out scenarios where this is bad for America.

I didn't read too much into not having a final show. Based on what I've seen in the news world, on-air reporters tend to do their last show and then there's a farewell announcement. And then they're gone minutes later. Granted, the fact that he didn't say anything about Friday being his last show might be strange, but I still am inclined to believe this was brewing for a bit.
I'm guessing it's a bunch of things, including the Dominion lawsuit. Recently it was the Jan 6 footage that he was given by McCarthy, which Carlson editorialized down to saying it was just a peaceful protest.
Jeff Shell, the head of Comcast's vast entertainment and media business, NBCUniversal, is leaving his role immediately, the company said Sunday, after an investigation found that he had engaged in "inappropriate conduct."
Shell had worked at Comcast for 19 years. In a brief statement, he apologized for an "inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company," and said he was "truly sorry" for letting down colleagues.
Comcast's statement added that outside counsel had been hired to oversee the investigation into Shell's behavior following a complaint, but provided very few other details.
According to a person with knowledge, the complaint was filed recently by the employee, who was a subordinate, and the company acted within days of the complaint.
A Fox News representative had no other details on Carlson's exit. People familiar with the situation who were not authorized to comment publicly said the decision to fire Carlson came straight from Fox Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch.
Carlson's exit is related to the discrimination lawsuit filed by Abby Grossberg, the producer fired by the network last month, the people said. Carlson's senior executive producer Justin Wells has also been terminated, according to people familiar with the matter. A Fox News representative would not comment

LOL
ETA: Sorry, that was my first gut reaction. I hope he has trouble being picked up elsewhere (Newsmax, OAN, or even CNN) and withers away. One can dream.

Fox is going to only put out the most bland info on Tucker’s departure until they wait and see what their audience wants the narrative to be. Then they’ll report that BS narrative as “fact” and bloviate ad nauseam that they were totally transparent from the beginning.

I first remember Tucker Carlson when he was on CNN's Crossfire with Paul Begala. I was in high school at the time, and remember thinking what a dumbass Carlson was. I wish nothing but the worst for him. Some Russian state media outlet would be a fitting end to his media career.

Newsmax hired Pittsburgh's very own Wendy Bell, an award-winning anchor who then became loudly right-wing and got fired from 3 different media outlets in Pittsburgh since 2016. So, I don't think that the bar is very high at Newsmax.

A prominent anchor on Russian state TV said on Monday that the U.S. mainstream media had “lost its last remaining voice of reason” after Fox host Tucker Carlson abruptly left the network.

He really has a punchable face. And of course there's a word for that in German. Backpfeifengesicht
