I would consider it hydration as long as it was not caffeinated, but I would not consider it healthy.
Caffeinated beverages can be hydrating. They do have a slight diuretic effect, but they also usually contain a lot of water so they have a net hydrating effect. Even the Mayo Clinic and NIH say that coffee in moderate amounts doesn’t dehydrate.
and in large amounts can be preventative against cancer.
But not water, still hydrating, and I hate sweet drinks so I think a squeeze if lemon is different than a drop of crystal lite. I recognize this might be my bias
I have been flavoring my water for years because I don't like regular water. I can drink it, but I drink a lot more if it tastes like something. I'm not hauling around a Stanley or anything, but I enjoy a nice squirt of a Mio.
My daughter Girl Scout troop was doing a hot cocoa stand at a parade today and the leaders want to do a lemonade stand at the next event and wanted my input on syrups to make "fancy" lemonade and they knew I'd know. I mentioned watertok and one of the cadettes said, "oh, you are one of THOSE moms." Like yeah... I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom. (I think?)
If you're adding sliced fruit or just a calorie-free flavor squeeze, it absolutely is hydration and healthy!
If you add the equivalent of a cup of sugar and a kool-aid packet, it might be hydration, but it's also a lot of stuff that your body has to process back out, which may be harmful to you depending on your sugar tolerance.
90% of my "water" every day is flavored with crystal light. I still call it water lol. By flavoring the water with crystal light I drink much more water every day. I can usually get close to 90 ounces a day if it's flavored. And it does sit better in my stomach vs plain water due to a history of gastric bypass.
WHY IS THIS!?!
Thank you for sharing this. I thought this was totally my imagination. I feel like I can handle a 16 oz glass of crystal light lemonade easier than water and had convinced myself it was all in my head. But plain ole water sometimes feels so heavy. Have you ever found a reason for this phenomenon?

Bodies are weird?? Lol I have no idea why and frankly I've never looked into it. I've just accepted it as one of those things I have to just deal with.
