Yeah, from the pictures I saw, the floral headpieces were lovely.
It’s a bit odd though, right? To wear a sparkly head piece when you can’t wear a tiara? Seemed very “look at me”, and to make sure photos of her and Charlotte upstaged photos of Camilla. Megan would have been ripped to shreds for doing something like this.
Surely Camilla had a hand in picking out who wore what, right? Like a bride and her bridesmaids.

There aren't many photos of Kate without her cape, but it appears her dress is similar Camilla's. ETA : also charlotte matched them
Okay, so this is sort of Coronation-adjacent. Remember how there was hemophilia in the British Royal Family, and then Queen Victoria's children married into all of the royal families in Europe and spread around the hemophilia? And then that's how it got into the Romanov bloodline? Why do we no longer hear about this being a concern when royal households start families? Is it because they no longer marry their cousins?
Personally, I'm pissed off that we're the only country that puts this much money into a coronation and that they kept upping the budget more and more, at a time when people are really struggling to put food on the table. It feels so out of touch and a try to move back to the feudal times (which the Tories have been pushing).

Fun story: Prince Philip's maternal grandmother - Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine - was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Her mother was Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, Victoria and Albert's second daughter. Princess Alice carried the hemophilia gene (one of two of Queen Victoria's daughters who did).
Princess Alice had 7 children: Princess Victoria - who went on to have 2 daughters (including Princess Alice of Battenburg (Mountbatten), later Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark), Philip's mother) and 2 sons. No hemophilia. Apparently not a carrier. Princess Elizabeth, later Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia - no children, died in the Russian Revolution Princess Irene of Prussia - had 3 sons, 2 of which had hemophilia Prince Ernst Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine - did not have hemophilia and therefore cannot be a carrier Prince Friedrich - died at age 2 after a fall, because he had hemophilia Czarina Alexandra of Russia - 4 daughters, 1 son with hemophilia, we know what happened to them Princess Mary (Mae) - died of diphtheria a few weeks before her mother also died of the disease
Hemophilia is a recessive trait, linked to the X chromosome, so women are almost always carriers (the second, "normal" X chromosome compensates for the mutated one), but men, having only one X chromosome, will have it if they inherit the X chromosome from their mother. The only way a woman would have it would be if her father had hemophilia and her mother was a carrier, or a spontaneous mutation + inheriting one I assume. I think people assume that Queen Victoria was the one with the spontaneous mutation since she had a son with hemophilia and it hadn't appeared in the royal family before.
Anyway, the last European royal born with hemophilia was Infante Gonzalo, the youngest child of Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain (a granddaughter of Queen Victoria). He was born in 1914 and died in 1934 after a minor car accident caused internal bleeding.

I have a feeling Kate had no say in what she wore.
My entire take right now is that the camilla looks RIDCIULOUS in that crown. like...does she have a tiny head? she must. it's dwarfing her. It looks like it's going to slip over her eyes.

And I was a little suprised that Katherine wore earrings that belonged to Princess Diana. Seems like a subtle F.U to the Queen perhaps??
Camilla is Queen Consort. But no one refers to the Queen that way, except for Camilla. We don't refer to any of the other female monarchs in Europe as Queen Consort. There isn't a lot of good will towards Camilla, and the Queen Consort title was presented as an option since the royal family knew that the public would not accept her right away as Queen.

There are two types of British Queens. A Queen Regnant is a Queen who is also the reigning monarch. A Queen Consort is a queen who is married to a king who is the reigning monarch.
Most British Queens have been Queen Consorts since the crown used to pass to the eldest son, and only went to a daughter if there was no son. Elizabeths (I and II) and Victoria are three notable Queen Regnants.
Given that Britain had a Queen Regnant for the entire life of most of it's citizens, the change to a King with a Queen Consort is notable. Citing it is short hand to explain why Camilla doesn't have the powers Elizabeth did. (and nor will Katherine if she follows her).

Her title is Queen Camilla, but she's technically the Queen Consort, rather than Queen Regnant.
So like Queen Elizabeth II was "II" because Queen Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry VIII, was the first. But when Queen Elizabeth II's mother was queen she was the queen consort, married to George VI, so she was just known as "Queen Elizabeth" and later "the Queen Mother" without a number or anything.
And I was a little suprised that Katherine wore earrings that belonged to Princess Diana. Seems like a subtle F.U to the Queen perhaps??
Eh.... this feels a bit "if you look hard enough....". Kate often wears jewelry that belonged to Diana at public events. This is nothing new.
Could it be an FU? Maybe. But, does it even matter?
I would guess that she wears Diana's old jewels often because Will inherited them and now they're hers, versus jewels that belong to the Crown that presumably she would have to ask for and receive permission to wear.

Various news articles are claiming that no one was allowed to wear tiaras because Charles wanted to have a more "low key" coronation (LOL), but Kate's headpiece was the most tiara-looking headpiece I could imagine. It looked almost more like a tiara/crown than some actual tiaras. I guess the only thing that made it *not* a tiara was the fact that it wasn't made of metal?
That said, I will happily hate on Kate all day long for all sorts of things, but I doubt she had any say whatsoever in what she wore to the coronation. Kate and Charlotte's matching headpieces were probably very carefully analyzed so that they portrayed exactly the sort of image Charles wanted to project. I admit I did love the mother daughter matching.
The best part of the coronation is, undoubtedly, the memes.
I am happy to hate in Kate but I think Camilla insisted that no one got tiaras or other jewels so Kate had to figure something out. The headpiece was nice and it was cute that Charlotte matched. I doubt Camilla will be as kind with loaning out royal jewels as the queen was which is fine by me.
All I have to add to the convo is that I sometimes watch the youtube channel of English aristocracy that is very down to earth as they're renovating their castle (that's falling down), and trying to preserve some of that history. The wife is American, and she's hilarious with her observations. Anyway, since the ceremonial robes weren't going to be used this year, she had her MIL pin down where they were just so she could see them. They found them in a random sitting room, in a chest, stuffed into black trash bags. They dug them out and displayed them in the home for the coronation. Here's the episode: youtu.be/mweI_rSloRI

I just watched it on hulu from the taped special ABC did. As to be expected, the commentators were all beside themselves with how much they loved every aspect of it.
It was odd and seemed out of a movie.
They had a niece/goddaughter of King Charles on for a few minutes and she was just gushing about these fantastically personal presents that Charles had given her over the year - like an engraved clock and china. I'd really like to ask Charles about any of them, because I'm confident he has no idea what she's referencing and someone else must have been taking care of this for him (i.e. Diana and then Camilla or some secretary).
They also kept harping on how pared down this coronation was compared to Queen Elizabeths. They had paring the could continue to make...
Oh and I also googled the cue cards that Charles used - apparently Elizabeth used them too. I still thought it was odd.
