We answer the door sometimes. We have a camera, but it’s mostly to see when packages get dropped off, and so we can talk to C’s friends who come over while we’re gone (just to say “hey Matty, C will be home in about an hour, he’ll come by after we get back!).
We get a bunch of solicitors in our neighborhood, sometimes we answer and sometimes we don’t. If we can tell that it’s a kid we always answer because they’re usually trying to fundraise for scouts or a team or whatever.
I usually don’t answer my phone if I think it’s spam, but I sometimes get calls from “unknown” numbers that aren’t spam, so I try to answer those if I can.
We've now hardwired our Ring so that it's attached to our house door bell, but before we did that - we only knew someone was pressing the doorbell on our phones/watches. My stepmother was over watching DS one weekend. I think we were in Nashville!! They ordered food and the guy rang the doorbell and I knew they wouldn't know he was there - so luckily I was able to speak to him and say "hold on a minute - they're home....." and then had to call them to tell them to answer the door.
I only answer phone calls if they are from my town. Otherwise, I send them to voicemail which of course I never actually get.
Doorbell I always answer. We have friends stop by. The only time I avoid is election cycles as I am normally not in the mood to chit chat about candidates. Thank you for your efforts, I am unsubscribing from those conversations lol. Especially when we already have candidate signs in our yard. :-)
I generally answer my door if I'm near it, because our kitchen window is right next to the door and it's pretty obvious we are there and ignoring otherwise. I do not answer phone calls to my cell unless they are local - usually spam calls are from where the number originated, so that's pretty easy.
If I do answer though I am polite. I figure in most cases the person who actually stands to benefit from the call isn't the one calling - they probably employ someone who is just looking to earn a living. Is that an incorrect assumption?
I knocked on my neighbor's door the other day because their kids were picking and trampling on my flowers and I wanted them to know so they could supervise. It didn't occur to me until this thread that none of us should really knock on anyone's door anymore - you never know if you will be murdered for doing so. What a sad time to be living in America.
