Tell me more about where Kaitlin started her career?
I was just so annoyed that she kept calling him Mr. President. Ok but how many times do you need to say it? We got it already the 40 other times.
It would not have gone any differently with no audience. This is just what he does in every interview which is why you don’t give him a platform. He rambles with Sean Hannity. It doesn’t matter.
The Daily Caller (Tucker Carlson’s baby.) She worked there until 2017 and really said and wrote some nasty stuff, including gross anti immigrant, anti-BLM and anti-LGBT stuff. The fact that CNN is promoting her more after this “town hall” farce definitely tells a story.
Oh god just went down the rabbit hole. How fucking awful
Anderson tonight started his show saying I know you are all upset but he is the front runner of the Republican Party and sort of defending what they did. Um ok yeah we know he is leading. We hear him daily and know he hasn’t changed. They act like they were doing everyone a public service last night like all of us didn’t know what to expect. No one thought we’d hear something new.
MSNBC is showing clips throughout the day and I am so freaking angry that CNN put this out there in the first place. The defense that "we have to cover him" is ridiculous because they weren't covering his rally, they were holding a rally for him. The 2016 election process was awful and 2020 was even worse. i am really scared what's to come for 2024. we're certainly starting off on a terrible foot.

The WaPo OpEd I posted earlier touched on this exact point. I hope it isn't paywalled for most.
Yeah, he's a former president which is newsworthy. And he's currently the leader, which is newsworthy. But they don't have to give him a free platform to spread hatred and lies.
I'm disappointed in Anderson. He probably has a metaphrorical gun to his head, though, given the new leadership and recent firings. But he's independently rich enough (probably) to ignore it.
I wonder if there isn't some "better to fight from inside and be heard than be outside and silenced" justification going on.
. That’s not surprising at a Trump rally, but us surprising at an event if a supposed news organization. Fuck CNN for this monstrosity. Further legitimizing his lies and propaganda is a very dangerous move just to get ratings.

She started at the Daily Caller. She will always be suspect to me.

Yeah, he was very this is so you won't be asleep at the wheel again like in 2016. So much more fuckery has gone on since then, if people aren't revved up to fight this time, that town hall isn't going to do it.

I don't listen to Pod Save American very often, but I did yesterday & they made the point, CNN (and most media) are a for-profit business and they are going to do what they need to to make $. We're being a little ridiculous if we suddenly expect journalist to "save America" and do the right thing instead of trying to maximize profits. If we really believe that media/journalism is the 4th branch of government, then we should support public sources of non-partisan and non-profit media.

Yes, I'm fully aware that CNN is a for profit company, but that doesn't make their actions any less irresponsible. I don't think anyone thinks media is a branch of government (what??), but the town hall was business, not journalism and is being called out by other journalists.

This is the kind of smug bro nonsense that makes me truly loathe most of the Pod guys. Ah yes, everyone else must have forgotten that we live under capitalism in our critiques. How dare we demand even a basic return to the normal level of for profit news shenanigans to which we have become accustomed for most of our country’s history instead of whatever the fuck CNN thinks they are doing right now which is absolutely not normal even in the ugly world of for profit major news networks.
It’s like they think everyone else is a fucking idiot.
We all could have sat here and predicted how this would go before it even aired. Chris Licht is no fucking dummy. He's been doing this media shit for a very very long time and he knew this was gonna happen but he's just a greedy fuck and wanted ratings. How many times has trump done this in town halls and interviews? a million, all the time. I'm still so fucking irked that Kaitlin kept calling him Mr. President over and over and over. If you didn't watch it, I am not exaggerating. seriously wtf.
And on the after show, Jake and John King and all of them look truly astonished and so pissed off and upset at how it went. I don't know if they were just pissed because it happened or truly shocked at what they saw because literally no-one else was shocked.
The one potential silver lining of this utter bullshit is that many pundits on MSNBC are saying that Jack Smith can use a lot of this in his prosecution since Trump incriminated himself multiple times. Like all of us, I'm a little jaded about him facing any consequences, but maybe this is a start? E.Jean Carroll is supposedly suing him again for defamation re: the disgusting things he said about her.
