I mean…there has been some assessment that Hunter didn’t get lesser punishments than others who are charged with the same things. If everyone who gets charged goes to prison for years, then sure, I’ll be the first to say justice hasn’t been served with this. But by all appearances so far, he was treated like a normal citizen. But we all know the GOP is just yelling because their base will eat up what they’re saying even if it’s not true.

Elsewhere, I think in the NYT, it was also remarked that he ultimately did pay his taxes owed. Jail time is more typical if someone hasn’t paid taxes owed by the time they are charged and especially if they are taking more steps to evade taxes.

It was more the tone of the responses I've seen. Self congratulatory that their leader doesn't have criminal children. That all crimes are committed by Dems. Also that this judge is a trump appointee, and I just don't trust if the rules were reversed it would get the same reaction

Yes I know this. I have no problem with hunter paying for his crimes. I'm just feeling cynical that they'll ever even be charged

I've definitely had plea deals fall apart at the table throughout my career, but in 21 years of being a prosecutor I've never heard of a judge spending 3 hours reviewing ANY plea, much less one for mostly misdemeanors. This smells like some Trump judge BS (probably because he appointed so many unqualified people).
