momin2013, same here. We have cable, plus Prime, Netflix, and Max. And while we watch those streaming services, we like to just turn on the tv and quickly find something to put on.
They are FINALLY replacing my AC unit today. It really should have been replaced months ago, but it took until this heat wave for them to believe me that it wasn't working right. 🙄 Whatever, it's almost done and I'm about to have a cool, comfortable house again!

It was a really full weekend and I am so not ready to be back at work!
Friday we saw a Star Wars themed burlesque show called The Empire Strips Back. After the first few numbers I wasn't really sure, but as the night went on the performances became much more ribald and hilarious. The highlight for me was a "naked" Emperor Palpatine doing "Wrecking Ball" while swinging on a mirrored Death Star. It was absolutely hysterical!
Saturday we disco napped and then saw Ava Max at a smaller venue. J sprung for the meet & greet which was after the show. After being told multiple times NO TOUCHING, I was so surprised when we walked up to the backdrop and she had her arms open for a hug. She was so nice and friendly; not my usual experience with meet & greets. She complimented my earrings and when I told her I made them, she seemed genuinely impressed. I should have whipped out a business card...lol
Sunday was the Pride parade. We took the light rail down and who is standing next to me but Ijeoma Oluo (I know she lives in North Seattle.) I gasped when she got on because she's so recognizable to me but I was too shy to say hello. I didn't want to be an obnoxious fangirl, you know? She was wearing this stunning orange dress and it turns out she was a grand marshal in the parade. The parade was amazing, and we had grandstand seats, so a terrific view. Wish I'd brought a cushion because my butt bones are so sore today.
DS 2 is doing a morning hiking camp this week, and it's either going to be his favorite thing ever or he's going to be super obnoxious every day about how tired he is. There is no middle ground with this child.
I have so many chores I didn't do over the weekend that need to get taken care of today, but so far all I've managed is making the grocery list and messing around on my computer. I was supposed to go to the dentist today but they had to reschedule me for later in the week, and in the back of my brain I think I've convinced myself that this is now a "free" morning, laundry and dirty kitchen be damned.
I love these shorts so much! I have since bought five pairs of the black, two of the khaki and one of the green. And they are on sale for $20. I got my usual medium, but the run a bit big. LOVE THEM:

I, too, have a kinda love, kinda hate relationship with streaming. I dislike that we have to “find” something to watch, which often involves watching previews of everything recommended. And 46 seconds of a show, then switching just annoys me. Just put something on already!
I have two bird feeders outside my office window. The squirrels are nuts about them. I’m half annoyed, half entertained. Today is annoyance because we just filled them up a few days ago and they are empty.

This year my H finally gave in and put squirrel guards on our feeders because it was getting a bit out of control. But even with those on we get so many birds that H still has to refill every other day or so. It's fun to watch though!
Does anyone else lose all ability to make any decisions when hungry? Once again, H (who rarely even eats lunch) ate what I was planning to have for lunch and now I’m hungry and the only option here is scrambled eggs and toast which I had for breakfast and it’s 100 degrees outside so I don’t want to go outside and I don’t want to hear how we’re spending too much money if I DoorDash something and I’m AWARE of how RIDICULOUS this sounds. Does anyone else’s mind just break when you’re hungry?

Yes, 100%, and you are completely justified in ordering something just for you and telling him that the person who left you with no lunch doesn't get to complain about your backup lunch.

L is sick and on his third day of prednisone, so he is alternately incredibly whiny about EVERYTHING (literally he told me not to breathe earlier) and literally the smiling devil emoji creating chaos and finding it hilarious. I feel like I should warn daycare that I will be sending them a Tasmanian devil rather than a human child tomorrow.
I don't know what happened, but we've had a free tier for Peacock for a few years. I just watched it yesterday. I went to watch something this morning and it's forcing me to sign up for a paid account.
I am so bummed. I am not sure that I want to pay for old seasons of Top Chef. But I did legitimately watch it a lot.
I feel so old when I talk about TV. I HATE streaming and having to pay for channels individually. I hate not being able to just sit down and put on a channel and watch whatever is on. I used to veg out to HGTV or TLC or whatever. But now even if I want to just watch something for 10 minutes while I eat breakfast, I have to go through a whole decision-making process and navigate through smart menus and stuff. Idk. I'm too young to act this "old" about technology LOL.
So I pay over $200 per month for Comcast basically for this reason 😳 the other day I was just flipping around and ended up with the farmhouse renovation show Jonathan Knight does on HGTV and enjoyed it so much! And I don’t even mind commercials because then I get up and run to the bathroom or whatever. I’m basically an old. I’m a sahm so I’m home a lot and keep the tv on for company. I just like casual watching instead of having to commit to a show lol!
The 16 year old got mad at me for waking him up at 11:30 this morning because the cleaning lady was coming. Luckily he starts his job soon so I don’t need to deal with this nonsense lol
Since there is no camp or work for the teen today the 4 of us plus the dog are hiding out in the basement tv room until the cleaning lady is done. It’s a lot of forced togetherness in a small space

I feel this! It's why we still have cable, because sometimes I just want to watch tv! I don't want to think about what I want to watch.

I either lose the ability to make a decision OR I crave something very specific. XH and I were at our least compatible when we were hungry. OMG. More than once I'd be hungry and craving something specific, like sushi, and he'd be like "Oh no, anything but sushi!" and it would take us for-ev-er to agree on something.
Hulu Live is good for finding something that's "live" and just watching. It's a little bit of a learning curve to get to the guide, but otherwise, I like it.
Today was the first day of day camp for kid and she said this morning that she had butterflies because she was both excited and nervous LOL. Then thankfully when we got there she saw a girl she knows and one of the counselors remembered that she plays volleyball (impressive since it was like a 30 second convo at the open house over a month ago!) and that perked her up even more.
Speaking of volleyball - kid had her championship games for this season on Saturday and her team came out on top! She was so proud and so were we. I love that she is not really afraid to try new things because I really didn't get the opportunity to do much when I was a kid. She's only been playing about 6 months and just loves it so much. I think it helps that her coach is amazing and balances teaching and encouraging so well. It's kind of pricy though so I'm not sad that a new round won't start until Sept/Oct haha.
I've been participating in a research study around covid vaccinations for about 6 months so today I had to go do a saliva deposit and dang you would be surprised how long it takes to gather 1.8 milliliters (I think that's the tube size anyway)! But yay for science. I do get test results sporadically so that is interesting. The last one confirmed that I have antibodies from vaccinations but not from illness and it honestly floors me that I've not yet had covid (knock on wood). Especially since at the height of it all H was working on the road as a Paramedic and was around it all the time. Science is crazy and so interesting.

Is getting an antenna an option for you? We have one and we get about 75-80 channels that way.
This is 100% selfish, I know and understand that, and I'm going to bury it here. My birthday is coming up. I hate it. I'm always of two minds, most of me just wanting to let the day pass with minimal acknowledgment, but there's always a little part of me that wishes I would get a big gesture from someone. My birthday has never been a big deal, and it's kind of a chicken vs egg situation. I don't know if it's always been low-key because that's what I want, or if it was always low key so I never wanted to make a big deal. And then when it passes, as I've said I want, with minimal fanfare, I always get disappointed. Having a holiday adjacent birthday sucks. In a funny turn, H's birthday is on his parents wedding anniversary, so he 100% understands.

This is 100% the reason why I haven't given in to cutting cable. Even though we grossly overpay for tons of channels we never watch, I need to be able to sit down, turn on the TV, and just watch whatever's on (and for me, that's either Food Network, HGTV or TLC).
Food Network, HGTV and TLC are all part of Max. Whenever I'm in an "whatever is on" mood I turn to one of those channels and randomly choose a show.

My dad has very generously and unexpectedly offered to pay for us to put a pool in our new house. We were talking about how it's our plan to do it a few years from now, and he said he'd like to be able to give this gift to DD now while she's still young to maximize the time she will get to enjoy it for, like my sister and I did with our childhood home pool. But I'm not sure he has an idea of just how expensive inground pools have become, and there are a lot of "side" costs like redoing the lawn after they destroy it and whatnot. We have SO MUCH lawn though and this will help us get rid of a good deal of it. We would need a pretty large pool for it to look right in our yard. In doing the research and talking with friends who have recently installed pools, we are pretty interested in fiberglass. Some friends we know just had one installed and it's beautiful. It's cheaper than gunite but more durable than vinyl, and a much faster install than gunite. Anyone here familiar with fiberglass pools that could share some pros and cons?

Solidarity.
My birthday falls on Easter often. I always think it’s going to be great and it never is. So I just say, “I want a cake and pizza,” and that’s what I get so I am “happy.”
I think I just stopped caring about my birthday because it always sucks and I’ve had plenty of them, lol.

We had a fiberglass pool installed in Feb/Mar. It was also a gift from my parents and was about $95k. We did a 16x36 with a tanning ledge with bubblers and a water spiller feature wall. It's the D36 on this website: www.riverpoolsandspas.com/fiberglass-pool-shapes
That did not include landscaping and the fence, which we covered.
I love it. Install was painless as we have an accessible yard and didn't have a fence yet. There was water in it by the end of day 2. We did end up splurging on a heater because they had one they had installed and then took out, so we got it about 30% off and it has been worth it.
I don't have any recent pictures online, but this was just after they did the pool deck concrete. The patio we did back in 2016/2017.
ETA: We have a massive yard, 3/4 of an acre. So we still have a lot to mow.
