After a rough dentist appointment for dd yesterday, she has an ADHD evaluation today, and I’m having so many feelings.
But, today is my Friday, so yay for that! We’re camping with my parents, in their super nice camper, tomorrow through Sunday. Looking forward to some pool time!
I just got new glasses for the first time in years — I wear contacts 90% of the time so my old glasses had been adequate. I don’t know what happened but I absolutely hate the frames I picked out. Not sure if the eye doctor’s office will let me change them at this point, but I’m at least going to try. They look not terrible but they’re way too heavy on my face to be comfortable.
I went for a pedicure last night after my hellish work day…it was definitely some needed relaxation time. Today I’m supposed to meet two coworkers for lunch, despite what is bound to be another insane day for all three of us. I can’t spend the next two weeks (it’s the end of our FY) chained to my desk, so people are just going to have to wait while I’m at lunch. I need this break in order to function like a normal person! I’m proud of myself for being better about boundaries and letting myself have some breaks instead of just compromising my life for work all the time. It’s took me a loooooooong time to get here.
Pretty sure my dog licked her paws at least 75% of the night. This is the problem with a post dinner swim.
The entire right side of my leg hurt last night, that was fun. Nothing made it feel better, stretching, standing/sitting, rolling, nada. Coupled with a carpal tunnel flare up in my right hand/arm and I was struggling.
I'm in our Philly office today. I actually don't mind being here, most of my team is here, and even my morning commute isn't terrible. But going home this afternoon will be dreadful. Last Tuesday it took me 2 hours to get home and I was homicidal. Hopefully today is just regular old traffic, because I cannot handle another hellish commute like that.
I'm booking our family whitewater rafting trip today. This is my 3rd favorite summer tradition.
Our closet light has always had a pull chain in the 11 years we've lived here, and every time the chain wore out and broke we talked about getting it wired. It broke again over the weekend, but this time I finally had the thought to look for something with a remote, and ta da, you can in fact get a remote-controlled fixture that just screws into the existing socket so we didn't even have to do any installation, mess with breakers, etc. This is the littlest thing, but it's making me oddly happy that it's a switch instead of the stupid chain hanging there.

I am really over the cost of plane tickets. How can something cost $200 pp to fly one month and $1500 pp a few months later. It is all such crap. Also $1500 is stupid for coach tickets.

My jaw is a mess right now and I have too much adulting to do to get to the dentist.
Kid has cellulitis from a bug bite. He has the worst time with bug bites 🥲
I'm over my garden this year; it's been insanely bad. My plants grow in bursts, aborted fruit, pests, my strawberries didnt flower, they keep getting driwned by the crazy rain...I've gotten 1 cucumber and 1 zucchini so far. 🫠
I have zero motivation to do my job today. I also need to call my vet's office and I keep putting it off. I hate calling to begin with, but they're always so busy I feel like I'm just adding to their burden. Irrational, I know.
Does anyone else let an appointment that they're dreading ruin their whole week? I have my yearly appointment with my periodontist today. I had a gum graft 10 years ago on one tooth so I get followed up every year. Just in the last year or so I've noticed the gum on another tooth receding so I am terrified about what he is going to say about that today, and it's literally been consuming my thoughts all week. I don't think it's at gum graft level yet at all, and my dental hygienist at my last regular dental appointment said it looked okay to her, but I'm still so nervous. I can't wait until it's over. I'm also wondering wtf I did to deserve this happening again because I am meticulous about dental hygiene and go every 4 months for cleanings.
So anyway, that's my Tuesday. At least I can go to Trader Joes after for fun snacks because there's one nearby my appt.
I am putting this out there as a PSA in case other people did know this. tldr- the expiration date on your passport is not a hard and fast rule. Update your passport 6 months out if you think you will be traveling internationally.
My sis is going to Fiji with her family this weekend. She woke up a night ago in the middle of the night with an email from the Fiji airline and in the email it said you can't travel if your passport is going to expire in 6 months. Well her passport expires in 5 months. Cue freaking the fuck out which is very unlike my sister. She was told to contact the airline and they did approve her to travel. but in the meantime she had booked a emergency passport renewel appointment in Texas and she lives in California. It was a lot of drama in a 4 hour period.
So learn a lesson. Renew your passport with plenty of time. Don't trust the expiration date. It is like a fake expiration date according to some countries lol.

It’s my H’s 40th birthday today! We have been so busy with storm cleanup and kid illness and on and on.
I struggled with what to get him for his birthday, so last night we made a late-night run to get him a PS5. I’ve held him off for a few years, but if you can know me and love me for half of your life I can give you one joy 🤣
I stopped by the cute little coffee shop that's on my way to the office. Each month they switch up the flavor of their cold brew. Normally, I get the regular cold brew with sweet cream, but they currently have a chocolate covered strawberry cold brew - cold brew is the base and the cup is drizzled with chocolate and strawberry syrups. It made my morning!
My meeting load is light today so I may actually get caught up on a few things.

This is super common. For the European Union, your passport needs to be valid 3 months beyond the date that you will depart. Cyprus is 6 months beyond that date.
And the airline might approve the travel but make sure if she goes through customs in that country, they’ll approve it. I’d just get a new passport though. 😅
Good luck, beerlover. I'm nervous about my derm app't, but also eager to get some reassurance or take action, so I can't say I'm completely dreading it. But I have GAD and have feelings like yours about many things, so I can relate! I really hope it isn't as bad as you're expecting. A trip to TJ's sounds like a nice treat.
We're setting in at home again after being away for several weeks. We did have some vacation time in there, but it was mostly remote work while visiting family, so it's not as if I've been out of my general routine for a long time, and there's still something about this week that feels as though I'm wading through molasses. I only have one small pile of things left to put away, so I'm generally proud of how quickly we unpacked, and I grocery shopped yesterday, so those are two small wins! Tonight, I'm getting my hair cut, and I have a coffee date with a friend Friday afternoon. It's nice to have two relaxing things to look forward to!
I slept awful last night. DD2 (4.5) came in because she was scared. H just yelled at her to go back to bed, but I felt bad so I let her climb in with me. That was a huge mistake and I regret it. She's been an awful sleeper since birth and I'm so tired of it....
I was invited to a "wine night" as a get together for a new group of mom friends. I don't really drink wine. Is it ok to bring my own drink? It feels weird, but I hate drinking wine that I don't actually like. I'll probably just bring a 4 pack of ciders.
I get it beerlover, I had a gum graft and it was not fun. I don't go for follow-ups though, I just see my normal dentist. Good luck and definitely treat yourself after.

eddy - ditto this. It's not that it's a fake expiration date, it's that the other countries want to make sure that if you stay there for awhile, the US is going to let you back in and they won't be stuck with you lol
Establish a spot for the remote right from the beginning! Maybe attach to the wall.
Signed an annoyed wife who's H loses SO MANY things and we have a heater and fan that we can't find the remote to.....

It's actually a wall-mounted switch! But I hear you, we've got a few ceiling fans and those remotes DO NOT leave their brackets.

I had booked a mani/pedi last night for 5:15. There is one place I like to go, but the last two times the wait time has been super long past my appointment. I figured I would give them one more chance. Well…I got there at 5:12. At 5:20 no one was coming to help, but the receptionist said it would be 5 more minutes. At 5:30 no one was coming to help and I could see that all of the technicians were still in the middle of other clients. No one was close to being done. I had three other things I had to do before I went home and I had to be home by 7 so I chose to leave. The receptionist said she would comp my next mani/pedi but I told her I would feel like a fool for trying a fourth time for an on-time appointment given their track record. And now I’m feeling disappointed because I wanted a mani/pedi and I also don’t know where else to go - this place was good and convenient! Until they stopped honoring their appointment times. I wish she had called me at 5 and told me they were running late - I would have done my other errands, come back and been able to be home by 7. I’m still a little annoyed this morning.

Absolutely ok! If I were hosting a gathering this would be a nice cue to me on folks preferences!

Can you link the product you bought? We have so many pull chains lights in our house.
I'm in a weird headspace this week. I am simultaneously looking forward to my birthday weekend this weekend and my girls trip to Napa next weekend, but also work is stressful and I'm worried I'm going to forget to do something I need to do for this weekend and next and also how am I going to be 40 years old and what is life?

It is freezing in the office today. Why? I should have brought in a fleece.
My H and I are in a war with the neighborhood critters. We feed the birds, but the squirrels have been really greedy with our suet feeder and we are going through it too quickly, so I bought a higher pole to keep them off. That didn't work (though it caused some spectacular acrobatics!) so we bought a baffle to keep them off. Now we are pretty sure the racoons are taking the baffle down and stealing it anyway. This is all after we replaced our normal feeder with a squirrel proof one AND started feeding the squirrels corn separately in our backyard. I guess we are going to have to take down the feeders overnight. We just want the woodpeckers to visit! But it's become a battle of wills and they are winning.
My dad used to use a bebe gun to shoot at rabbits eating the garden, and my H and I thought he was nuts for doing that. We are starting to understand the urge now, lol. We will NOT do anything to harm them, but they are such cute little assholes!

I talked to 3 people about potential job opportunities last Friday. All said they would schedule interviews with me. I haven't heard from any of them. Patience is not one of my virtues.
I set up my digital planner yesterday and I'm liking it! I figured out how to add stickers and everything.
