This is my favorite sports month because for us, it is a whole lot of NOTHING! It's the magical month where we have basically nothing going on.
DD1 (15) - HS swim training won't start for her until mid September. She's been going to the gym, running, biking, to keep in shape and mostly just because she loves it.
DD2 (11) - Her summer diving season ends on Sunday with her last meet. Once school starts later this month try outs and training begin for the MS gymnastics team. She hasn't competed in years and this is the first year her school is offering a gymnastics team. No idea how that will go. We will see!
DD3 (7) - I signed her up for a B&G Club softball clinic. One day a week to just learn the basics, no games, and it starts late this month and goes through through late Oct. Swim season begins for her next month.
Our kids’ (huge- like 100 teams?) flag football league used to start in September and end in December, but this year they moved things up so games start 8/18 and are over earlier. That goes better with our school schedule but means practices are starting today and I’m not ready! The league started a new all girls flag football league and DD is playing (previously she played within the coed league). We didn’t sign DS1 up since his coach started taking it more seriously than he is ready for, and he’s got fall little league starting soon. His spring little league team with our good friend as coach decided to move to the other town league for the fall so the team can stay together. We really like the coach and kids so are excited about that.
We don’t know what DD’s softball (her main sport) will look like in the fall. She has to move up to 12U and her coach of the past 3 years is starting a travel team and holding open try outs so who knows if DD will make it. If she doesn’t, she’ll stay in the league she’s in now. The main 12U coach is a great guy, but shows a lot of favoritism toward his own daughters, who both like to play catcher, which is DD’s position. It wouldn’t be a bad thing for her to be forced into other positions and become more well-rounded, but then she might not end up making the all star team this year, which would disappoint her. So we’ll see.
All 3 older kids will play soccer as well starting mid august. It’s a pretty low commitment town rec league and most practices are at the school on our street. I expect DS2’s kindergarten soccer team to be pretty cute.
DD1 has gymnastics three nights/week and mountain biking 1-2 afternoons/week. DD2 has martial arts two nights/week and mountain biking one night/week.
School doesn't start for us until August 29th. Sports seem to be the one consistent thing during the summer. However, I find we miss more practices than I'd like to because of travel...eg. we will miss all next week and the following Monday because we will be in the PNW. It's tough. The girls have been really happy when we've been out of town or doing other fun things that keep them away from their sports practices. That being said, I don't want them to miss out on the opportunities because they haven't advanced as much as other kids have this summer. This is probably more in my head than a reality. It's summer. Lots of families travel. 🤪
Still summer schedule here for gymnastics. I did get good news on Sunday and the new coach we've started private lessons with a couple weeks ago wants to continue you them during the school year. I was only expecting summer because her real job is teaching but she asked us if we were open to mid Sunday mornings to meet. DD is super excited because this coach makes her feel like she can do anything.
dglvrk2, we have a few girls kind of freaking out right now because skills aren't coming and they are taking most of August off due to vacations. One girl took 6 weeks off and does it every summer to visit relatives overseas. There is so much stress going on when she gets back. It doesn't help that she can't work out where she is visiting.
(I also posted this in ML randoms but this is worth a double post for me!
I got some FABULOUS news today that I gotta share!! My daughter made the JV volleyball team for high school!!! WAHOO!!! She has been working so hard all summer (going to the "optional" workouts), and I'm so glad she is rewarded for her hard work. Her BFF also made the team. They are both just going into 9th grade so there are lots of new things happening!
I played Vball and soccer all throughout high school so I am just over the moon excited for them.
DD's school also doesn't start until 8/28, but the volleyball teams has been doing "optional" workouts all summer, and they have their 1st game in about 10 days!! I find it interesting they are going to be playing at least a few games before school even starts?! I also played fall Vball in high school, but I don't remember us having actual games before school even started???
Not to leave DS out, ha! He is playing rec soccer this fall, and his practices start in about 2 weeks. He is excited. He tried out for 2 different challenge teams but didn't make it. I am glad he at least tried out so that we could get a feel for how those tryouts go. He loves soccer so much!!
soccermama, high school fall sports officially start 8/14 here with the first games happening the week of 8/28. We don't start school until after Labor Day. Congratulations to your DD!

Our magical month is May...lol. Normally DS has hockey until late March/early April (depending on easter) and then starts up again in mid June. We should be getting his practice schedule for August soon and games start the weekend after labor day. Captains practices for high school start the week before labor day, but they have been doing optional cardio workouts for the last few weeks.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Dd2 has only had one soccer practice all summer, and no plans for another which is a-ok with me! She typically starts practice in July and goes through August with games in early sept. But I’m happy for her to keep enjoying summer before the madness starts.
This fall dd2 will play on 3 soccer teams - school, club, and rec. school plays 5 days a week - practice or games M-F. Rec practices 1-2x per week with games on Sat. Club is 2x per week with games on Sun. Soccer 7 days a week for 2.5 months. Yikes.
DD1 is thinking of playing field hockey. All middle school sports are no-cut so she could try anything, but she seemed to like field hockey, so we will see. Other options are soccer (hates it), cross country (too much running), or volleyball. I just hope she meets some nice kids.
DS1 we had his sprained ankle looked at and it is not fractured! Yay. He shpild be able to start football on time but they did recommend PT for a month.
DS2 is practicing hard for demo (karate) and they have the performances on 8/20, 8/28 and 9/3!
He also start cross country soon (they start before school starts).
It’s also our month off. We are currently on a ten day road trip through Michigan. It’s so nice having a break. Swim team starts after Labor Day for my 14 and 8 year old. My youngest is also doing a dance team that starts at the end of the month. Luckily, its practices are at a nearby school. I’m really excited to get back into a workout routine. I joined a gym close to the girls’ natatorium, so I’m hoping to workout during their practices.

School starts today. Middle school has 4 sports — one very term — and DD1 is only interested in track and maybe volleyball so nothing for her this first term at least, which is soccer. She did stay in the morning running club which will start up again in a few weeks.
We decided against softball for DD2. The schedule was too much and she only wanted to join really because her best friend plays. I promised more BFF visits instead. She did tentatively sign up for developmental swim team. Assuming she passes whatever stroke test they have next week she will be starting that before the end of the month. She also does school running club but she is very social and expect there is more walking and chatting than running, lol.

We are full swing in soccer now with 5 practices a week which means we probably won’t make futsal now due to conflicts. Racing is also full steam and ds1 started middle school so we will see if he wants to pick up any of the school sports.
We don't start school until after Labor Day, but I just got an email from DD2's club coach that the first practice is 2 weeks from today.
He also published the game schedule - just dates, opponents, and locations - no times yet. Normally she plays every Sunday for that club.
I have one weekend in September when EVERYTHING is happening. We have a huge golf tournament on Friday, then that evening my kids have their first dance. That Saturday DD2 will have a town rec game, then it's homecoming at their school, so it's possible that they'll have games there as well. My 30 year reunion is that evening.
According to DD2's club schedule, she is not just playing that Sunday, she has a game on Saturday as well.
Because OF COURSE SHE DOES. At least the games are close by...
Tutor is available Mondays and Wednesdays. Which one would you pick? I would like the 5-6pm timeslot.
My wallet doesn't mind if we skip Monday holidays. I was leaning towards Wednesdays because it was mid week help. DH mentioned Mondays would set him up for success for the week. I like the idea of getting it over with and being lighter later in the week. Ultimately, I am not sure it makes a huge difference unless there is not enough work on Monday nights, but she may be able to mitigate that by looking/ working ahead.
DS has practice at 7:30-9 on those nights.
I am waiting to hear when Band pick up will be (afterschool). Last year, band was on Wednesdays and pickup was 5 pm. But this year he said shorter practices and more frequent which I don't love. So another con against Wednesdays. Looks like band could be any day it wants to be with a pick up of around 4:15 or 4:30.
waverly, I would do Wednesday and use it as a mid-week check in. I feel like Monday nights he might not have anything to work on and if his teachers are like DD's then she can't ever work ahead. What day does your DS want to meet with her?

DS's soccer starts today. it conflicts with futsal, so he'd officially done with futsal. DD (surprisingly) wants to finish off the session. So it will be a dash to get her dropped off at the community center at 5, DS over to soccer at 5:30, and then back to the community center at 6 (if DH's bus isn't back on time.) I would not be surprised if she decides not to go after today - with regular season starting up, my guess is that a LOT of kids will need to drop out. I also wouldn't be surprised if she loves it because she'll get more focused attention from the coach.
DD's sync team's competition in October is apparently being dropped. She'd also anticipated doing her first solo, but the coaches aren't going, so I guess that's that? I'm somewhat happy about it, since it overlapped with a school event, but bummed that they're going from two competitions down to one... so all that money for a costume that gets almost no use.
Well, in a very interesting turn of events, my husband is the new asst coach of the HS swim team. He’s played with the idea for years, but was actually approached by the head coach this week and 3 days later it’s a done deal. And it pays about 5x what we thought it would, which was shocking. So yeah, this should be fun! Lol!

DD2 had her first club soccer scrimmage this weekend. For only having 2 practices this summer, they did really well - 2-1 loss. They'd never played in a 9v9 formation - had been playing 7v7 for the past 3 years. I was impressed.
DD2 did well playing defense. The other team only scored when she and her line were off the field. There were a few new kids that have been invited to practice with the team, so the coach threw them into the scrimmage. Those kids haven't played club before and they just didn't seem used to the pace. But they did their best and seemed to have a good time.
I only have 1 out of 4 sports schedules for this fall. I have heard through the grapevine that all rec soccer games in DD2's division start at 8am every Saturday morning, which means a 7:30 arrival. Should be an interesting fall!
Sports schedule feels really good right now. Ds does karate twice a week and DD does field hockey twice a week. There’s only one night of conflict, and I can always seem to figure it out between family or teammates. The nights little DS has karate, I can work out at the gym. The night that she has field hockey, boyfriend meets us and little DS gets on his scooter and we run 3 miles.
Boyfriend brought his gym equipment to the house so oldest son is focusing on bulking this fall and enjoys going out to the garage to lift by himself.
Now that fall soccer has started for my 3 older kids, and DD's softball is ramping up, things are getting crazy. DD has softball, soccer, and flag football. Both older boys just have soccer right now, but DS1's fall baseball will start soon. We're really lucky that we can make it work with both DH and me around most afternoons/evenings, good carpools, and almost everything being pretty close to our house (most soccer practices are walking distance). But OMG the mental load/logistics.
