I’m interested to see what will happen in Mississippi. I had no idea a democrat was in play in the governor’s race. Tate Reeves is awful, but that’s never been an impediment for Republican voters.
I’m so disappointed about Mississippi. Voter suppression is a real bitch. It was incredible to see a viable Dem candidate for Governor though, and I’m hopeful that it will be followed by energy for more of the same.
This was one of our big elections this year (off cycle is usually boring but our issues were main campaign issues and the state is a priority) and while it’s heartbreaking to keep the status quo - especially Reeves who is just evil - I feel pretty good about the cycle writ large.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
We also had a critical school board election-- there was actually a thread here a while ago about the unhinged mailers the Rs were sending about book banning. Our district has been in national news a lot the last few years.
Turnout was huge. I think I waited longer to vote yesterday than for the presidential election.
5 of the 9 seats were up for vote, and D's won them ALL. I'm honestly tearing up. It was more than I could have hoped for.
It's a big one in VA, all state senate and house of delegates seats are up, plus school board and county executive board, and a handful of seats like sheriff and commonwealth attorney.
I'm nervous for the balance of power in the senate and house, dems have a narrow majority in one and reps do in the other. With Youngkin currently governor I would feel a lot better with both chambers controlled by dems.
CNN is showing Ds leading in both right now!
They had called the state senate by the time I went to bed, but it was great to wake up to the news that dems had taken the house too! I'm thrilled with what this means for VA in the next two years, but also what it could be hinting at for national elections in the next cycle.
Super happy in Ohio here! Abortion rights protected, marijuana legalized and my school district kept the 3 right wing nutjobs off of our school board! 3 of 6 spots were open.

Ohio is the 24th state to legalize. At what point do they just legalize on a federal level? Even many states where it isn’t legal it has been decriminalized, it seems like it’s time.
My county had a renewal of a school funding levy on the ballot. I was very worried it would pass, it currently funds 20% of teacher positions. thankfully it sailed through, with over 70% voting yes. I am so relieved!

Yeah, it’s really not controversial anymore.

My husband said when he went to vote the Republican tabling there tried to hand him the sample ballot for school board and he said “I don’t vote for book banners!” They weren’t even running on book banning, just on the fact that our high school’s national ranking has slipped a little over the last few years.
It was a long but good day. I started the day at 6AM handing out Democratic sample ballots it was pretty slow for the first hour I think I handed out one ballot. I went for a run, then did some work. Then I was back at our polling place to volunteer at the PTA Bake sale. We had a pretty steady flow of people most of the morning. The weather was really great yesterday. Then picked up DS and drove him to meet a friend, then some more work and then back to the bake sale. Then back to work for the rest of the day. H and I finally got to voting around 530pm and happened to see one of the local candidates at our polling place. That was really neat.
We just need a good Democratic candidate and I think we definitely take back the Governor's seat.
I am in RI and we elected our first black congressman yesterday! I voted for him in the primary too I think he will be great. Locally we also passed a school bond in my town but it was close, it passed by only 120 votes.

I'm in NKY and am SO relieved we kept Andy. Everything else went Republican which is disappointing, but at least we have Beshear. I'm also super thankful Ohio did the right thing on both issues 1 and 2. The opposition was so loud and organized I was nervous. Today is a good day.

We didn't have an election in OR this year, but I was so happy to read about all the victories! I'm especially happy with VA and with school boards in R areas going D.
The results were so decisive that former US Sen. Rick Santorum lamented on Newsmax that when “you put very sexy things like abortion and marijuana on the ballot, a lot of young people come out and vote.”
“I thank goodness that most states in this country don’t allow you to put everything on the ballot, because pure democracies are not the way to run a country,” he added.
Philadelphia is about to elect its first female mayor!!
My small-ish midwest town just elected its first female mayor and she's a POC to boot. To say that my flabber is gasted would be an understatement. But it makes me hopeful! The D's unexpectedly swept my generally red city.

Yes, our new mayor is a Black woman and while she wasn’t my primary pick (she’s a bit less progressive than me), I’m thrilled and I think she is a good choice for the city.

Thank GOD. Our school board was also swept by Dems, even though one of the candidates sadly passed away about 10 days ago. The board will vote on someone to fill the position now.
Also, to follow up on your post about Parker winning the Philly mayoral race - she’ll be the 100th mayor and first woman! And 4th Black mayor. I think she’s currently at about 73% of votes, which is unsurprising.

We had a major election for county sheriff. We are trying to vote out the incumbent who is a Trumpy a-hole who mishandled Covid restrictions and re-hired fired cops and all kinds of messy things.
It looks like the D-leaning, highly educated, female opponent has won and I am SO excited!!
I posted before about our local mayoral race. The incumbent did indeed lose 😩 and the big-business money backed candidate did win. Not good for the town. I'm very disappointed.
The school had two referendum items. One passed, the other failed. Also very disappointing. The second that failed was to provide technology funding. Average tax increase was $1 per year. I am so mad that it failed.
I'm equal parts shocked and impressed by my hometown school district (Pennridge). I woke up to a text from one of my best friends from high school about it, and he usually sends me articles about how bad it's getting. (We both live out of state now.) I saw a ton of republican yard signs when I was visiting last week, so it's just that much sweeter.

Yay! I'm in King, but right on the line. I saw very few signs for Johnson, but one of the one near Alderwood had another sign posted near with arrows on it reading "real police" and one near Fortney reading "Rlly? Puhleeze"
Our school board election was a lot less contentious than 2 years ago. One of the candidates seemed very qualified and reasonable and held a lot of community meet and greets, but I just saw who was supporting her and voted No. I don't think she's a M4L type and she sought no endorsements, but are they getting stealthier? I wasn't willing to find out.
