I did see Margaret cho once (gift ticket) and it was great.
I saw bob saget ages ago, back in college, and it was terrible.
My view of stand up is probably similar to community theater. I'm happy you're out there and doing your thing, but my German embarrassment kind of gets in the way
I've seen Trevor Noah-- he was fantastic. I don't mind most stand up but it is very hit or miss.
Years ago we went to a comedy club in NYC and Tracy Morgan did a surprise set. He was terrible LOL. It was cool to say we'd seen him live but he mostly just said Fuck over and over for 15 minutes and expected people to laugh. The scheduled comics were not nationally known but were mostly writers for various NY-based shows and were really good.
I get recommended videos for Jeff Arcuri and Kristin Key a lot.

His HBO special, The Great Depresh, is a bit dark but definitely worth a watch.
We saw this show live at a small venue in Dallas. We are huge fans of his.
Our favorites are Jim Gaffigan, Wanda Sykes (she has two Netflix specials out right now, one new and one a few year old, both great), Bryan Regan, John Mulaney and Nate Bargatze. We don't go to concerts, we go to comedy shows!

Did anyone watch the Robin Williams stand up special. It might have been on HBO, but my family didn't subscribe so it probably played elsewhere, too.
He went into a long bit about giving oral sex to a woman. Sure, it was funny, but watching with your dad is not. I was in my early 20s at the time. That's how I feel about much of stand up. I have embarrassment on behalf of others.
And then I question if it's ok to laugh at jokes based on a race or culture that I'm not part of. But I might have vicarious experience. It's too much stress.
But I'll watch them in TV in my own home! I'm not devoid of humor.
We just saw him live this fall and we had driven to Columbus, OH, picked up my best friend on the way, to see a show of very left leaning line up of comics. The room was energized because it was people that just seemed thrilled not to be around Trump supporting neighbors for a little while. Trae was the headliner and all the comics were good. I’d see him again. I had not been to a live show in more than a decade. I would see Trevor Noah.
I'm glad to read so many of you also like Margaret Cho. I wasn't sure if anyone remembered her or watched her. I've never seen her live but I always liked whatever I saw of her on TV. It was strange to see an Asian American in any kind of national entertainment in the spotlight including comedy so I always felt a little bit of "yeah, go Margaret!" when I'd see her.
We really enjoy comedy shows! Some of the ones we’ve like: Mike Birbiglia (also read all his books, seen the movies, and regularly listen to his podcast, which has been a good way to learn about other comics I didn’t know) Pete Holmes (mostly listen to his podcast and haven’t seen him live - he is definitely a bit much at times tho) Chelsea Handler Iliza Shlesinger Nicole Byer Atsuko Okatsaka Craig Robinson Taylor Tomlinson Hanna Gadsby Tig Notaro Ali Wong Melissa Villaseñor Vanessa Gonzalez And more (some of which were also already mentioned)
