This! Take Virginia back off your list if you want cooler weather. I spent a summer in DC and the air quality was not good.
Oh DC, definitely not, but I’ve traveled around other parts of Virginia in the summer and it wasn’t bad. Warm, but not really awful.
Idk maybe I am misremembering, or maybe it’s just what I’m used to, but we have settled on Colorado anyway. We haven’t decided on whether it’ll be a month stay or just a slightly-long vacation, but we have at least have a destination!
Colorado will be amazing for you guys. Much more different than Florida. And yeah you are probably used to the hot weather. We are definitely not up here!

What part of Colorado? It was not what I thought when I first went. Estes park is the picture perfect mountain town that you think of when you think of the Rockies, east is as flat as Kansas, Colorado Springs is closer to what I had pictured Arizona. It's really a cool place with very diverse landscape. I wasn't used to everything being so far apart either. In the east if you are willing to drive, you can hit several places in one trip, not the case in the west I learned.

rere, I’m not sure yet. I am open to suggestions. As of now the very vague plan is to base ourselves in Denver where we have friends. I have been to Denver and Colorado Springs a few times for work so I’m somewhat familiar but outside of that area the state is a mystery to me. We will definitely take some weekdays off work to visit the Rocky Mountain National Park (I know it gets crowded in the summer), we will take the kids to Garden of the Gods, we will do the Mint and in-city stuff. I want to go up to Boulder as well. I’ve not been there.
I need to poll everyone and see what they’d like to see — mountain towns? desert? The kids have never seen one. I think we will have our car and our dog, so that opens up a little road tripping but puts some limits on our flexibility, though our friends might indulge in some dog sitting here and there.
My husband has long wanted to move to Denver so if we decide to do a long stay part of the trip is to really settle in like locals and see if we can really envision ourselves moving across the country. So it won’t be quite as entertainment-packed as it would be if we went for a week and flew in and out.
librarychica Denver is pretty central to Estes Park and Colorado Springs. I loved Estes Park. We went over to Grands Lake, but I wished we had more time than an afternoon. We did the national park two days and it was awesome. Parking is the problem for the major lakes and hikes.I would have liked to explore Boulder, but we just drove through. I wasn't as enamored with Colorado Springs but Pikes Peak and Garden of the God's are a must see once. There are some cute towns we stopped and ate coming back to Colorado Springs after Pikes Peak.
I've heard amazing things about Telluride, but distance and time didn't allow for our last trip.
