I am trying to prepare us all for a very possible outcome, no matter how much we don't like it or can't believe it can happen. As the motto goes, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Look, I am not convinced Biden is going to win and am super anxious about Trump getting elected, but I’m not sure what you’re reading here that indicates that’s what is going to happen.
ETA - I mean it shows the absolute corruption of the GOP for sure, but we knew that already.
The Nevada elections were sabotaged by the GOP, with a split caucus and primary that was confusing and nonsensical. It was a shit show designed to disenfranchise voters and ensure the party picked the nominee no matter what. Not only did it make a mockery of the process, it was a blow to our general democracy and citizens faith in our system of free and fair elections.
Freaking out about GOP nonsense isn't helpful. Being informed about the fuckery they are causing and informing others that the GOP is actively trying to destabilize and destroy our democracy is better than hoping for the best.
If you responded that you know it is possible, then you're not the audience for my post. I got a feel (yes, completely non-scientific) from a year of posts that there might still be people here that really don't think he could win (especially people in blue bubbles). In 2016, week after week, many people (or maybe just me?) still didn't think he would win, all the way up to election night. My weak evidence here was to start a chain of notes, that week to week we might see things like things in 2016 and some people will again think it won't happen.
I'll be flat out blunt that I think he will win. That's not hysteria, it's an attempt to remind people to not be shocked again if they were in 2016.
I agree with the insights from PPs. This will be hard, it's good to be educated on what's going on, and there will be fuckery. The Nevada article wasn't to be thorough but to mention it in case people hadn't heard.
Might win isn't the same as will win. We all know he could win, as he did it once before. It's hard enough getting people interested in this geriatric election cycle; acting like defeat is an eventuality isn't helpful.

Yes of course it's a possibility. 2016 certainly taught us not to be complacent that sanity will prevail.
Ngl, I've had a couple marriage offers if that happens, to give me a legal way to stay away. This is from people not very politically engaged especially about international politics, but I share that to illustrate how far the fear/hysteria has reached. I even have a friend whose mom encouraged him to protect me in that way, and she's quite conservative and traditional, and I'm an old lady who doesn't want children, about the same distance from her age as from her son.
It will be a wild next few months. I'd like to just be in an enjoyable coma like state until then and we know the outcome
I’m mentally planning for him to win and hoping to be pleasantly surprised that Biden is still our president #helpful
Same here. I didn’t believe people were that ficking stupid in 2016, but the past 8 years have taught me they are.
The *only* highlight of him winning would be that he couldn’t run again and I hope to never see his face again. I will repeat this to myself every day of his presidency if he wins.

I don’t believe for a second that we’ll have another election to vote in if he wins.

You don’t actually believe that he will abide by the constitutional amendment of term limits, right?
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

What do you mean by this? You mean no more presidential elections will happen after his presidency or just no more elections all together?

He has already said he would be a dictator on day 1. I suspect he would find an excuse to cancel elections to avoid losing power. And I especially think it’s true based on how he reacted after losing the election in 2020.

Ahh got it. I wonder why he didn’t do that when he was already president? I wonder what happens after he dies!

I honestly felt like he was making moves towards it when he was President, but was trying to be more subtle to be re-elected. I don’t think he has considered when he dies.

He tried! He incited a riot to prevent Pence from counting the legitimate electoral votes. Pence stood up against him, and was backed by other high-profile Republicans. Will people with that fortitude be in positions of power in 2028 if he wins? I don't know.

I meant the part about no more elections that I quoted! Obviously I know about the riots after the elections! But I was wondering about the efforts to not allow anymore elections, like the person I quoted mentioned. Like if he had planned to try to pass legislation that would get rid of elections everywhere before they happened in states, that’s why I was asking what they meant.
ETA: I’m asking because not that I’m burying my head in the sand, as I know he could get elected again, but I’m paying literally zero attention to what he is currently saying. So I didn’t know if he had specifically mentioned this specifically as part of his plans to cancel elections or change legislation about elections or change term limits, etc going forward after he wins. I didn’t know if this was a strategy that he’s telling his followers in order to get elected.

He/MAGA are also telling his supporters that if Biden gets elected it’s the last free election.

This week he managed a major power flex/loyalty test that spooked me further. He had his branch of the party demand unreasonable immigration reforms to pass a bill for Ukraine/Israel support. The bipartisan committee basically acceded to his demands, then he managed to sink the bill anyway. He was testing how strong he is, and he won in that. The claim is that he wants immigration as a talking point through November, but it seems more like he’s testing how strong he is and he won this test, which is scary. The same people who caved to him on this when he doesn’t currently even hold a position within our government suggests his power is untold. That combined with his public vow to become a dictator on day one absolutely foretells him ending elections if given the opportunity, and that the opposition is too weak to stop him.
This quote really hits hard because we are already doing this.
“Experts at the Brookings Institution explain that democracies usually break down gradually into authoritarian rule. The process is “dangerously deceptive.” People still vote, but legislatures and courts rule that efforts to subvert democracy are legal.”
I think it’s critical to remain level-headed but realistic about this over the next year. Is it a sure thing Trump will be elected? No. Could he be? Yes, and we need to do everything we can (postcards, calls, helping people get to the polls, etc.) to ensure that doesn’t happen.

I was going to say this. I sometimes fb stalk a local gun shop that has far right followers. Many of the things in this thread are things they are saying about Biden.

What is their logic for why Biden doesn’t just end democracy right now since he actually has the presidency, unlike their whiney baby guy who lost big last time?

Well TBF they believe that Biden already has. (Or at least started). Trump tells them that undocumented people are voting in droves, that democrats are changing the voting laws to suppress conservatives from voting, you can’t trust the polling places/machines/counters.
Just a note: I don’t believe any of this, in case that isn’t clear!
