Thanks for the head pats, I’m just so whiney about it all! It’s going to be a great overnight! It’s natural disaster themed and we’re ending it with an emergency preparedness project at the local animal shelter. Even puppies and kitties can’t keep them from flaking.
We are bridging to Cadette this year and that’s when there’s usually a pretty big attrition and people start leaving because GSs isn’t “cute” anymore. As much as I want our troop to stay as is, I’m hoping the families that make me feel like shit are the first to find the door. Otherwise, I’m showing myself out!
Someone at school drop off this morning was driving a new G wagon. We live in a middle class area and 99% of people drive Subarus or Honda type cars so it definitely stuck out.
I need to take DS2 to an eye specialist this week, he has an eye that kind of drifts sometimes. I really hope they don’t try to get him to wear a patch to treat it (do they even do those anymore?) because I know it would be a total battle.
They do still do patching. My kid did it for about 3 years and my friend has a kid who is doing it currently. If you do have to go that route I have tips to share LOL
Realized that being away for Easter means I DON'T HAVE TO COOK FOR EASTER!!!!!!!! Now how do I make a little Easter basket for my son that I can hide in my carryon? LOL
When we have traveled for Easter, I bought the felt baskets that fold/scrunch up. I also premade the basket insides- filled the eggs with jelly beans, chocolates, $/toys- and put them in large ziplock with the grass. That way I didn't take time away from our vacation.
I also tried to make things heavily edible and coupons for things while on the trip. Less to bring home.
Have fun!
Do you know where you got the basket? I don't know if I've actually seen one.

I will definitely ask for tips if we need to do it! Thanks!

Apparently I'm full of randoms today.
This weekend FI and I got dressed up, then went and played mini golf. We had a (1) drink at home while we got ready, went and played 18 holes of mini golf, then got cheesecake on the way home. It was a fantastic date that cost $27.
I am so mad today in anticipation of the time change this weekend.
If I don't learn how to fucking sleep by then, I'm just going to stay up all night and start over. I do not spring forward, I get dragged forward kicking and screaming.
Is anyone else's kid just super grumpy after school? I had always knew/heard that it was rough in Kindergarten, but my first grader is just an emotional disaster after school sometimes and is so grumpy/rude. Doesn't want to answer any questions about his day, doesn't want to do anything, responds in a salty manner to basically everything I say, cries easily, its so hard to deal with sometimes! Like, I've missed him all day and want to hear how things went and he wants nothing to do with me, lol.
Awww, I'm sorry. I do remember around that age, David would just be DONE by the time I picked him up. The school days especially around that age are really long for them. I'd just give him some space and talk about his day after dinner when he's had some time to decompress. Even now, David's 15 and he's either silent on his phone on the ride home or he's talking my ear off. I just follow his lead. Usually when I've had a long day, I'm not in the mood to talk either.
eta: oops, I see it's been covered. I skimmed but missed the responses.

Somehow the spring forward always seems way worse than the fall back. It always takes forever for my body to adjust. I'm not looking forward to next week.

I do think the days are really long for these kids. It's different than when we were in school! They seem like they are solidly working or getting instruction all day long minus recess/lunch. Sometimes I'll ask DS questions like "oh, did you chat with this kid about X" and he'll be like "we really don't have any time to talk!" lol.
Be aware that if you, external lawyer, send a locked document to me out of the blue "for your client's signature" it will not deter me from offering edits because I'm not an idiot. Especially when your client wants something from my client.

Yes! Which is a huge difference from kindergarten, at least it was for David. He loved going to school when he was in kindergarten but everything abruptly changed in first grade. It really made me sad for him.

completely random rave: I bought myself a Canon Ivy printer for my birthday. I love it! IT prints out little 2x3" prints that are just perfect for my journaling purposes. And that's exactly what I wanted it for. Love when that works out!

I've never heard of this but it looks super cute for crafts and journaling! Does it print on stickers? Is the paper super expensive? I may need one to play with.

we noticed that this year as well. S says he hates school and doesn't want to go, when we press him on why he says he just doesn't get as much play time. I mean, when I go in as a volunteer it seems a lot of time is play time or fun, but yeah, they have higher expectations of them sitting still for longer, the "quiet corner" is more of a timeout rather than a safe space, etc.

It prints on stickers, yes! I got a bundle with the printer and 110 sheets for $149 from Amazon.

DS's teacher is very strict too and he has to "move his clip" on the behavior chart for really dumb things like tapping his pencil on the desk or whatever. I would guess all day of being micromanaged like that would get to you, too.
I love spring forward! The extra sunlight more than makes up for the lost hour to me.
It’s not extra sunlight, it’s just sunlight at a different time!
Signed, DST hater lol

Also not that serious here- I don’t care about extra sunlight or sunlight at a different time just stop freaking going back and forth. This is madness. We are trying to live in a society here!

Surprising, nothing yet this year. I am going to bet it was either Walgreens or Michaels. More leaning towards Walgreens if I recall.

I had planned to run a spring half marathon and a fall half marathon in 2024, before targeting fall 2025 for my first full marathon.
I am feeling a little frustrated with my life (mostly professionally) and haven't signed up for the fall 2024 half yet. The thought has entered my mind... what if I accelerated the timeline for a fall 2024 full marathon?
I'm itching to feel excited about something, and I'm not sure another half is it, as excited as I was in fall 2023 to do my first half since pre-kids. If anyone wants to weigh in on where I should be, before considering starting training for a first full, I welcome the input and insight. I have a little time, while I train for my April half.

I think there are studies that show how bad it is to lose or gain the hour. More car accidents, physically taking the body up to a week to adjust (even "just" one hour), it's not worth the trouble. I love summer, love the "extra" light, but I don't think we still need to do this.
If we must do it however then we need to build a national holiday in to the day after DST both in March and the fall to allow (just about) everyone a day to catch up on sleep ::gavel::
That backfired on us last year though. We traveled when DST ended because it was the only time that worked. We had to get up at 3 AM to catch a flight, and it really made me extra tired on vacation, like more tired than just a normal 3 AM wake up would.
I am probably going to be a mess with time in the next few weeks - we have the time change and then I'm going to Italy for my class so I'll have weird sleep on an overnight flight next Friday night, too. And then I'm always jet lagged when I come back to the US. It's my least favorite part of travel since I can't sleep on planes.
