My former cat (may she rest in peace) used to drink from the water glass next to my bed (& my H). Nothing spins your brain like waking up from a dream and trying to commit “don’t drink from the glass, the cat just sipped from the glass” like that noise. So, we bought dedicated sports bottles for the night stands. We still use them.
Also, I get very anxious when I don’t have water, or quick access to it. On vacations I have to buy adequate water, and in group situations I don’t share, I buy my own!
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I think Boomers are just very dehydrated. I remember my mom was like 60 and her doctor told her to drink more water and she was shocked at how light her pee was lol
Lol my mom is always telling me how her doctor says she's dehydrated but "there's no way" because of how much water she drinks. Whenever Im with her though for a day she drinks at least 5-6 cups of coffee, and one maybe two 16oz bottles of water the whole day.
Yes - I keep my “upstairs Stanley” on my nightstand. When I wake up in the morning I grab it and immediately drink about half. You need to hydrate first thing!

my nightstand is normally for my ipad, phone, kleenex, remote control and water. I take pills at night - so bring my water glass in with me and keep it by my bed. I normally don't use it overnight - but sometimes so it's good to have.
I don’t but I don’t think it weird to do so. I try really hard to stay hydrated during the day. I can’t say I’ve woken up middle of the night and felt dehydrated except when I’m hungover.

I think it’s also just much more common now for people to always have water available, all the time. When I was a kid we never brought water bottles to school. Heck, I don’t even remember bringing a water bottles to sports practices. If we were thirsty there were water fountains.
But now I don’t even leave the house without bringing a full water bottle with me. I don’t usually drink all of it, but it’s nice to have water to sip in the car.

I honestly think she’d drink a single glass of water/milk/soda with each meal and that would be it! Maybe an extra glass of water if she’d been doing yard work or exercising. And she’d swear that was plenty! Your mom is a model of hydration in comparison lol
I have a cycling bottle filled half way with water on my night stand.
A quick aside last night I woke up and noticed that my alarm clock (very Gen-X of me-no phone in the BR) was off, but the power was on. My water bottle had fallen off of the night stand and hit the power switch on the power strip. One quick push, and my alarm clock was back on. Of course this happens at 4 am....

DH, DS, and I do not, but my DD always has a water bottle. For her, I think it is a security blanket of sorts as she has always been a huge water drinker.

Also even if I don’t wake up in middle of the night I like to have water when I wake up in the morning. The whole getting ready process takes about 30 minutes before I get to the kitchen. In my apartment it’s not a big deal to go to the kitchen since it’s right there but in our 3 story row house, nope, I don’t go downstairs until I’m ready for breakfast and to leave. I def need water when I wake up!
DD and I both do. We both just use whatever tumbler of the day.usually our Stanley’s because they are still cold in in the morning and that’s always the first thing I want when I wake up, lots of cool water!
I don't unless I'm sick. My parents were always strict about no food or drinks in bedrooms so I guess it stuck. The cats aren't allowed in the bedroom (one pees on things) but when they were, they absolutely would have drank out of an open cup or knocked it over!

Yup. My H and I each have a water bottle that we have next to our beds. I grew up with a glass of water next to my bed and my parents each have water next to their beds. We all take our pills at night so it makes it easier. I also tend to wake up in the middle of the night to wee and take a sip of water.

For those that did have water at their bedside as kids at least when you were young, weren't your parents concerned about bedwetting even long after it wasn't an issue? That was my parents reasoning not just for no water at the bed but no water shortly before bedtime. That's probably a boomer thing they learned from their own parents as I remember my nana being really strict about that the once a year she'd visit.
My boomer parents do always have a water cup going, to address boomer dehydration. My dad is constantly kvetching that his wife will see his cup, unattended, and put it in the dishwasher. All throughout my childhood I'd hear him yell from another room Joanna, where's my water? lol But I don't think at their bedside.
My parents were definitely no food or drinks outside the dining room/kitchen parents but I think they made an exception for my water. I never wet the bed that I know of. DS did but we stopped limiting his liquid once he was over that. He basically just woke up one day and never wet the bed again and nothing we did before or after that made any difference at all. 🤷🏻♀️
Everyone in my family always has water near their bed. H has a specific covered tumbler that he uses, and the kids and I use water bottles that close.
I don't always drink it in the middle of the night, but almost always do when I wake up in the morning. And then I have water at the ready for when I have to take my thyroid meds in the morning too.
My kids definitely do drink water if they wake up in the middle of the night, but most of the time it's still pretty full the next day. But they both always ask for it at bedtime.

No, my parents weren't, but I was a special snowflake who never wet the bed or had an accident. But also, water wasn't a thing when I was a kid!

I did not do this until I met my husband in 2010. He'd always done it, and now it seems totally normal. Yetis to keep it cold all night. I have a kid's Yeti that I take camping.
Now that I'm older, I wake up with the worst dry mouth. Which is ironic because I'm sweating like a menopausal f*cking pig. Hey stupid body, distribute your fluids more efficiently!
