Itās 10:30 and my kid is still sleeping. We donāt do Easter baskets. I did ask if the bunny still hides eggs for 16 year olds and she looked at me like I was crazy. Of course he does!!!

Low key day here, my mom is staying with us while she recuperates from surgery. I moved along from Easter baskets a few years ago for my 5th grader. We are just playing board games today and will take a walk later.
I forgot it was Easter and couldn't figure out why Costco's gas pumps were closed on my way to work. As a tax accountant we only really do Easter if it falls after the 15th. Thank goodness DD is almost 13 and has aged out of all the bunny and egg hunts. I do need to shop so hopefully something is open at 4 this afternoon so I can get food for the week.
I'm contemplating calling people later this afternoon to tell them their taxes are ready for pick up. We have a busy Monday morning between appointments and payroll so if I don't do it today it won't get done until tomorrow afternoon. Something to think about...
My 10 year old was up at 6 to dig into his Easter basket. My 5 year old (who goes to Jewish preschool and isnāt bombarded with Christian holidays) slept in until 9. We missed church this morning, but rolled up in time for the egg hunt. š
H is making kielbasa and mashed potatoes and corn for Easter lunch. š
No Easter egg hunt here, which was always fun with my kids when they were young.
I do believe in the reason behind Easter, but attending church on Easter Sunday is not my bag. I am going to see "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" in an hour and have some Easter popcorn.
"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
Waiting for the teens to wake up hereā¦ Easter for us means baskets and family time. We arenāt religious. We will go to my SILās house around lunch time.
This cabin rental has turned into a nightmare. Itās so bad Iām debating disputing with my cc company. We found out today that the dishwasher is broken. After it was full. The check out instructions says to run in when you leave, so like, what have the people here before us been doing?
Then we went to do a hike and the trail is closed from fires. I had no idea. My poor kid was not pleased.
She did enjoy her basket, but not the weekend any of us had planned.
Iāve only rented an Airbnb a couple of times and from what I recall there was no dishwasher. Iāve always just made sure to wash everything by hand and not leave dirty dishes in the sink. So if I were at a place where the dishwasher was broken I would wash everything by hand, so I assume thatās what people who are courteous would do. I personally wouldnāt be that upset about a broken dishwasher but what else has gone wrong?
Pretty low-key day for us. Ds (11) asked what we were going to do for Easter since oldest kid didn't come home this weekend. He said he wanted an egg hunt, so I hid eggs last night and the Easter Bunny came, of course. I'm not sure if he still believes or not...he hasn't said anything about not believing but I'm sure his friends have said something about it. I didn't really plan a fancy meal but do have ham so I took that out to make later with mac n' cheese and broccoli.
I need to clean my house but I'll probably wait until tomorrow to do that when H and ds will be gone.
I'm probably going to get 3 - 4 more chickens so I need to go look at the coop with H to see what we can do to add more roosting bars. I'm hoping we can do that today.
DH managed to get some easter candy last night, so we still had baskets. I suppose once DD turns 18 maybe we'll stop giving her a basket.
I went to both Easter services at church because they needed choir members for the smaller early service. I'm not planning on making Easter dinner until later, so it's nice and low-key for now, since we don't have family around
I'm so glad I still have one day left of Spring Break, because I am not ready to go back to school tomorrow.

The broken dishwasher is just one of many issues. Every appliance has a problem and the fridge is barely cooling.
Iāve rented several varying properties, my bar is pretty average, but this is bad.
Iām just wondering if either no one knows itās broken or what, but a heads up would have sufficed. Esp when the directions are to start the dishwasher for the cleaning company to empty.
We are at my ILs for lunch and it is booooorrrring. I really wish we could do our own thing on holidays like this. My kids are trying to be good sports. We would have all been much happier if we could have stayed home today. Especially because we donāt get anytime off. But we also get such a guilt trip if we donāt come sit in their silent house. Sigh
My kids are definitely not believers in the Easter Bunny, but there were a ton of questions yesterday, when we had 17 hours of door to door travel, about whether or not he was coming to our house.
Thank God the me of a week and a half ago had her shit together enough to have all the eggs stuffed with candy before we went away! Took 5 minutes before crashing into bed to hide them all.
Random international travel question. On a flight that is a code share between united and Lufthansa, same price either way. Does it matter who I boo through? I feel like Lufthansa would give me more something, being not a US crap company.
H took Friday and Monday off this weekend. This is something I encouraged him to do in an effort to balance the stress of his job with some downtime every quarter.
He talked me into working four tens last week so that we would both have Friday off. And then he talked me into going hiking (very technical trail with lots of up/downs and over six miles) on Friday.
I'm still recovering. He ran the route twice! And then went for a "recovery run" (5.5 miles) this morning.
Here's my annoyance: He told me last night that I really need to make my health my number one priority. Taken at face value - not a big deal. And he's right. But I'm mad.
He has 2+ hours every damn day to go to the gym or run or do whatfuckingever. Good for him. My priorities tend to be food related. Like fixing breakfasts, meal planning, prepping and cooking dinner, cleaning up after and keeping the kitchen in some semblance of order. He doesn't think it's a big deal because he doesn't have to think about it. I just do it. He has that time because I'm doing ALL THE THINGS. And when I point that out? I'm "making excuses" and "being defensive" š
Today (whole he was out running), I cleaned the bathrooms for the first time this month. (I do wipe downs in-between deep cleans - we're not completely gross.) I also de-greased/cleaned the kitchen, washed cat blankets, and cleaned cat fountains. I'm about to get up to prep dinner (for a holiday neither of us truly observe). I'm tired. And I still have not started seeds for my garden. And the pollen is everywhere now so I really need to dust... I could ramble about everything on my to do list, but here's the point:
He is napping on the couch. I can almost guarantee he asks me to make breakfast tomorrow, even though he'll be off while I'm working. Anyway ...flames... coming out the side of my face...
To top that off, I made the mistake of logging in to FB. I have multiple family members who are borderline qanon and/or christo-nationalist/fascist. I felt better when I didn't know š

SwimDeep, offering solidarity. DH and I have had a few instances of needing to communicate in intense times, when I felt like you do, so he could understand everything on my plate and everything I am doing, which I generally don't mind doing until I need help or he makes a stupid comment. I hope you're able to share with him in a way that he can hear so you don't have to hold on to all of those feelings yourself. It's too much.
swimdeep I bet you got nearly as much activity doing housework as he did on his run. āPrioritizing hour healthā can look like a lot of things, and doesnāt have to look like going to the gym or going for runs. Unless you want it to! In either case, fuck him.

Got back home around 8pm, and I have laundry going because I'm turning around and flying to Lisbon with a friend tomorrow (have to leave the house at 10.30am). Ugh. I feel badly for the people who live in the attached house to us - at least the bedrooms aren't on the attached side.

We were out enjoying the weather with our daughter and decided to come to a Mexican restaurant. They forgot part of our order which was no big deal, but then they offered to bring us a shot as an apology. At first I told my partner to take it. But he said he didnāt want it. I just finished my margarita but yolo. He said heād take our daughter back for her nap while I take the shot and pay the bill. So now Iām just chilling a bit for some kid free time #winning
I still do Easter baskets and an egg hunt even though my kids are 12 and 16 - they are sports about participating lol. We ended up having a low key day because everyone is exhausted. DS1 and DH were at the U Conn/Illinois game and are depressed from it lol. I had friends over last night and drank too much red wine. So no one slept well. Having two birthdays and Easter in a 4 day period is too much for us apparently
I hosted a massive brunch and it was a great success. A few ups and downs this weekend but things are quiet now. People might be wondering about dinner later and I figure that I wonāt ever eat again.
Purdue won & they are going to the Final 4. That means a lot to my H. So, itās Alleluia all around today.

SwimDeep that's really shitty of him, I'm sorry. Of course, if you DO want him to do more of that stuff so you have more actual you time, this is the perfect way to start that conversation. "What you said really made me realize how little time I have for my own activities since I do all of these things for the household, and you're right, I do need to prioritize myself. Let's sit down and figure out how to redistribute."
rubytue I guess you can always check baggage policies, but odds are it's exactly the same and is sometimes slightly easier for stuff like seat selection if you buy through the airline actually operating the flight.

Went to my parents for dinner, had a lovely roast chicken and potatoes, spinach salad and some fruit. Easy, yummy, nice day out, DH took the kids to the park while it cooked.
My mom made the kids Easter baskets. She made us Easter paper bags. š she even put Easter grass in the bottom! And the kids are staying tonight too.
DH and I are going to wash & fold laundry, possibly wash the bedding. We live on the wild side! And DH is gone M-Th this week, and W-Sun the week after. Itās gonna be NICE!!!!
Such a random question, but what is up with FB these days? lol I rarely use it except for neighborhood groups, but just now I was scrolling and realized ALL I was seeing were posts from random accounts I donāt follow. They were all suggested or sponsored posts. I counted 33 before I hit an actual post by a person I follow. And then there would be anywhere from 8-15 in between every ārealā post. WTF.
We've had a pretty good Easter! Slept in, had some coffee, David did his scavenger hunt-to-basket tradition, then went to brunch at my favorite restaurant. I also got the Wordle on the third try.
I was feeling off last night and didn't have it in me to write the scavenger hunt for David so H did it using ChatGPT and it turned out SO GOOD and was done in like ten minutes. I'll definitely continue using that.
When we left our friends place we were swapping around leftovers so everybody would have a bit of everything, and when I asked where the hambone was, he said āoh I threw it away, did you want it?ā
šš
Iāve been looking forward to ham soup for weeks!!
H promised to go see if there are any hams left tomorrow, bless him.
Weāre Jewish, so no Easter here, but itās also strange that itās not Passover. This is a Jewish leap year, which means an extra month, not just an extra day. Passover doesnāt start for another 3 weeks.
Tomorrow is DSā birthday and I cannot believe heās turning 10. We were never set on only having one child, though through the years itās become apparent that this is definitely whatās best for our family. Iām having so many feelings about this big milestone. I feel like there are so many intense things ahead as DS becomes a teenager. I am loving this stage of life right now, though I think Iāve loved them all. My baby is so big!!

Noooooooo!!!!!! Damn!!! I love making soup using the ham bone. I remember making a thread titled something like "ham bone soup" and was teased greatly for it lol. It adds so much flavor!!! I'm sorry you have to find new friends and buy another ham..
