WTF is up with Nike these days. They made see through pants for MLB uniforms and now this. I saw that one dude’s pants split apart when he slid into a base. Malfunctions on this women’s kit would truly terrible.
Its undeniable the Team USA women's speed suit is problematic, but it's also not the only option the women have for racing kits.
Including similar version as the one Kenya showed. I know women who have raced for team USA this year, and they raced in the split shorts and jersey combo the Kenyan guy is wearing.
If the women don't want to wear this, they definitely have a choice of other uniforms.
I also watch track and field regularly and I've seen an iteration of this speed suit in the last year, and I've never seen a wardrobe malfunction with labia out lol. I've also seen Sha'carri Ricardson wear this with shorts underneath it and it was fine.
I think its...strange this uniform is the choice for track and field. It's not for performance, protection etc and it seems like it's for sex appeal. But it's also not the ONLY option.
However, this shows Sha’Carri Richardson wearing them with something underneath or otherwise modified:
And I am somehow not able to find it again, but I think they said the “purple” comes from the red and blue which are supposed to be highlighted extra special during movement.
WTF?!?! 😡 I can’t imagine running in basically a thong is comfortable. Nike should be ashamed of themselves.
A front thong, at that.
And why THE FUCK do the men get full coverage, including shorts, and women get....that? Like, women's legs also touch, even on elite athletes. The chafing. My god.

It’s ok, they typed all the things people wanted into AI and got a product. It can’t be bad.
“We’ve now been able to take athlete insights, along with data and use that algorithm to create something that allows us to get to a level of specificity, fidelity and accuracy that we’ve never been able to do before,” Nichol said.
I figured they had other options. However, this is what was released as their media pictures. Even layered it's dumb.
I'm just baffled how it even came to fruition. Surely there was a human somewhere along the way from paper to production who would say, nah, that needs a binkini wax. Disapprove. What's next?
You'd have to be close to fully waxed to wear that.
Are there rules about body hair for the Olympics that disqualify people?
Of course not, but most women are not going to feel comfortable walking around with their pubes out. Of course if someone does that's great for them, but the majority of us would be too self conscious about it and no doubt it would be talked about in the media.
I guess most Olympic runners don't have thighs that touch anyway, but my first thought was chafing. That looks sooo uncomfortable! I guess if there are options to wear shorts that's great, but that should be included in the announcement pics!
The kit exists because there are athletes that like that style and find it functional for their type of performance.
Here is a link to Tarra Davis. She's world champion and Olympic long jumper. She's repped by Lululemon--and they make their uniforms bespoke for their athletes. Here she is competing in a speed suit that's super similar. She chose it and is obviously proud and comfortable in it. It's functional for her event. Also no labia or ass cheeks are shown.
Also, the Kenyan debut of uniforms highlights that their team heavily leans towards distance events. Those are "distance" uniforms. Kenya doesn't have a lot of athletes in other events. Their power is in distance and that's what distance people choose.
The us debut highlights the diversity of strengths in the team makeup. That speed suit is for sprints and jumps. Not distance. .
The men's uniform is for all events. The us has a huge track and field team..they chose the sprints and jump uniform to highlight that (especially since we bring home medals in those events)

One of the definitions of kit is a set of gear for a specific activity. I hear it most when people refer to European football / soccer or military uniforms.
