The presentation was a success. We had over 40 people turn up and got a lot of compliments about it. We have one more presentation on Friday and then we'll post a bunch of resources for the staff and students. Just glad it's basically done!
I looked at a townhouse on Sunday that I really liked. It's off market, they are using a realtor but I guess trying to avoid paying a buyer's agent by listing it privately. My sister found it on some kind of site and she went to see it with me. We let the realtor know I'm very interested and it would be a cash offer, but we asked to see the HOA bylaws first because she didn't seem to know what the condo fee covered and she verbally said that there's no restrictions on pets but we want to see it in writing. It's been 2 days now and when we check in with her, she says she's still trying to get the documents. I don't get why she didn't already have this and why it's taking so long! I think the seller is on the older side so maybe she just doesn't know how to find it, but WTF. We are ready to hand over cash, get a fire under your ass!
Definitely get the HOA docs. My mom was looking for a condo as a weekend place near us for a while and at the time they still had their dog. Initially the realtor thought the weight limit was higher based on the dogs they saw in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately the dog passed before they bought, but when they opened the HOA binder, the weight limit was definitely under the dog's weight.

She finally did get them to me and miraculously there are no restrictions on pets, just says that they can’t be noisy or disruptive. Fortunately my guys aren’t big barkers and as for their Wrestlemania matches we won’t be living above anyone.
Has anyone ordered the Holland Ridge tulips recently? It says they ship "Monday and Tuesday" and I'm curious if one is more common than the other. I'd like to send some to my mom, but I know she won't be home next Tuesday and if they ship Monday, I think there's a good chance they could be delivered Tuesday...
It's some kind of program/intervention the kids do every day with math facts and it's timed. DS has not been doing well on it at all and is way below the class median (H is the curriculum director in the district so he can see his scores) and DS, along with a few others, are keeping the class from moving on to the next level or whatever and DS said has said his teacher expressed disappointment about this and "yells at them" (he's dramatic so the yelling may not actually be happening).
Last night he said that Spring Math stresses him out because he just can't go that fast. I don't get the point of why it's timed but I'm not a teacher. I believe he knows how to answer the questions but either gets distracted or maybe he truly just can't do it with the speed that is needed. Anyway, it kind of broke my heart that a first grader is stressed over this.
This brings up such strong emotions for me. Back when I was in 2nd grade, we did something similar and I struggled so much and was the one holding everyone back. I remember crying nightly to my mom about this for days.
The funny thing is come 7th grade, I tested into the AP math program and from then on Math was my jam.
I have latched on to The Big Bang Theory. My mom and brother always said how funny it was, but I never would watch it. I've caught some clips on social media and now I really like it. I always seem to find shows after they've already been popular.
If you haven't watched Young Sheldon, I highly recommend it. Great show about Sheldon's youth.
My children are folding laundry and fighting. They broke the handle on my laundry basket. I think I'll go out for the evening and let my husband deal with it.
I impulsively bought Monster Jam tickets for Sunday. The last day of Spring Break when I should be gearing DS up to go back to school.
Monday will be rough.
We took our kids (13, 10, 5) because my 5 year old is obsessed. It was one of the best family events we’ve been too. They have a website that you rate the tricks and the oldest 2 loved that part. Remember earplugs and enjoy!
Anyone watching Prime's Fallout? We watched the first episode and liked it.
I'm on like episode 5 but I got hyperfocused on work and missed a bunch of stuff and will have to rewatch 4&5. I love it. It is much more bloody/violent/graphic than I usually like my shows to be, but it isn't so bad that I'm turning it off and it does stay kinda true to video game violence in general. I didn't/don't play the Fallout games because first person games aren't really my jam, but I do know a good bit of the lore and imagery in the games, more than a layperson at least.

This will be the third show we've been to. DS has sensory issues and I learned to invest in good headphones lol
DH apparently didn’t even want to go, but thought he would suck it up if we were all invited because E would love to go to a wedding.
Now DH is torn. I told him I will support whatever he wants to do, it’s his family. It’s not about the money, but he feels like a weekend in NYC right after Christmas isn’t worth the cost for family he’s not even close to.

The games are some of my husband's favorite games of all time! I can't play that style of game.

H finished it and loved it. I watched the first episode, and it was way too much like a video game for me.
but, I’m all about discussing Shōgun is anyone else is watching. Tonight’s episode… wow. Well, maybe I can’t discuss because I have no idea what is happening and how. At least not in a discussion way. But wow.

We're a few episodes into Shogun, too. I'm trying to like it, but I've been underwhelmed so far.

9 yo wants to get his ears pierced. We got him magnetic earrings and he is bounding around with them and 14 yo is helping him style them.
I feel badly that I didn't just easily agree to get his ears pierced the way I did for L. We are totally ok with it, but I worry about how to prepare him from potential jerk reactions from others. H thinks boys with earrings is becoming common enough it won't be a big deal.

My high school boyfriend had an earring. In 1995.
At the same time I understand your hesitation. But it's been normal for a long time.

DH read reviews and felt uncomfortable with the amount of nudity and sex for our 15 year old. Would you say there's a lot of that? Or mainly just video game style violence?

I'm happy to. I've read the book a couple times, so even though I'm a couple episodes behind I can still chat.
Then woman who plays Mariko was on Colbert, and it was fantastic
emilyinchile I will join the other ladies that you looked amazing! I also loved your H's blue suit and his flowered tie! Your son....those shoes and socks....what a cutie.
Congratulations! I am glad it was such a perfect day for you!

rubytue one of the things Colbert asked about was if 1600 Japanese sounds the way Shakespearean English sounds to our ears. Yes, and she gave examples.
Japanese today has 3 levels of formality, so I had assumed they were speaking at the highest level of formality, and that I could only catch a couple words because it's been 15 years since I studied and lived there and was never fluent.
She also taught her l him how to walk like a woman which the geisha still do in gion, so at least I've seen the end result but didn't know exactly how they achieved it despite reading explanations.

It's VERY violent. Like at one point a guys head gets crushed by a guy in a mech suit and they do show it. Limbs being blown off, etc. I haven't finished the series so their may be sex in later episodes, but the only sex scene was in the first episode and the woman was clothed (in a dress) and the man was shirtless, no nudity at all. With that said, the violence alone would make it a hard "no" for a 15 year old, IMO. If your conflicted, I think one of you should watch it before you decide to let the 15 year old.

I am really loving the show. The cinematography is amazing! And I do love a show with a good sword fight.
I must admit, I feel like John a lot of the time. Just taking it all in a processing everything. I can’t follow the the politics well. I need things far more explicit than all this unseen plans and wondering what is in their heads. And obviously there is a plan being hatched. And, I know the ending because history.

I hope this works for you, but if it doesn't I was able to get the HOA to approve my dog as part of the contingencies of an offer for my first condo. It was definitely a buyer's market then, but the last time the unit was listed it did mention "no weight limit for this first floor unit" so it must've stuck. She was a 45lb lab/cattle dog mix and the limit was 30lbs. I think weight limits are made by people who know nothing of dog breeds. My 90lb english lab is far less "disruptive" than any jack russell terrier I've ever met.

Welp, found the nudity (ep 6). That's still a resounding HELL NO for a 15 year old.
My neighbor just texted asking me if I could get some tree branches that are hanging over her yard trimmed. It's actually a perfectly reasonable request (it's a huge Sycamore tree and it does drop a lot of sticks and branches and I'm sure its annoying for both my neighbors) yet I am hot with annoyance about it, lol. Probably because this is the one that is obsessed with leaf removal too, because again, big trees drop leaves.... every fall she is obsessed with removing every last leaf from her yard and constantly complains to me about it.
She wants me to get it trimmed because "her dog choked on a stick" - maybe your dog shouldn't be trying to eat sticks or you should watch him closer. IDK lol. It's nature. Maybe you should move to a tree free zone if this is so triggering for you.
It does need trimmed so I'll get some quotes but we're already doing some plumbing projects and getting the house pressure washed so this wasn't really in the plan.
I'm under the impression that, in this case, it would be your neighbor's responsibility to trim since the branches are over her property. ?
lust2hart, doesn't this vary from state to state? I feel like this discussion is had a lot here but I don't actually know the answer, lol. My neighbor has actually had the branches trimmed before though. I think she is sick of it and I do think it's probably fair for us to trim it since we never have. We're having someone come Saturday and it'll only be a hundred bucks or so, so if that keeps the peace, I will do it this time.
She was complaining though that she is getting older and "can't keep cleaning up her yard" and I was like welp, I'm not paying 10K to remove that tree just because you hate leaves and branches. I said it in an "I'm trying to be funny" type of way at least, but I'm an asshole.

NTA! Enjoy your tree! Or, if you don't really care about it one way or another and would be fine with removing it if it wasn't for the expense, you can get a quote for removal and give it to your neighbor!

I just don’t understand people who hate perfectly healthy trees. They’re beautiful and so important to the ecosystem. NJ actually passed a law that effective May 1 municipalities have to have laws restricting tree removal, which I’m so glad. Our environmental commission has been trying to get one passed in our borough for 8+ years and it finally will pass next Monday! Unfortunately the state has ignored the issue for so long that our canopy is depleted, which is causing so many problems state wide (particularly flooding issues). I don’t understand why people would want healthy trees removed.
