The spring theme of nothing being resolved and everything dragging on continues.
After days of chats/photo taking it looks like we are being sent the missing grill part. Fingers crossed we can install it ourselves since it was was a part that was supposed to have come attached to the grill. We are trying to go through the warrantee to avoid returning the grill to Home Depot since it is very heavy and too big for our car.
The birth control refill saga keeps popping up after it was supposedly resolved.
I have bigger things going on and going around in circles about things that should be easy (and where I 100% did the right thing and was very proactive and clear) is driving me bananas.
I also feel like these issues wait to pop up on the few days I am home alone and can get things done. My whole morning was wasted with all this and dealing other dumb problems that were of no fault of mine.

I am in the office and have my headphones and Pandora playing loudly to try and drown out the admins who sit and talk alllll day about non-work related stuff and the person next to me who doesn’t silence her phone and gets 9 million texts all day.
I am coaching my kid's 5th Grade Book Battle Team. I try to avoid stuff like this because I don't like dealing with other parents. The team named themselves after an animal. Ok, great. They are allowed to dress up like their name for the competition (they usually wear uniforms).
One of the girls is insisting that they all wear taxidermied (is that a word?) tails of the animal that her father can provide. The other four girls are very much, HELL NO, to that idea. I have repeatedly told the girl she is welcome to wear one but the others don't have to. The mother has now texted me to say her daughter feels like her ideas are not being considered. I literally had to respond, "The other girls aren't comfortable wearing tails that used to be on living animals." Friday can't get here fast enough.
WTF. It was considered and every one else knows it’s gross and weird, Susan.
I decided to go grab a sandwich and someone was in the little Cafe with a whole set up about the long term care insurance you can buy through the company. She was giving out free candy (Reese eggs, my fave) but of course I want to be alone and not talk to anyone. And I don't want or need long term care insurance.
So I waited until she was distracted by someone else and slyly swiped some.
I am a full grown adult. I have, like, full adult skills. Just this morning, I gave a presentation to about 40 people like a damn boss. But I don't have the courage to tell the insurance lady I'm just here for the candy. And instead grabbed some like a theif when her back was turned.
Apparently today is picture day at DS's school. At first they said they had to wear their uniforms, but then next email said " Sunday best". All of his dress clothes are at his dads house so he's in jeans and a cute henley.
I wish the school would have communicated better so I could have planned. Oh well.
I'm sure he'll look great!!
Today was originally camo day for military appreciation week, so at least he's not wearing that for photos lol
My parents adopted a 7yo golden retriever this year and I bring her to my house about every other weekend so she gets more playtime. I love her. She is great. Finding her on NextDoor was a miracle.
But the fur! Golden fur is no joke. I have a yellow lab who I thought shed a lot, but the two types are totally different. It just floats in the air its so light. This does not change my love for her and she is always welcome here, but all the humans in my household agree that we're sticking with labs.
We have one of each! A golden and a yellow lab. The golden came second and omg the fur tumbleweeds that came with him! Wearing black in my home just isn't an option anymore.
I have therapy at 4pm today and wish I could just cancel it. I used to wonder why some people say they dread it at times, until now. It's like having to reopen a wound over and over, so even though I know it's good for me in the long run, sometimes it feels like an obligation that I dread.

I might be late on this wrt air bnb and luggage. I've only had positive experiences overseas. If you need to drop luggage, they'll happily accommodate you. It's been nothing like what I've read about for American situations. Just contact them.

gotdamn do I now have to rename myself to avoid the Karen treatment? Susan is a lovely name and you cannot foul it!

I have an international travel question that is very specific, I need help from those who have traveled with kids. We have two kids ages 10 and 12.
We land in Rome at 9:15 on a Monday and have a hotel room at a conference type hotel 13 km outside of the city, there isn’t a close train station. We have free time from when we land until 4:00 Tuesday. (Then the conference begins).
I am considering booking an Airbnb for Monday night in the city so we can walk around and just enjoy rome, and not have to Uber back and forth from the hotel. We would just have a backpack of a change of clothes and toiletries.
Is this dumb with jet lag and kids? Should we just stay at the hotel and Uber to the city for lunch/dinner and head back? I am so torn bc an Airbnb would give us two bedrooms and save us the back and forth. But also it can be a hassle.
I would consider booking something that you can get into earlier. My kids hit the wall around 2 pm. Once we got into the hotel around 4 pm they had completely passed out. They did not sleep much at all on the airplane.

OMG! I don't know how I missed this earlier. Now I really want to know why their father has access to animal tails...

Ha! I’ve used Susie or Susan as my generic woman’s name in stories since I was a kid because I didn’t know anyone with that name.
Then it turned out to be my MIL’s name and I can’t still can’t stop using it lol
I know. My name was in the top 10 for the 50s and half 60s. It's definitely a boomer name. But I wish it weren't in the category of Karen! I have a boomer mom like friend named Karen and we bond in this
Poor DS. He has to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy and the doctor's office scheduled it for the day before his 16th birthday. His response when he found out was no, no, no, hell no, no....lol. I am waiting for a call back to see if it can be pushed back a week.
If you can’t reschedule it, he’ll likely be 100% fine the day after for his birthday. It’s the days leading up that would be worse lol

I don't know why, but the idea that every single privately owned vacation rental in the whole wide world except the US is going to be accommodating to an early check-in/luggage drop is really sending me. I mean sure, ask! But yeah, no, plenty of places outside the US make you book the extra night if you need access outside the stipulated times.

My MIL is too old to be a Boomer lol I think it’s just a classic!

I have like 6 friends named Karen, ranging in age from 40 to 60+. Apparently it was really common name at that time! Or I just seem to attract Karens. I always feel bad for them for the bad reputation their name has gotten. All the Karens I know are lovely!
QFT. Today's latest with my dad is that apparently he *won't* look into the hearing aids he thought sounded like a great option a few days ago. He had significant enough hearing loss several years ago that he was given NHS-issued hearing aids, and he doesn't like them because they just amplify all sounds. But instead of paying for better ones - which aren't cheap, but he can 100% afford them - he just insists that he can hear most things and then pouts when he thinks he's being ignored because he can't hear the group conversation. I notice his hearing is worse even since Christmas, but apparently it's just our fault we talk too softly.

My dad is the same way! He has pretty bad hearing loss in one ear and didn't like the aids he tried so he gave up. Thankfully his other ear is ok, but if you happen to be sitting on his bad side and try to speak to him, he won't even know. I don't know why he won't just try some others, I think it would make his life a lot easier!
Whenever my mom mentions being frustrated with a family member or friend being stubborn about aging or health stuff, I tell her to remember that when it's her turn. I know we all think we won't be like that.

You are right, but I also agree that owners in other countries tend to be a lot more accommodating than American owners. I am sure there are exceptions but so far I've really only stayed at international airbnbs that bend over backwards trying to offer hospitality. I would never expect an early check in, but many will hold luggage and I even see this in listings. Rome may be less accommodating since Italian culture isn't quite as accommodating in general, but you could certainly ask.
That said i would probably just do a hotel for 1 night. There is a big range of prices in Rome so I am sure you can find something at your price point. Or just take an Uber and stay at the conference hotel which would probably be easier.
I came home early because of a late meeting tonight. I'm basking in the sun in a hammock. Amazing.
My dad is going in for more heart tests. After having a valve repair a few years ago, that one is leaking again and two others are in worse shape. Yay.
After having an ear infection/ruptured eardrum/covid in November, I'm watching and waiting to see if I now have permanent hearing loss. This is for the birds, man.

It actually is a classic, and I'm not offended by that. In certain arabic countries there are songs about suzen, suzie. NBD. I actually find it nice that my name is so old. I just mentioned it as an aside. And no boomer is too old to use it for their kid.
I just got an email from my son's MIDDLE school saying that the DoorDash and UberEats deliveries to the school need to stop. What the everloving f*ck is going on? Are the kids ordering themselves? Are the parents ordering for the kids? I just can't even imagine doing this... maybe that makes me old?!

We got a graduation announcement for H’s cousin’s son today. I have never met his cousin. I met the kid’s grandfather (H’s uncle) once for 5 minutes at a family funeral. I didn’t know the graduate’s last name until today. I would have had to think hard about his first name.
H was never close to this family branch. He’s never met the kid. He hasn’t seen cousin in maybe 30 years.
We don’t exchange Christmas cards.
We are FB friends who occasionally like posts. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with the information that this kid is graduating. I’m not inclined to send money and an empty card from a stranger would be weird to a kid.

Honestly nothing. You do nothing and don't feel bad about it!

I feel like this came up in a thread and was apparently an issue at a lot of schools.

DS got a job!! He starts training tomorrow. There is a restaurant down the street from us so I made him go down to fill out an application for a busser position. Turns out one of his teammates mother's works there and made the manager interview him since it was slow. He has been working as a scorekeeper at the local rink, but once the season was over it's been tough to get games since they are so limited so he hasn't worked since the end of February.
