One of my sons closest friends is a sophomore and his sister is Senior with my son. We are very friendly with the parents. we don't hang out or anything but we sit together at games and such.
I would like to get the daughter a small graduation gift but money is not exactly appropriate given out relationship. I also don't want to g we t into a situation where we are swapping cash.
I'm thinking something thoughtful for her dorm (she is going to same college as DS). I was looking at etsy and there are some cute personalized pillows or throw blankets but idk her fav colors.
Any other ideas? She is looking at being in a suite with 2 double rooms and a shared common room and bathroom between the 4 roommates.
ETA: I should also mention she is committed to play basketball there

I like the idea of a tumbler with the school logo (although when I was in college back in the day, we got some of those for free, but still, you can get a nice one) and fill it with some packs of candy and mints and gum.

My go-to graduation gift is a small toolbox with the basics. I got one when I graduated high school. It comes in SO handy and helped me meet a lot of new people as a freshman (because people always needed to borrow it).

Yes this! I still have the kit I got for college on the advice of my uncle's partner and now it lives in my office at work. So so helpful!
Haha. I guess I'm from the age of the dinosaurs that still used physical cards!
I remember when everyone would suggest rolls of coins for vending and laundry. A few years ago someone posted that it was digital. My brain exploded.
I was going to suggest a stapler! My roommate gave one to my sister when she started college (2 years behind us). Duh, I don’t touch their grubby papers anymore! I should know better!
Although I need my actual physical ID at my schools.
My DS is a freshman this year. I think anything with the school logo on it would be great - tshirt, tumbler or water bottle, ID holder, lanyard, etc.
I agree with this given that you don't know her or her tastes that well, and seems like there would be lots of different options so you can find something that fits your budget.

I’m in classes now and haven’t needed a stapler. How crazy is it 10+ years ago these items were normal?

Me too. But I wouldn't recommend an ID holder because there are too many options to know what they really would want. Not to mention the fact that LOTS of folks give them away on campus at move in or engagement fairs and the like.

Yes, this is true! I need to swipe my ID at the community college, but tap it at the university
Interesting topics in regards to what's outdated. I'm going to hold off on anything that may have moved to touchless/electronic. lol
I'm actually curious if they even have real books. In high school, majority if their text books were in their chrome books/online.
Before I started my MBA I bought all kinds of highlighters, sticky notes, and cute notebooks. I haven't used a one. All my material is online and on the rare occasion I take notes, I use my iPad.

that's what I figured. So I'm waiting to get most supplies.
Like high school, I'll grab him some folders, pencils and pens (and a laptop) and wait it out.
He's only 30 mins away so we can easily pop up and drop stuff off. there's also a shuttle to Walmart.

Was it called the "Do-It-Herself Kit" by any chance? Mine was, and they were all light blue. Years ago H threw away the box (I still haven't forgiven him) but I still have most of the tools.
