I'm getting sick of seeing article after article talking about inflation when we all know corporate profits have skyrocketed. Sure, we all know your McD order costs a whole lot more, and you get less for it, but that's not inflation. That's unchecked corporate greed. We've seen profit margins grow each quarter.
I cannot help but think this is all rethuglican narrative to get trump back in to further give billionaire and corporate tax breaks which only exacerbates it. I'm both angry and despondent about it. These corporations are doing a-ok. Record profits, in fact.
Fuck our county commissioners. They're trying to remove next year's budget increase for our county library in retaliation for librarians protesting book bans. And reinstate late fines for adults. I hate ringleader so much.

It’s so awesome though to see how many people are taking action. I hope somehow they knock off one of the commissioners who voted in favor of the cut.
They already have the transcripts. I imagine Biden et al just don't want the Republicans having audio they could take snippets of out of context and use them politically.

At Justice Alito’s House, a ‘Stop the Steal’ Symbol on Display An upside-down flag, adopted by Trump supporters contesting the Biden victory, flew over the justice’s front lawn as the Supreme Court was considering an election case.
“I had no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag,” Justice Alito said in an emailed statement to The Times. “It was briefly placed by Mrs. Alito in response to a neighbor’s use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs.”

Yes, the White House Counsel has stated that as the reason (because it’s obvious that that’s exactly what republicans want it for). I’m just not sure how the assertion of privilege is going to hold up since they’ve already released the transcript. In my (admittedly limited) understanding, either the interview is covered by privilege or it isn’t. I’m afraid they shot themselves in the foot there.
MTG starts it, but Ms Jasmine Crockett finishes it.
I don't even know how to respond to this. WTF to all of them. LOL to Boebert siding with the Dems against MTG. There's bad blood there.
I’ve seen some follow up interviews with JC. The R’s scheduled that hearing for that morning on their issue and then canceled it very last minute, rescheduling to that evening because that was the day a bunch of them went to NYC to sit in the courtroom. 😡

Rudy G thought he was about to get away without being served...turns out the handed him papers at his party. He later deleted his original tweet shorturl.at/Faarp
Feeling cocky, Rudy went on X/Twitter Friday night and began taunting Arizona prosecutors. His gloating didn’t last long. Shortly thereafter, Rudy was served in Palm Beach at his 80th birthday bash, hosted by Trumper Caroline Wren.
I started following this group of colleagues who can only be described as MAGAt degenerates arguing with Biden voting degenerates. The MAGAts keep bringing up something about Biden and his daughter and the daughter’s diary? (I don’t want to type it all out here.)
Is any of this diary stuff true? Does it even exist? Because it would be on brand for them be attempting to bring down Biden’s credibility with lies.

OMG Trump's aide, the one who was apparently responsible for the reich incident, is always near him with her portable printer to feed him flattering articles and memes. Trumplethinskin indeed!

A General Election has been declared! Sunak has declared a General Election and it will take place on 4 July (lol, a new Independence (from the Tories) Day for the UK). It's all gearing up now! I'm currently in a safe Labour seat - they'll get more than 65% of the vote. Our Labour MP is quite good and I'd vote for her anyway.
Just a reminder - you don't vote for the Prime Minister - you vote for your own MP. If enough MPs from one party are voted in (first past the post), then that party's Prime Minister selection becomes the PM. (I hate the system)

Isn't this at least a month earlier than expected? What are pros/cons of having it at that date. At least it's not a long campaign season!

Lol to July 4.
Students will be on holiday, Scotland has a holiday typically then - so they are hoping that the least conservative people won't be around to vote.

So this leads to another question. Is voter turnout as low as the us? Is there early or mail in voting? Do people have to be physically present to vote at a certain day and time? I'm sure google would answer me, but I might as well ask you since you know both cultures.
I'm currently in a country where people's index fingers are inked that lasts about a week, so there is definitely public shaming. I know in the last election, similar style to uk thanks to colonization, people traveled hours to vote against the competitive islamist parties (they succeeded, thankfully).
Turnout I believe is the biggest factor in determining the results, so I'm curious where the uk lies on that spectrum of everyone votes to avoid public shaming to, meh, nbd, nothing changes anyway.

Traditionally, we have around 60-75% of the population voting in general elections. You can't do early voting, but you can vote by mail or by proxy. If you vote in person, you have between 7am to 10pm. You are assigned a location which is near your home (you get a voter card). This will be the first general election where you will need ID (which I'm really angry about because it's likely that the percentage voting will be a lot less). I'd say that voters are proud that they voted and there isn't any shaming - some people will go and vote and ruin their ballot if they feel they have no one to vote for - but they want to be able to vote. There is definitely a feeling right now that no matter which party wins, nothing will change, which I find ridiculous, because there is a BIG difference between the current Tory party and every other party.

mrsukyankee I heard today that Sunak is proposing a national conscription as part of his "re-election" strategy (I know no one voted for him specifically, hence the quotes). This seems like a bad idea. Thoughts?

It's hugely a bad idea and no one, even the military, thinks it's good. It's just adding to the thought that Sunak just wants to lose and tank the Tories who have been giving him shit. We have so many current Tory MPs jumping ship right now - around 80 have declared so far, which is a record post-war number. Many declared this when the election was declared which means that the Tories know they were going to lose their seats - not sure if they'll have enough people to even stand as candidates in the areas.
