If my radio/Apple car play didn't work, I would want it fixed or I'd trade it in. I agree that it's not tenable to not be able to use Waze or radio reliably.
I'm just coming in to say that I've heard... not great things about the 2024/2025 VWs from people that sell them. I LOVE VWs. I grew up driving them, and I've had 4 as an adult (Jetta, Touareg, 2 Atlas'). My 2nd Atlas has had a lot of annoying problems. And the big complaint about the latest VWs is that the tech package is really glitchy. So... if you're thinking about another car right now, you might want to steer clear of VWs, or hold on to what you have until they can figure out this issue.
Does anybody have a hybrid CRV? I saw a new CRV in the parking lot at preschool pickup the other day and was marveling at how large/long it looked. I thought it was a Pilot at first glance. Sure enough, the current CRVs have about 5 cu ft. of cargo space more than a Subaru Forester. The gas mileage is even better than my beloved Jettas.
We rarely actually need the 3rd row of our Atlas, so something the size/class of a CRV, with roof rails for our Thule box, could be a good compromise. It would be a viable backup to the Atlas as it ages with much lower fuel consumption.

Replace it! My vote comes from my love of sunroofs, I wouldn't want to deal with not having the phone, radio, navigation etc. and also my friend just won a lawsuit against VW. I think it was a 2017 Jetta Hybrid.

No, but it's #1 on my list of things to get if Curvy were to die tomorrow. That and maybe a RAV 4. I am on my 2nd CRV. Plenty of room for the bikes/kids.

I’m pretty conservative with money, but I would replace with a new car. I think the phone and radio are deal breakers not to have and that seems like a lot of repair money ($2500). I love my car, which is a 2016 with 55,000 miles and so I can relate to the difficulty in making this decision. Both of your cars being the same age add to the replace to me.
I’m 45 and am generally planning to replace a car every 10-12 years. I have a teen who will take my 2016 CRV at 10 years old and I’ll get a new CRV.

I would replace it. It sounds like a lemon, that's a lot of stuff to go wrong on a low mileage car. And I don't think I would buy another one.
I also wouldn't get a second big car- deal with the actual problem and do t worry about future problems. You'll replace the Atlas when it needs replacing.
As far as what to replace it with, since you use it for drive to your dad's, an all electric probably isn't the answer. I have a hybrid and love it- don't have to get gas quite as much, don't have to worry about the cost of gas, gets the job done. Mine is a 2009 Honda and I've been super happy with no issues.
