a town we used to live in, in VT, did something similar last year. There was this lovely little dirt road that like on a normal day had 50 cars drive it total, but an influencer went during the fall foliage and did a spotlight on it. The road got so crowded that it was closed and only open to residents who lived on the road. There was this huge outrage in the area; people wanted their privacy and did not want their roads, driveways or yards destroyed by inconsiderate tourists, but a HUGE portion of the town's economy is based on tourism, so where is the line drawn?
It was interesting to watch it unfold and hear the different arguments.

That first article is 2 years old. I'd be curious about an update (notwithstanding things like Fuji as there have always been protectional pockets against tourists everywhere in the world.)
I've been living in one of the most restrictive regions during COVID-19 and one of the last to reopen. All I'm seeing are massive discounts still from countries, including Japan, trying to get tourists to return.
Meanwhile some locations are introducing capacity controls and more tourist taxes sometimes nearly adjacent to the ones not restricting.

So many spots in Europe are having issues with tourists and digital nomads - a lot of Portugal, the Canary Islands, parts of Spain, parts of Italy. There have been protests, signs put up, etc. I don't blame them as many places are now unaffordable to the locals as outsiders have purchased AirBnBs or purchased for themselves at higher prices. And at the same time, so many locals see that they get a lot from tourists as well. Push-pull.
No real point other than humans will ruin just about anything.
I don't see what the point of this post is except to shit on the things that other people are doing. I bet that Japan doesn't have trouble accepting all of the money that tourists are spending in their country.
Let's shit on all of the things that you as the OP do for yourself that potentially impact the environment and other people.

You must be new, because LOL for days at you going after Pixy for her environmental impact.

Did I hit a nerve? Were you one of the idiots stepping into traffic to take a picture?
Over tourism, and tourists not being aware of country norms/defacing monuments/obeying local laws/just being respectful has been well documented in the media. Especially after covid it's been on the rise (see first article about Revenge Tourism). Places that welcome tourists are being overwhelmed, so yes they want/need the money, but the phrase "too much of a good thing" comes to mind.
Bad anecdote time: It's like the show Bar Rescue when they take a sleepy and failing bar, and then they *pack* it with customers. 95% of the time during that section the bar fails the test. They want the customers, they want the money, they don't have the infrastructure to handle the influx. Then if you add on top customer's (or in this case tourist's) bad behavior, it's a no win situation and can damage what drew people there in the first place.
My intent with most of the articles that I post is to spur reflection on one's own behavior and how it contributes to the whole.

yeah, pixy. Why don’t YOU think about the environment for once? Has it ever occurred to you that there are ways personal decisions could impact it? Why have you never said anything ever before (or even in other posts probably right under this one because I don’t know how to scroll)?

Huh? HUH???
pfffffft... Fuck the environment. It's all a libruhl scam anyway.

How long did Venice's pedestrian toll booths last? A week maybe? It was such a PITA for locals it wasn't worth the potential money it brought it. Bali introduced a tourist tax, and it's been a disaster in its rollout. Tourists don't know about it or how to pay it, and the people supposed to enforce it don't really know either. I imagine they'll scatch it soon if they haven't already.
Tourists behaving badly has always been a thing. Chinese tourists got such a bad reputation (doing things like defacating on religious sites) that the government required good tourist classes before departure approval was granted. I wonder if they're still doing that.
So, yeah, tourists can bring in money, but they can also drive up costs so much that it's an actual loss for those who live there. Not everyone benefits from tourist dollars.
