I finally pulled the trigger on a project for my back yard. I'm taking down a dying apple tree that is right outside my back door, roughly the middle of the house. In the late summer/fall, we'll plant two Royal Raindrops crabapple trees. When they reach maturity, the idea is that their branches will just meet about where the apple tree is now. This puts one tree roughly outside my dining room and one outside my guest bedroom.
Since I moved here, I've had to take out a crabapple tree, a fir, several arbor vitae, a hawthorn (good riddance!), and now the apple. I added a dogwood (Cherokee Chief) to replace the hawthorn and I just couldn't take out the apple and not put anything new in. It was too depressing.
