“I vote no. This legislation is totally not necessary and just political theatre by the Ds.”
What they really mean-> “I vote no. This legislation would make it impossible to pass legislation on the state level to block access to contraception. Rs need this issue to get camera time and messaging to folks who are panicking that misogyny is dying.”

On the one hand, they're right. This was absolutely about show. On the other, yes, they should force these assholes to go on the record as not being firm in support of birth control.
Sadly, voting assholes will buy their awful bullshit arguments of "but religious freedom." These are the same people who will buy all those groomer "arguments." Or who truly think trump isn't lying. IOW, this won't make a mite of difference with the magats, but hopefully it will with people who maintain a semblence of reality.
I had a sinking feeling that once Roe went down, Griswold would be next. I don't like being right
Asshole Thomas said in his tear down Roe opinion that we should revisit Griswold. How in the world is this a surprise to anyone?
My baby political self said back in about 2005 they were coming for it, and my "mom" said I was just an idealistic cynical chicken little, and that would never happen, despite my proof at the time that Bush's HHS head thought bcp were akin to abortion.
Why is this happening? I mean besides the obvious men wanting to control women stuff.
Are there no physicians, especially women physicians, who can say "hey these are medications that saved my patient's lives. See life saving stories in exhibits 1, 2, and 3. Pharmaceuticals may advertise them as BCP, maybe direct your anger at them and leave me and my fellow licensed medical professionals out of it."
Is it because there are no women physicians that are senators or representatives?

I think it's because these assholes are immune to data, to empathy. This is not a court where facts theoretically rule.
They think it gets them votes to stay in power and that is the only consideration

They don’t care about those stories. It’s ok if women die.

That’s so true. Birth control is essential health care for millions of women.
Also, when are the younger men going to speak up? As far as I can tell, Gen Z men are more interested in travel and video games and not into having big families. Yes I know the woman has to bear the brunt of the work with the pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding but the men will still be on the hook for child support. And you can’t disappear into the sunset in the era of genetic testing.

Umm no, that’s definitely not it. It’s just that politicians are assholes. They don’t care about stories of women or people dying. If they did we would have universal health and legal access to abortion, including with federal funds. They care about continued control through patriarchy and white supremacy. There’s PLENTY of advocacy work being done, PLENTY of people speaking up and here we are because of what I said in my previous sentence. Think about how this country was founded.

So is the answer to get more women into these political positions?
What's next, we roll back women being allowed to vote?

given what they're clamoring for, i wouldn't put it past them.
Taliban in Afghanistan -> BAD Taliban in the USA -> greeted w open arms by disenfranchised white males

That may help (and isn't likely to hurt, at least). From the OP's article: "Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Maine Sen. Susan Collins, both Republicans, broke with their party and voted to advance the legislation."
But we all know that women can also hold terribly misogynistic views, so more women alone probably isn't enough.

I heard a statistic (years ago so I don’t have a source) that something like 50% of men believe they have never benefited from birth control. The onus falls on women so men are oblivious. They aren’t going to speak up because it isn’t something they have had to worry about and likely don’t even realize what the repercussions are.

The R candidate for NC gov has previously said he doesn't think women should be able to vote. So, yeah, that's not hyperbole

What happened is that wealthy, savvy, selfish people decided that they wanted to keep allllll their money (earned, inherited, wealth management- stocks, etc) and pay little to no taxes. Since this would benefit such a tiny percent of the population (1%-2%) and harm such a large percent (98%-99%), they needed to create a political environment where voters would vote in legislators who would pass and maintain tax policy because of reasons OTHER than taxes. Because if voters noticed that all of the money was going to 1-2% of the population then they wouldn’t vote for those legislators/representatives. So, the R messaging chose what is easy and what works well - fear, nationalism, white supremacy, blaming others, and saving babies (with a focus on birth and nothing past birth).
The messaging got traction (it worked a bit) and then the Rs got themselves in charge of deciding the lines for voting districts. They did such a great job gerrymandering districts to favor R that they went overboard. Going overboard meant that Rs who wanted to run in deep red districts had to over-do themselves on being the MOST R possible.
So, Rs got bigger and louder on their messaging to fear all progress in anything that is not deeply misogynistic. What does that look like? “SAVE BABIES, STOP ABORTIONS, STOP WOMEN, RETURN MEN TO BEING MANLY MEN”.
So, if you are an R who wants to outdo another R, in our current political climate, you are way past ending abortion (mostly because trigger laws did it automatically after Roe) and are now moving on to what (?) -> ending birth control, women voting …
There is PLENTY of evidence that strict abortion laws do not decrease abortions and do increase maternal deaths but the people VOTING don’t care about evidence. Or really want to know about evidence. They like and want the R messaging which soothes their fears, blames the right people, and promises to return them to a future of great prosperity AS LONG AS THEY KEEP VOTING R.

If Trump wins, they'll make abortion a felony. Women who get abortions and get convicted lose the right to vote.
Also, Kansas state Supreme Court just found that Kansans have no fundamental right to vote, so ...

I think things are going to get worse but I do think in general laws against people having abortions is at least for now far off in the future. I think the laws are going to continue to target providers and people helping people get abortions. Republicans are fucked up but not stupid. Their legal game is unfortunately on point and they know what will slide by and what won’t.
I mostly think if they thought that was a good strategy they would’ve already done it.
The Alitos are outing themselves with more than their flags.
They have a home in NJ? Ugh. Is this where they are flying these flags? She mentioned "lagoon." I haven't seen this story come across my feeds but I guess I don't follow the shore culture either.

Ugh seriously?! I think I’ve been fortunate that past partners were just as concerned about birth control as I was.
