I am glad to see they are at least making plans to deal with it. This is terrifying. And I would not have been shocked to see the Ds just sit around thinking it was so odd the wall it could never happen. And then, it does while they all sit around dumbstruck.
edit, but, you know, this has been put scaring the bajessus out of people for awhile. We can’t just pretend it’s too outlandish to happen. Which I suspect a lot of people feel. Denial, not a river.

This is my husband when I talk about losing my federal job if Trump wins.

Just this week I was talking about this to a friend. A very like minded friend who has been ranting about project 2025 for months. He brought up that there will be stops in the process. And yes, in a normal world there would be. We have the Merit Services Protection Board, we have unions. Schedule F(ucked) shouldn’t be able to be rolled out and us fired in a month. We should be offered buy out, be able to take the VERA option, Priority Placement Program, etc. I have zero faith that’s gonna work. There has been a bit of talk of VERA around my office (mostly from people who would’ve interested, not from management). But we don’t even have the budget to pay for it.
Maybe this should be another thread, like the annual shutdown one lol, to discuss if anyone else is trying to prepare. But I feel a ton of angst. I try to think through things and what I can do to prepare for losing my job, at 50, with you know, 1/3 of everyone else in the area losing theirs. What the hell do I do? 90% of my savings (which could get me through) are in the TSP, which I can’t really access unless I “retire.” And will the stock market still have value when the US implodes? I could consult, maybe, but then is there anything every to consult on if my primary area of expertise is regulations that don’t exist? It’s terrifying.
edit - I feel any talk about this in the real world is met with comments about chicken little. But yes, the sky could very well fall next spring.
So having a concerted push to fill and staff all those vacancies immediately would spell big trouble for everyone.
There is a part of me that thinks back to the way I’ve always thought and the prospect of losing my job, which is that if I was out of a job (aside from shutdowns) then it would pretty much mean the US government collapses and then there are far bigger issues that just if I have 6 months of savings. And I feel we are on that precipice. And maybe I am a bit chicken little about it, but I admit I am trying to calmly prepare, without being a crazy prepper. Or at least think through scenarios. But then I end up in a tailspin because, well, it’s just so crazy that seems so out of the rhelm of possibilities. Or is it?
My friend's photo of her U.S., UK, and Irish passport books the other day is even more enviable than it was then.
Except, of course, that many elections across Europe followed similar paths as the U.S. right now. I don't understand it. Is it religious reaction to mainstreaming LGBTQ rights? Is it men getting terrified that women are taking over and reacting, with their foolish ladies voting alongside them instead of thinking for themselves and their daughters?

John Oliver last week tonight's main piece was about project 2025. As always it was the perfect balance of in depth information, biting commentary, and humor.

There was "no way" he was going to win in 2016 and then...oh wait. This feels disgustingly similar (how???) to that, except add some felonies. So many people just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary but didn't want Trump to win. Now there are a lot of people who are meh (or worse) on Biden, but still don't like Trump and possibly still haven't learned any lessons from 2016. There is also a SHITLOAD of people out there who have no idea how inflation works and are blaming the price of things on Biden. So I definitely think some sort of plan needs to be in place. Because I sure as fuck don't trust our country to do the right thing. Do I think it's insane that there is even still talk about Trump 2024? Yes. But I also think it's insane how many supporters he STILL has, after ALL the shit that he's done IN ADDITION TO all the shitty things he did before he was elected.

for real tho.
Just this morning I threw up in my mouth a little bit because someone in our work parking lot has the audacity to have a Trump 2024 sticker on their car. I don't see how anyone who works for my company could vote for Trump, based on our values that permeate everything we do. Obviously there have to be some just based on statistics... but you'd think they'd be discrete about it.
To add to the gloom: even if Biden wins in 2024, let's hope something happens before 2028 so we don't have to do this all over again.
Gah. I cannot even imagine. I've literally gotten 4 marriage purposals in case that happens if that tells you something about how other countries feel. 4 from 2 countries, but 4 distinct ethnicities. It scares everyone. This is not a local usa only issue. The entire world is watching.
On a related note, the other night I actually came up with a plan of what I could do if this all plays out as I fear. Granted, it will require “retirement” not just fire everyone. But, I got as far as parking a YouTube channel and Instagram name.

You can always go to another country! Especially if you have usd in your online work. There are many countries where you can do this now.

Michelle, it's not religion in most of Europe. Most countries don't have the same right wing religious branch as in the US. It is a reaction to immigration - which is increasing, of course, due to climate change and political change in countries south to Europe. It is also right wing wealthy people being in control of the media (messaging) and many politicians. There's a lot of fear of 'other' and that's being stoked.

Thanks. I have, though, been seeing conservative right wing opposition to LGBTQ rights, along with "Catholics are being targeted across Europe" and similar complaints. Also a fair amount of Muslim xenophobia.
Maybe the xenophobia goes hand in hand with Immigration concerns though. Like us in the U.S., we don't seem to be concerned about European or Canadian immigration; just everyone else.

Michelle, yup - white people, okay, brown people, not okay. Muslim people, worst. Believe me, the xenophobia is awful (we have a Muslim Mayor in London, who is doing a great job, but people always talk about 'no go zones' due to him, which is not a thing).

I think we'll be doing this again in 2028 even if he wins.
Pack the court with a few more Trumpies and suddenly "more than twice" will mean "more than twice consecutively" since the spirit of the law is to encourage turn over. Which we had.
"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

Can you say more about going to another country?
I've floated this idea with H. However, he doesn't see things quite like I do....yet. hence, he thinks staying in the US is our best option 🤷
We have daughters ages 10 and 13. I'm so scared about their rights being taken away if we stay in the US.
H can work from anywhere. I'm in education, so my prospects might be more limited.

You cannot believe anything Tritler ever says. It lied 52+ times in the debate between it and Biden..... Tritler knows FULL WELL what Project 2025 is about and will welcome it.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
