I've been watching the swimming trials and it's so fun! I'm so excited & can't wait. They also had some of the diving on last night too. The track & field trials start this weekend.
I think I'm going to plan an office watch party for the opening ceremonies. Friday 7/26. I want to watch the float parade!
Caleb Dressel is the nephew of a family friend so we're watching them get so excited and it's exciting. I love the Olympics! (Plus it's Euros time so that's taking up 7 hours a day in my house right now )

My brain is shot because I didn’t even remember starting that zombie threat lol. Covid times did a number on all of us!
I am meh about the Olympics. KIDDING I AM OBSESSED AND CANNOT WAIT. It’s trials time, Euros time, soon Copa America time…this is the most wonderful time of year (well, every two years).

My first thought when I saw this thread was "where is Velar Fricative?" (meaning, I expected you to be on top of every Olympics discussion. In a good way.)
I’m gonna just post this here, for the people who like obscure sports and want to learn about fencing. Which is, the best sport. Where else can you watch beekeepers stab each other? youtu.be/x7zxpDW8nb0?si=TwoKF3V3w06G11h4
Women to watch: women’s foil: Lee Keifer, first American women to win a gold, currently #1 in the world. Women’s saber: I like the French women here. Sara Belzer is my ❤️. Marion Apithy-Brunet also is great. And Olga Karlan, Ukraine is also amazing. I think that is your gold, silver, bronze, but I can’t guess the order. On the US side, Tatiana Nazylmov is the best we have. I think this is her warm up year and next Olympics she will medal. I don’t follow epee at all, but I’m two degrees of separation from Kat Holmes, and I hear great things.
Men *yawn* Lee Keifers husband is on the foil team and he took gold at the Grand Prix in DC a few month ago (Nick Itkin). Colin Heathcock is the best men’s saber we have now, but he is young. Hungry and Korea have the best men’s saber right now. We don’t have a US men’s epee team. Basically, one guy lost his temper at a qualifying event and got himself and the team black carded, so they didn’t get qualifying points last summer and couldn’t overcome that.

@rrubytue I appreciate you posted even if I probably won't watch. I didn't watch women's vball until 2012 and turned out I loved it, so there's hope for me yet to your support. Bonus: no balls out spins to track!

I’ll be honest, it’s not easy to watch. I’ve been watching it for a year on our big screen (streaming YouTube) and to his credit, H tries. And he gets some of it, but I still get a lot of “how do you see the blade?” And, I watch the hand and my brain just knows the physics to extrapolate where it goes. Like how you need to be a figure skater to tell the difference in a triple lutz and a triple sowcow?
I admire her so much for several reasons and I have really enjoyed watching her compete at the gymnastics events so far this year (Classic, US Championships). She looks like she is having FUN again doing the sport and has said as much too. Can't wait to watch her at trials!
Ralph, noo. The faded jeans with the piping-trimmed blazer look ridiculous.
I’ve always thought jeans were kind of quintessentially American, no? Like, it makes sense to use jeans. Does it look like every outfit Ralph Lauren has designed? Yes. But for the opening ceremony it feels ok-ish. The pop of red stands out.

Yeah, I assume they were going for a stereotypical "Americana" aesthetic, and the blue jeans fit that.

We are on vacation in Paris right now. A lot of places are cordoned off in preparation for the Olympics such as the Place de la Concorde and the Champ de Mars. But very cool to see!
My daughter has been at the swimming trials all week watching with her team and she is sending me so many cool pictures and videos and she is so happy, 1000% in her element (her dream is to swim in college and make the trials. She's only 13 but she can dream!)
frlcb, DD wishes she was there but she is watching too (also 13 and obsessed with swim)! Seeing Regan Smith get the world record gave me chills. Same with Gretchen Walsh. So many amazing athletes!

I happened to be in Indy yesterday for work & the town is festive! I made my coworker take a selfie of us in front of the mini Eiffel tower.

A dark wash jean would have been fine. It’s the faded wash that is not working at all for me; it looks like they spilled something on the trousers they were supposed to be wearing 5 minutes before the opening ceremony and this was all they had. Apparently he’s done white denim for previous Olympics uniforms, which also would have been a nice classic look, but maybe he didn’t want to be repetitive (then again, as noted upthread, he can’t seem to move off of the navy blazers. What about an aviator jacket?). I guess we should just be thankful he didn’t go for ice wash - I’ve seen those on people lately and have had major 80s flashbacks.
