due to the positioning of a loon's feet, it is nearly impossible for them to walk on land. Their nests are just barely out of the water.
I have witnessed this first hand - they will come just out of the water and they look like they are struggling! They can also stay under water for up to 5 minutes.
Bonus points if you did him when he was in HIS 70s, as per family tradition.
HA! I laughed when I wrote it that way, thinking that it sounded weird. But no, not biblically. I actually know his wife better (not biblically there either).
President John Tyler, who took office in 1841, still has one living grandson.
The curious side effect of becoming a parent in your 70's. Both President Tyler AND his son fathered children well into their 70's.
Along these same lines, I find this fascinating:
The last remaining child of a Civil War veteran died in 2020. The daughter of a Civil War veteran was still receiving his monthly pension benefit until her death in 2020:

I’ve read about this subject as well. Apparently a fair number of elderly Civil War vets married much younger women so they’d have someone to care for them as they aged, and the young women would receive their benefits after they died.
I HAVE ANOTHER STUPID US HISTORY ONE.
Robert Todd Lincoln had absolutely dogshit luck, and US presidents probably should have run screaming from him. His father was assassinated in 1865, famously, but fifteen years later, RTL was Secretary of War under James Garfield and present at his assassination. About a decade after that, he and his family rolled into Buffalo, NY (after three years in England and a summer in NJ) the same day William McKinley was shot there. He visited him, thought he was good, and then heard via telegram that he’d died a week later of an infection.

The morning show I listened to was talking about Joseph Gordon Levitt this morning and was trying to think of the movie he was in about porn (Don Jon) and someone said “Lincoln”. Someone else said, “Lincoln’s son”. And I didn’t get it because I didn’t think he had kids…I mean I’m sure I knew he did at SOME point in my life, I just didn’t retain it. My American History HS teacher, father would be mortified, lol.
They can keep for months at home too if you have a cold, dry and dark place to store them like a closet or basement. Wrapping them in newspaper helps.
Ohh I misunderstood! I thought it meant the apples were actually in the store for that long. I was like the environment is def not controlled in a grocery store with people touching them and whatnot haha.
The state of Maine is closest to the continent of Africa.
I used this fact an hour ago. We were watching a YouTube video about how states got their shape or other US geography/political history. I got to say it before the video gave the answer, so thanks.

Relative to body size, barnacles have the longest penis in the animal kingdom. The blue whale, not surprisingly, has the actual longest at around 6 feet.
These facts brought to you by taking marine biology in hs because of course someone asked this question. And if I'm wrong, because I never fact checked it, please don't correct me because these are the greatest facts I know.
More historical facts: All European monarchs are related, and many are related to Queen Victoria.
There were still wooly mammoths when the Egyptian pyramids were being built.
I love word origins. The word “salary” comes from the Latin for “salt,” because the Roman soldiers were partially paid in/so they could buy salt, as it was so important to life at the time.

I work in the drinking water industry. I have a picture of Willie Lincoln who died in the White House from Typhoid Fever most likely from contaminate drinking water so I have his picture of a reminder of the importance of clean water for everyone BUT
In the span of 9 years, three presidents died from diseases that may also have stemmed from bad water at the White House. Zachary Taylor, James Polk and despite what history class claims about long speeches, William Henry Harrison.

There are, occasionally, what are called "loon fallouts" where weather conditions cause ice to accumulate on the wings of migrating loons, and they fall out of the sky - frequently *not* into water, so they struggle and sometimes die without help.

Astrocartography is a subgenre of astrology that is supposed to be able to tell you want areas of the world you'll be happiest and most successful in based on when and where you were born.
I would like to know where to input this data for myself, please.
