I will back whoever gets the Dem nomination, there is no choice to me. I think there are many who wanted a different option than Biden vs Trump. I also believe there is a large part of this country who will always vote for a man (no matter how awful he is) over a woman and I'm sick to my stomach now.
Chatter I've heard the last few days is guessing Sen. Mark Kelly would be the VP pick. He's my senator (from AZ), and I REALLY don't want to lose him (we are a purple state) but I have to admit he's kind of a unicorn and a super strong candidate. Former astronaut/military, pro 2A (as incongruous as that seems). I think he might be a better choice than Whitmer.

I know y’all don’t know me, so you have no reason to trust me, but…I’ve been a Democratic activist for twenty years and this is actually the most hopeful I’ve felt since January 6th.
It’s gonna be a shit-ton of work, but we truly can do it!
Maybe I’m naive but I think this is going to be okay. Anyone that was going to vote Biden will still vote for Harris. With a younger candidate that is going to get more voters excited and to the polls. I know this is just anecdotal but here there are so many people that don’t want Trump again but also couldn’t muster excitement for Biden. I’m hopeful this will inject some spark. We will see.
I do hope Biden is okay and I hope he gets time with family. He deserves it.

Clinton got 3 million more votes than Trump in 2016. It’s 8 years later and we know more about what Trump is now. I think it’s doable.
I’m quoting a bit from the Wa Post. While we rally behind the new candidate, I hope the Dems can really push President Biden’s accomplishments also as evidence of this administration.
“The president will leave office with notable accomplishments, especially for a one-term president in an era of deep division. He pushed through bills on infrastructure, climate change, health care, gun control and the semiconductor industry. He pulled the U.S. out of Afghanistan, rebuilt American alliances and led a coalition to defend Ukraine against Russia”
Just before this, Speaker Johnson already announced the GOP would pursue a lawsuit to keep him on the ballot. So part of me believes they wanted Biden to stay on and therefore I can be happy they are being spited.
On the other hand, turning this over to the courts would be really scary.

I hope you are correct, but living in a red state I have no confidence in people. We may know better, but there is no collective we/us. There is a very loud and I'd say bolder continent of Theys who have gotten some shit things changed in this country since then.
I don’t usually post here so hope this is ok to ask….
How does this work now? How do we choose the new candidate? Will there be a special election/primary, or can the nomination be passed down to Kamala?
I think since he’s releasing his delegates (they are not bound to vote for him at the convention now) they can vote for whomever they want. Most likely though there will be some kind of consensus before the convention of who they want to nominate.

Clinton also had toooons of residue. She absolutely should have won, zero questions. But Kamala as part of a successful administration, even with her prosecution past (which there are mixed feelings about) has got to be miles ahead as someone folks could vote for. Particularly younger folks.
Now, racism is real I am absolutely not discounting it. But I am hopeful.

Yeah, my husband also just mentioned that to me - the large contingent of people who just hate the Clintons for some reason. She had great name recognition but not all positive!
