"GW Bush doesn't do those kinds of things anymore and prefers to just quietly chill in retirement." By not publicly endorsing a candidate, to me that feels like an implicit endorsement for the R candidate
i think the opposite is true. If anyone else had been the republican to follow him in office, he would have endorsed them. He would have provided at least a tepid endorsement of a republican potted plant. That was standard practice - publicly you stand with your team and do your disagreements behind the scenes. Not endorsing Trump speaks volumes.
Sure. But it's cowardly.
He didn't win in 2000, but was handed the presidency by the USSC. He lied to the country about WMD and plenty else. He signed the Patriot Act.
Maybe that's what's holding him back from doing the right thing, because he's worried more fingers will point at him. Maybe it's painting crappy pictures of dogs occupying all of his time. But any true patriot with integrity who is paying attention should be affirmatively condemning this orange jackass.

100% Agree. I have a deep dislike of the Bush family and what they did to this country when in power. I just think they are the close ranks type. Not closing ranks on this is a deliberate statement.
I don’t expect him to ‘do the right thing’ because he didn’t. Again and again.
If you haven't listened to the recent episode of Brene Brown's podcast with Kamala Harris, I highly recommend it. It gave me hope, but also more anxiety and fear of the election results.
Bill Clinton’s speech in support of Kamala did not win over any of the Arab votes in Michigan. Wtf was that shit? Acknowledging that that group is hesitant to vote for Harris and then he spews propaganda and says that no amount of dead Palestinians is enough payback for Oct. 7th? What the actual fuxk.
That was supposed to help us believe that Kamala will change course and curb support of Israel if she is elected? Where is the Sure, Jan gif?
This copied and pasted from IG stillwerise account is where I was at before hearing Clinton speak. I hope she and her administration would actually listen to the “fight”.
“We are not complicit in genocide for voting for Harris. We are fighting for America's women, disabled and LGBTQ+ folks, for immigrants, to save the planet, our kids education, healthcare, our democracy, not having a dictator or Project 2025 and Palestinians. Voting for Harris means we have more time to advocate for Palestinians and changes within our democracy. If we don't have rights we can't fight.”

I went and found his comments and listened to them. Without your post here, I would have heard them differently. First I would have heard him saying "there's only one president at a time" to be communicating that Kamala is not Biden wrt Israel. I probably would have heard him going for a point about how while Israelis may be rightly angry about 10/7, that anger and hurt does *not* justify much of the Israeli government's actions (the "I don't measure it that way"). And that Hamas has been using civilians as human shields and bears responsibility for that. That's based in part on how I've heard him talk about Israel and Hamas in the past.
But I absolutely see what you are saying. The context is so important. Not only the context of historical and present US support for Israel's government, but that he centered only the Israeli experience in his statements. And how, heard that way, he is placing blame ONLY with Hamas and not with Israel's government.
I am disgusted. And frustrated. It is hard to do and say what is right, sometimes. And those times are when it is MORE important to do so. And to be careful with your words and actions.
I am so sorry that you are hearing this at all, and angry that right now our past and present leaders are not doing enough.
Kamala is spending election eve in Pittsburgh. Clinton was in my (adjacent) suburban county on Tuesday and Walz has been circling through every 1-2 weeks. Trump & Musk have been through a 3-4 times in the last month. This is the first time I remember a campaign swinging by more than once, especially hitting the smaller communities
Does anyone who has been to the large outdoor rallies have info to share? This may be a stupid question, but I assume this is different than the rallies in an arena where there are capacity limitations. I can probably just get there at any time and be able to join the crowd (even if I will just be able to see a projection screen or hear a speaker?)

Not that this helps but the Pittsburgh concert (which they just moved to be from 3PM-7PM / earlier than the Philly concert) requires prior registration and is not guaranteed entrance. It is in an open air area (Point State Park for those familiar) but they are still regulating it closely. You cannot just walk up.

Thanks! It does help a little. I registered to attend but was just trying to figure out timing. I guess maybe they still section the area off so you can’t just wander up. I assume I’ll see more info in the follow-up email when it comes.

Quoting myself. Trump is going to be having a competing rally at 6 PM Monday 1.8 miles from where Kamala will be (4-7 PM). God speed to anyone who works in town in Pittsburgh

This is the situation for Milwaukee tonight (although about 5 miles apart)

I imagine it will be like any of the large ticketed events on the Parkway (like concerts). They will put up a security perimeter and you need a ticket to enter and will need to go through a metal detector. You will be able to hear and see it from outside but you won't be able to attend without a ticket.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I saw on Colbert the commercial that Julia Robert’s did for Kamala. It was so good. I hope if makes a difference with the targeted demographic. She’s always been one of my favorites, I was happy to see it.

And have you seen all the outrage from conservative political commentators? It makes the commercial even that much better.

I saw it and had the opposite reaction. So many of these women will see the response of these “leaders” and be reminded that their version of “Christian marriage” is correct and the commercials are telling them to lie to their spouses and destroy their marriages. I’ve lost a previously good friend to this. She’s not allowed to have thoughts aside from her husband, and one day I just neutralized a point he was trying to make in a Bible Study. They dropped out of the group and I think he told her she wasn’t allowed to hang out with me anymore. This is how far too many marriages work.
That aside…today, I’m feeling very cautiously optimistic. And ready to be the change I want to see if I’m wrong. I refuse to despair. There’s no time for that for someone with my privilege.
I **hate** door knocking. But I've canvassed three times now (one more on the schedule for tomorrow) and it's not bad at all. Most people don't answer the door. The ones that do are mostly polite, sometimes enthusiastic. And it's great to go to a campaign office for the drop off and pick up and be surrounded by other supporters.
If you're thinking about it, especially if you are in or can get to a swing state--DO IT. It feels good to do something so tangible.

I agree! I am the biggest introvert, kind of shy until I get to know people and LOVED canvassing! I went with H, which helped, but there were also groups locally that would pair you up with someone if you came alone. I knocked hundreds of doors in the 2018 and 2020 elections, in addition to the 2017 and 2019 local elections in my city. Unfortunately I hurt my knee this August so walking miles door knocking wasn’t feasible for me this fall so I did postcards instead. But I did miss canvassing.
I'm incredibly hopeful that we're going to win this! It was touch and go for me for a bit, but I'm suddenly really confident we've got this.
What are everyone's plans for election night?
I live in the eastern time zone so even when we do get results election night it’s super late as we’re 3 hours ahead of the west coast. I took Wednesday off because I know I won’t be able to sleep. I’ll probably stay up watching results coming in, drinking wine, and crying (tears of joy over Kamala winning obviously).
Polls are polls…but I’ve been saying I have hope! This gives me so much hope! Come on, IOWA!!
I’m ignoring all the polls, but this still made me get a little excited.
I’ve been ignoring them, too. I just don’t think they’re reliable. But Biden was down 18 in June, she was down by 4 in September, and now she’s up by 3…and no one has paid any attention to Iowa!
What surprises me the most is that the older people are leaning towards her!
My gut has been telling me for awhile that Iowa has a chance to pull this off…but I’m also scared to hope.
Two of my family members and I are going to the Harris rally tomorrow in East Lansing!!!! We signed up on Thursday and got our email invites with arrival instructions a little while ago!

Me too! I’m working the polls. Will probably get home 9:30/10pm. Will immediately change into PJs and drink the double old fashioned my husband will have waiting for me while I turn on results.

I live in Iowa and my local Dems organization is almost exclusively retired people, which blew my mind since I've been used to seeing a younger crowd in these types of groups. I love how passionate and committed they are. They've been working their absolute asses off this election and I'm so proud to be a part of their group.
