We don’t even need to win Iowa though it would be lovely but it’s a sign, a big one. Curious how Cruz and Scott will do in their seats.
I know you mean well, but this sucks to hear. Feeling like they don’t matter is part of what draws people to the other side or leads to people not voting at all.
Iowa + NC > Pennsylvania as far as electoral votes (22 vs 19)
Every vote in every state matters. We need every single one. And we need to stop making people think that only the votes in 7 states really make a difference. It disenfranchises voters whose voices matter, too.
Yes am sorry did not mean it that way. Also learned that Iowa and WI have the most shared Obama and Trump voters.

Agreed! There is also a chance of 2 Iowa house seats flipping from R to D and that would be huge!!!! We need the legislature too if we want to make lasting change, not just the presidency!! 🤞🤞🤞
And also, the higher the margin of victory for the electoral college, the less likely it is that Dump can claim fraud and try to win by contesting the election results. It all matters!!!!

Exactly! If it’s just Georgia that’s close, 🍊 will concentrate his resources there. If it’s many states that are close, especially ones they didn’t plan on like Iowa, resources will be spread to thin to get traction.
The SNL skit gave me life. Her big smile was just so amazing. It definitely boosted my spirits about the election. Of course then I went to Trader Joe’s and started tearing up while checking out so I’m an emotional mess.

I’m feeling pretty confident that Cruz is going to lose. No one likes him and no one has forgotten 2021. We will see.
I'm not as optimistic as you all, but I LOVE that so many Collin Allred commercials show the clip of Cruz at the airport leaving his state as we sat cold and in the dark.
DH thinks Cruz's team is worried because they brougnt in Abbott (gov) into his commercials late in the campaign.
I want to said it was called Saturday, late morning. I remember what unit I was assigned with which coworker when I saw it was done.
Me too. I remember going out for a champagne brunch on Saturday and people were celebrating in my red area! Possibly called late Friday, Idk, but Saturday seems right.
It was Saturday morning. I was in the park thus not at work and my neighborhood came out strong. It was a great day.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

We got a “postcard” from Cancun in the mail this week and it was signed by Ted Cruz. Clever campaigning.

I honestly don’t know how she looks so vibrant and has this level of energy at this stage of the game. I’m in awe. I mostly just folded laundry today and I’m so ready for bed.

I agree. The woman is 60! She also looks much younger, like someone in her forties. She clearly takes very good care of herself. eta: so it doesn't get twisted, I'm not speaking of attractiveness, more about health and vitality.

What really struck me was the look on Maya Rudolph, she just looked star struck and amazed that Kamala, the next president of the US, was sitting across from her. And it just really reminds you that even stars are human with emotions and can fan girl just like us. 🥰
I’m ignoring all the polls, but this still made me get a little excited.
I’ve been ignoring them, too. I just don’t think they’re reliable. But Biden was down 18 in June, she was down by 4 in September, and now she’s up by 3…and no one has paid any attention to Iowa!
What surprises me the most is that the older people are leaning towards her!
My gut has been telling me for awhile that Iowa has a chance to pull this off…but I’m also scared to hope.
I'm a page behind but:
1. My parents and aunts and uncles and gpa are all old people in Iowa and they are all PUMPED to vote for Kamala. At least a few previously voted for Trump.
2. My dad was part of the poll!!!!!!! He was so excited.
Last election was it looking pretty good that Biden won by Wednesday morning? I know when Clinton lost, we knew that night right?
Wednesday is my usual work from home day but I have something due @@@
Thats abortion related and it involves writing. It’s going to be hard to stay focused ugh.

PA was a big part of the problem since that was the first presidential race that mail in ballots were approved and election law says that cannot be counted until election day (can't remember if it's when polls open or close) so it's going to take days again to count them
I am still a page behind, but can confirm. We were walking with my parents who had come up for the weekend, and all the sudden all the people on the path were shouting to each other that it was called for Biden. This unlocked a memory.

Can we also all agree that six months or less campaigns are the way to go? She has done a really incredible job with her campaign and I think people will study how she and her team approached this. Really remarkable on so many levels and I think the intensity of a shorter campaign really just works and generates so much enthusiasm.
For those who are wondering when 2020 election was called…I still have the screenshot of the alert from Fox news(I installed the app just so I could get an alert that Biden won from them). It was 11:43 am on Saturday Nov 7.

I want nothing more than 12 or 10 or whatever week campaigns for every race ever from now on.

I had the same thoughts! Even though you know Maya was aware she'd be sitting across from the table from Kamala, the emotions were very genuine. It was a powerful moment, even though it was only SNL.

Our elections seasons in Canada are a minimum of 36 days and a maximum of 50 days. Obviously there are differences in the government structures, but not so much that the US couldn't learn a thing or two.
The US still needs to primary candidates to narrow it down to the top for each party, but that should be a max of 2-3 months (April/May/June?) and every state votes on the same day (with advanced voting/absentee options of course). None of this long ass season of primaries. Then run the campaigns for a few months and vote again in October.

Barely 60, but she's 60. She and Tim Walz are the same age. About seven months apart. His birthday is the first week of April. I know this because he is exactly one week younger than I am. She and Tim are the same age. She and I are the same age (well, she's about six or seven months younger than I am.) She is a bundle of put-together energy and effervescence; I'm a falling apart mess. (I say this two days after my second oral surgery in two months, and with my foot in a plastic boot because I apparently broke it back in June but the break was missed in the search for other medical issues and possible causes.)
But then, she only litigated criminals and legislated stuff and Vice Presidented for four years. He taught high schoolers. THAT would age anyone. lol.
Vice President Harris will hold her watch party at Howard University in D.C., her alma mater. Former President Trump will hold an election night event at Mar-a-Lago after voting in Palm Beach earlier in the day. Harris has four events on her schedule in Pennsylvania today, making a last-minute play in the most likely Electoral College tipping point.
She'll hold early events in Scranton and Allentown before attending star-studded rallies in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia that are expected to include Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey.
Does anyone who has been to the large outdoor rallies have info to share? This may be a stupid question, but I assume this is different than the rallies in an arena where there are capacity limitations. I can probably just get there at any time and be able to join the crowd (even if I will just be able to see a projection screen or hear a speaker?)
I imagine it will be like any of the large ticketed events on the Parkway (like concerts). They will put up a security perimeter and you need a ticket to enter and will need to go through a metal detector. You will be able to hear and see it from outside but you won't be able to attend without a ticket.
Thanks! Not sure why I didn't think of the parkway concerts - that makes total sense. I got the "more details" email and think I should be fine with timing - it sounds like it is starting a little later than I originally thought.

I know what you mean but I remember that by Wednesday morning, it was just a waiting game but we knew what the outcome would be. I recall feeling incredibly sure on Wednesday.

I honestly didn’t think I would be texting tonight; I thought I was just getting trained, but there are many of us just sitting in the Zoom waiting for responses to the texts we sent. It’s so nice to see so many people taking action. It’s super easy, so if you’re able to sign up with an org for tomorrow, I encourage it.
I hope after she wraps up all of her rallies in the swing states today, she is able to get some sleep.
She has to be fucking exhausted.
I don’t know how they still have a voice after all the rallies and campaigning. The first true day off will feel glorious, I bet. She and everyone involved deserve it.
