For those in WA (and other mail-in-states) the Dem party asked for volunteers to knock on doors tomorrow to tell people who haven't yet turned in their ballots to turn them in to a BALLOT DROP BOX and not a mailbox, to guarantee they will be counted. Dropping in a mailbox won't guarantee a 5:00 November 5 postmark, which means the ballot will not be counted. (this is how I'm spending my Tuesday afternoon, tyvm.)
So IOW, if you're *mailing* your ballot tomorrow (in any state) drop it off directly at the post office IN THE MORNING so that it will be picked up and delivered to processing in time to get time/date stamped and counted. Don't trust that it will be timely if you're dropping it in your mailbox for the postal carrier or a blue box for an afternoon pickup (in the event the carrier gets to the post office or distribution center after 5:00 p.m.)
I am text banking right now and we sent out 100,000 texts in 5 minutes. Wild how this works.
As a voter in a swing state, I hate all of you texters!!! I get at least 10 -15 a day. All hours of the day/night. Friday I got one at 1:44 AM (screw you!). My dh got one at 3:30 AM. I also hate that they are stalking my vote, my address and my polling place. And one more complaint - Kamala has asked for money every time. She has never asked for my vote in texts. Trump has only asked for my vote. Interesting strategy I thought.

Dixville Notch, NH lis the first place to complete voting. They do it at midnight. In 2020 all 6 votes went to Biden. This year they were split 3 and 3. wtf Dixville?

I read that 4 are registered gop, and 2 no party. So she won over a gop voter. Maybe a good sign?
Yeah but I'm still worried about the fact that in 2020 they all went to Biden, but in 2024 decided they liked Trump again. Like...whut?
It was different voters last time. It used to be 5 Independents and 1 Republican and this time it was 4 Republicans and 2 Independents. All 6 of them voted for Haley in the primary. So this is actually good. (3 of the 6 voters were new to the area.)

Also, this is what the Republican who broke for her said:
“The 75-year-old Otten, who said he has been “a Republican ever since I was seven years old,” told CNN before Tuesday’s vote that he would cast his ballot for Harris.
“Nowhere in the Pledge of Allegiance does it say anything about pledging your allegiance to a person,” Otten said. “And I think at the end of the day, Trump has made it clear that you need to pledge allegiance to him, and he alone can fix this, and that is as anti-democratic as I can understand.”

Ooooh ok-- good. I (wrongly) assumed a place with 6 people doesn't see much turnover. LOL

In 2020, they almost lost the right to have their own election, but Otten (quoted above) moved in specifically so they could keep it.
The population has significantly declined over the years. My thinking is that people leave (because, omg, a town with six people sounds awful) and then others move in to keep the midnight voting alive.

Definitely that totally happened.
We texted at 5 pm (Central) last night and stayed on for an hour, checking responses. We were specifically told not to reply to anything received in response after 8 or 9 Eastern.
Also, I got a hearty laugh out of the idea that TFG isn’t asking for money. Dude is selling fake gold watches and sneakers and cannot hold rallies in many venues across the country because he hasn’t paid his bills. 🤪
I saw on Colbert the commercial that Julia Robert’s did for Kamala. It was so good. I hope if makes a difference with the targeted demographic. She’s always been one of my favorites, I was happy to see it.
And have you seen all the outrage from conservative political commentators? It makes the commercial even that much better.
I genuinely believe seeing that commercial was the first time it dawned on them that perhaps their wives might actually not vote how they've told them to vote.

I’m registered independent. I’ve gotten one message from Trump months ago asking for my vote. I’ve gotten a TON from Kamala text banks asking for money (those have mostly passed weeks ago) or telling me to vote for her to keep Trump out of office. I get no opt out option most of the time, averaging maybe 2-3 per day.
I voted already, I would like a way to be removed from the list. If someone knocked on my door, either party, I’d be annoyed. I live in CA, we already know which way my state will vote, regardless of how I vote.
Politics makes me sad. I really dislike the name calling and mud slinging. Tell me to vote for you because you’re amazing and how you’ll continue to be amazing, not because you’re not the other guy.
And I wish that people would stop with hoping the other candidate dies, regardless of how it’s intended.

I hate when people say they hate politics.
Such privilege and ignorance.
ETA - I get being tired of the vitriol (although let’s be clear about which candidate is spewing hatred here), but politics are about so much more than that. When someone says this, I generally think they don’t stand to lose anything and feel comfortable sitting back and seeing how things play out because they don’t care how loss of human rights affects others.
So my work phone that I inherited from the last person in this position gets SO MANY political texts from across the spectrum. The most aggressive one was from Ted Nugent with Hunter Nation stating, "Our records indicate that you might NOT have voted in the last election...."*
So, I believe that there are political texts are are creepy and aggressive out there. There's a bunch of posts on Threads that the Dem campaign that sent out postcards saying, "Your vote is private but voting records are not" came across as threatening.
*We have a ballot issue in CO regarding hunting the big game cats, but in looking at the website it's just aimed at getting hunters to vote? I'm not going to dig harder, but I'm 100% it's Trumpy since it's Ted Nugent.
I ignore the messages or mute them if they are from the same number? I also love the people who are door-knocking for Democrats. I'm happy to offer some water and mutual commiseration; they are on their way soon enough. They also have information and endorsements for down-ballot measures which are pretty important.
Seems to me like a small price to pay for the huge amount of ground game we need to win?
Also, we can't be mad at people door-knocking in blue states and then complain that no one cares about us when they don't.

If you’re referring to me, I didn’t say I hate politics. I said the state of politics makes me sad.
I have an Android and started using google messages for a couple of reasons. One unexpected benefit is that they automatically filter out texts that look like spam. So, I no longer see political texts.

I appreciate the clarification. Your comment is what caused my response, but I’m not just talking about you.
Politics and ground game - whether it’s rallies or texting or door knocking - are literally why women can vote, why Black people can eat in the same restaurants and go to the same schools as white people, why people in the LGBTQIA+ community can get married and have kids, why people with preexisting conditions have healthcare and so much more.
It’s important work and it’s exhausting and I totally get being tired of texts and wishing there was more reaching across the aisle. But the glory days of politics was an illusion. People were disenfranchised and didn’t have a voice and as more people gained equal rights, the more angry people on one side of the aisle got.
Fighting for equal rights should be something EVERYONE does. That should be a unifier. That it’s not is not “the state of politics,” it’s one side being pissed that they can’t make all the decisions for the rest of the population anymore.
I honestly think this is the year of the women. Caitlin Clark is a sports celebrity, the WNBA had record turnout at games, they announced an all female baseball league, the Olympics had 50% women athletes for the first time ever, US women outperformed men at the Olympics, Mexico elected their first female president. So much good is happening for women - Harris is going to win!

I saw a commercial just the other day about this and thought wtf. It was not clearly partisan so I have no idea what side it came from, and I was distracted doing something else at the time, but as soon as I heard that my eyebrows raised and I looked over like actually?
Replying STOP should opt you out regardless of whether the text says so at the bottom.
And the likely reasons you all get plenty of Harris texts and few if any Trump ones are: 1. Harris has a better ground game, 2. Your number is associated/modeled/anticipated to not be a 45 supporter, and 3. Scammers are taking advantage of the known good Harris ground game to send scam texts. Legitimate campaign texts should not arrive outside of normal waking hours, barring mistakes from text bankers.
So it's a very much yeah right from me that 45 is not asking for money and texting in a more disciplined way, and Harris is a money hungry 3am texter.

I only just recently learned this wasn't standard. Friends (who all have iPhones) were talking about all the political texts and I said "don't they just go to your spam?".
FWIW I do get quite a few texts from the Harris campaign and I am in Seattle (so nowhere near a swing state). Probably 3-4 per day? Almost all are filtered to the "Spam and Blocked" folder, and none have come through in the middle of the night.

This was one of the suggested messages with Postcards to Swing States. It was listed as the most effective message based on their studies, but I used one of the other two messages they suggested because I didn’t like the way that one came across.
None of their messages pushed any particular candidate - federal or state, but I hope they take the feedback on the ick factor of that particular messaging.

Unfortunately, you are wrong. I have three texts that I haven't deleted for some reason. They are from Kamala Harris with a link to actblue to donate. They ask for $40, $47 and $5-$50. I have the text that arrived at 1:44 am asking for $47. I get a pretty equal amount of texts from both sides despite being a registered d.
