So it's a very much yeah right from me that 45 is not asking for money and texting in a more disciplined way, and Harris is a money hungry 3am texter.
H somehow got on TFG lists (no idea how, he's registered dem and it isn't a new # for him) and absolutely has gotten an insane amount of texts asking for $.
Replying STOP should opt you out regardless of whether the text says so at the bottom.
And the likely reasons you all get plenty of Harris texts and few if any Trump ones are: 1. Harris has a better ground game, 2. Your number is associated/modeled/anticipated to not be a 45 supporter, and 3. Scammers are taking advantage of the known good Harris ground game to send scam texts. Legitimate campaign texts should not arrive outside of normal waking hours, barring mistakes from text bankers.

This is so optimistic, lol! So far that hasn't worked on the work phone (iphone). I've started reporting as junk and blocking, and that's working.

I mean, that's what legitimate organizations should do. But it may not go into effect right away 🤷🏻♀️

Unfortunately, you are wrong. I have three texts that I haven't deleted for some reason. They are from Kamala Harris with a link to actblue to donate. They ask for $40, $47 and $5-$50. I have the text that arrived at 1:44 am asking for $47. I get a pretty equal amount of texts from both sides despite being a registered d.
Okay. How does that show that the Trump campaign is not sending repeat requests for money?

I think there is also a distinction between PACs and volunteers texting with orgs like SURJ, Mobilize, and Rise. We were told to unsubscribe people who asked and you can click on a button to do that. We were also told not to engage with people who expressed violent or hateful rhetoric. (One volunteer had someone tell her to kill herself on the textbank I was on last night.)
There are also a lot of scammy PACs out there, in addition to legitimate ones. Those are predatory and problematic and it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I generally tolerate the ones from ActBlue and Emily’s List because the money goes where it should with these, but the other ones I report as Junk.
cville, well I have plenty of Trump texts too. Here is one " President trump wants to know if you voted early yet?" No ask for $. Another says "vote early for Trump" no ask for money. I could screen shot and send them to you since you don't believe me. Not sure why. I like to analyze things so I do read them all even if I don't agree with the candidate. That is why I made a mental note of the money ask. I thought it was icky.
orval my point is that you cannot extrapolate form your personal experience to the tactics of the 45 campaign as a whole. Even if you aren't receiving them, money grubber repeat texts from his campaign and associated PACs exist.
If it makes you feel icky to be asked for donations, then it does. If opting out didn't work for you, than it didn't.
Your first post had a message of Kamala is a texting grifter and 45 just wants to encourage people to participate in the democratic process. To which I will always say ha ha yeah right no way that happened or is true.

She's expressing what she saw in regards to the texts that she received. It's not scientific, and it's not representative, but it was expressed as an example of what she saw. It's purely anecdotal. Which is fine. She's not saying anything bad about the D campaign or Harris.

I think part of the problem is that all of these PACs and volunteer groups etc. share text lists, so once you're on one you have to unsubscribe 100 times. And what's worse, as soon as you donate, even if you check all the boxes to NOT receive emails and texts they start showing up again. It's too much.
I'm obviously having some tense big feelings today and maybe responding to things in an outsized way. Cville out. See you on the other side of whatever the hell happens.

I think you're fine, and it's understandable. For me, keeping in mind that we're all on the same side here helps me moderate my own responses. That's not to say I'll fly off the handle later over something.
So my work phone that I inherited from the last person in this position gets SO MANY political texts from across the spectrum. The most aggressive one was from Ted Nugent with Hunter Nation stating, "Our records indicate that you might NOT have voted in the last election...."*
So, I believe that there are political texts are are creepy and aggressive out there. There's a bunch of posts on Threads that the Dem campaign that sent out postcards saying, "Your vote is private but voting records are not" came across as threatening.
*We have a ballot issue in CO regarding hunting the big game cats, but in looking at the website it's just aimed at getting hunters to vote? I'm not going to dig harder, but I'm 100% it's Trumpy since it's Ted Nugent.
I wrote postcards and I specifically did not use that blurb (they gave us a choice of 3) for that very reason. It felt vaguely threatening and I did not want any of the people I wrote to, to feel that way about my card/message.
I saw a commercial just the other day about this and thought wtf. It was not clearly partisan so I have no idea what side it came from, and I was distracted doing something else at the time, but as soon as I heard that my eyebrows raised and I looked over like actually?
This was one of the suggested messages with Postcards to Swing States. It was listed as the most effective message based on their studies, but I used one of the other two messages they suggested because I didn’t like the way that one came across.
None of their messages pushed any particular candidate - federal or state, but I hope they take the feedback on the ick factor of that particular messaging.
Interesting. I'm in New York, so not a swing state. We do have some local elections that are tight and could flip a couple of house seats, so maybe that was why.
