It’s massive net losses. I was laid off my part-time job due to lack of work. I was supposed to transition to full time, had been working full time hours for the past few months, had stopped consulting for that job and I’m the primary breadwinner so it threw a wrench in my plans.
Trying to focus on the positives, but it’s difficult. My unemployment was approved for the max amount (only 1/5 of my income which doesn’t even cover housing costs) and I was able to pick up a few hours of consulting work a week. DH’s work had been slow for months prior to this, but he’s been really busy this month and able to pick up extra shifts since I can handle the kids’ schedules. He’s looking for another job, and hopefully something where he could work both to fill in the gaps for the slow times. People are hiring, I’m talking to a few recruiters, I had some phone interviews and I have a 2nd interview next week. There’s an amazing federal position DH applied for (rare in his field) but that process is slow.
There’s an inheritance for DH we were meaning to follow up on but we got an email from a relative saying they noticed $4k on the state treasury site for him from a life insurance policy. We aren’t 💯 sure if it’s the money he was expecting, so we need to find the paperwork. The address they had was from the apartment we lived in right before we were married, which is why I think it might be something else. So check your treasury sites for every state you and your family members have a connection to!
More losses for the month: PSEG $500 Water bill $300 Payment for sons trip next summer due next $1000 Next installment of daughters soccer pyament due next week $480
ugh.. need some wins.. and im still trying to find something i can do nights and weekends w no luck
chpmnk1015 Does it have to be remote? Lots of stuff you can do in person--retail, restaurant, customer service, etc.
Nope.. been looking for maybe some holiday stuff.. Tough because a lot of places by me want like 5 PM.. but realistically w my real job i cant be anywhere until 6:30. Hoping as some holiday stuff becomes available i can find some that can work with me.. i can work all sunday pretty much and sat nights, fri nights.. its the weeknights that are hard w runnings around the kids..
Well, I have a win! My husband who has been out of work for 8 months with an injury… got a part time consulting job! This is exactly what I wanted for him. He wanted a full time job but I know that would have been too much for him. He’s starting low hours-wise, like 5 hours/wk, and will increase as more work comes in. Their consultants work between 5 and 50 hours/wk, so this could transition to full time once he’s ready. I’d like to see him at 20 hours. Enough to loosen up our budget a little and start replenishing the efund, but not enough that he will be a cranky overworked monster. Honestly we’re fortunate that he could work part time forever and I’m not against the idea if it means we keep a happy marriage.
