I'm not watching, but I'm glad he's fired up. Apparently one of the narratives the Rs are pushing is that Shapiro wasn't picked because he's pro-Israel and not progressive enough (see thehill.com for many of these articles). Having him enthusiastic about the Harris/Walz ticket crushes that narrative.
I think in the continuing vein of "let's be fun, hopeful, optimistic, excited, action-oriented, looking towards the future", then Walz was the right pick. He seems to bring good energy to the ticket & that's what's really going to get people engaged, excited, and to the polls. When Trump is all doom & gloom, scapegoating everything & everybody, predicting the end of the world, people really want something that they can feel good about voting FOR not just against Trump.
Governor Tim Walz - Uniting One Minnesota | We’re All on the Map From Esri July 15th, 2024
Governor Tim Walz is Minnesota’s 41st Governor; a former high school geography teacher; served in the US Congress and the Army National Guard; and is a successful servant leader. With a passion and vision to make Minnesota the best place to live, work and raise a family. With a goal and plan of sustainable development and resiliency and a focus on education, children and families, hear how the Governor is a strong advocate for the geographic approach.
I'm watching on delay. He was the right choice. I love that Shapiro was right there getting everyone fired up. I think he can do as much (or more) good in this position as if he was the VP candidate.
It feels SO GOOD to see people smiling. He looks so humbled and genuinely excited and having the time of his life up on that stage.
Is anyone watching the Kamala rally in Philly? Wow Shapiro is FIRE!!! with his speech.
I kinda get why he wasn’t picked now. He’s great but too much. I don’t think they have similar vibes if that makes sense.
They need him to speak at the convention.
I was there (and it was amazing). The Philly crowd LOVES Shapiro -- he's local to us and he fixed the bridge. At one point, he had the crowd chanting "we get shit done". I'm not upset that she didn't pick him.
Walz was freaking great. Good speaker, calm and orderly when talking about his business, rallied the crowd over Trump and Vance (his crack about the couch was funny). He even teared up a bit talking about Kamala. She was fire. It was really fun.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I wonder if part of his motivation is to counter the narrative coming from Fetterman’s camp from over the weekend. "Sources" say he contacted Harris's campaign to caution against Shapiro because he would put his own self interets first.
I also skimmed an article- I think from the Hill- saying Fetterman’s concerns were taken seriously by the campaign essentially torpedoing his chance at VP. Will link when i find it again.
Being a PA resident I didn't realize there was animosity since the two but it apparently goes back a few years to a disagreement while Fetterman was Lt Gov and Shapiro was AG.
I got the best texts and links from friends when the news broke that Gov. Tim Walz was the pick for VP. People were on fire with excitement. Then my dad called as I was pulling into the driveway and said “Go put on CNN, Harris is going to announcing it right now”.
I watched the whole thing in surround sound - Harris’ speech and Walz. It was unbelievable !! I was SO HAPPY to be totally excited about a D ticket.
